Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Any Dancers??

Any Dancers??

Ok. so i know this is kinda random, but are there any dancers in the chatterbox? Im just wondering because I know that Nutcracker is coming up and... well.... Anyways, if you are a dancer, could you say, like, how many years you've been dancing, and what kind of dance, and any performances coming up, and anything, really. i'll start.

I have been dancing for 9 years, and I do classical ballet and modern. I like both equally. I go on pointe officially next year, and I cant wait. This will be my sixth year dancing in the Nutcracker, and this year I have a solo. Yay!!! I never stop dancing, and three of my dance friends and I gave a performance at a school recently.

YES! I love dancing! I’ve been dancing for about ten years, I think. I started when I was three and I’ve been going ever since except for one year I took off right after we moved. I do classical ballet and a little contemporary/jazz/lyrical thrown in here and there. I also do pointe, which is really fun. That’s so cool that you’ll get to do it next year! It’s also so cool that you’ll be in the Nutcracker! I’ve always wanted to be, but I’ve never had the chance. I’m always dancing, too. Usually without realizing it. I’ll be in the kitchen or living room or anywhere and start doing random ballet moves or practicing a combination. Multiple times my brother has given me weird looks and asked me what I’m doing XD

So, does anyone have a favorite dance step/move, or just one you’re good at/like doing? I like coupé jetes a lot, for some reason, and my teacher has told me I’m really good at them.

I first went to ballet classes when I was four, I think. I continued dancing until I was about seven, and then I stopped for a bit, and just kept dancing here and there after that. I'm not actively dancing, but I do love it. My classmate's mom used to be a prima ballerina-wow!-and she starting teaching a ballet class when I was around nine. She was able to teach on Wednesday after school in the cafeteria. It was awesome to have this unoffical dance class with around 25-30 members participating, ages 5 to 9. I was one of three nine-year-olds, and I loved it. We performed a scene from Cinderella, and we also learned that one scene in The Nutcracker where the prince was explaining to the Sugar Plum Fairy what had happened with him and (is it Clara of Marie? I'll say Clara, I guess) Clara. Once, I was watching a production of The Nutcracker on my Kindle, I started pantomiming. I was miming "mouse"(putting yourfingers below your chin and wiggling them) when my brother asked me what I was doing and if I was OK. It was so funny!

I do tap dance! I used to also do ballet and jazz, but I stopped doing jazz and decided that ballet was boring when I was about 7 or 8. (I really wish I had stuck with it now.) I haven't been in a play that involved dancing since I was 8 and I did Annie at my local Arts Center, but my dance school has a dance showcase every spring where all of the dance classes do different choreographed performances.

Well I'm not sure if this is what you are asking, but I do contra dance! I don't really have time to explain what it is, but it is a lot like square dancing. Has anyone else done anything like it?

Wow!! I dont know why this makes me so happy!! I love poteburres , and also this thing where you go passe-develope-grandjete-arabesque-and land in pirouette. It's actually quite simple. :)

Ooh, I love pas de bourrees too! (I think that’s how you spell it? I only know because I googled it.) The passé-develope thing sounds hard, but I bet it’s fun. My pirouettes are pretty terrible, though. I usually can’t even land a decent double. :/

I wish I could dance!  I did ballet for a couple of years when I was younger, but by now I've lost all flexibility and strength.  I don't think any studios in my area teach beginners my age, but it's fun to dream.  I admire the endurance you all have!

I think there are studios that teach even adult beginners. Ask some teachers or at someplace like the Y.

Ooh, I dance! I do classical ballet with a bit of lyrical/modern thrown in there. I've been on pointe for almost 2 years now (I think), which is really fun. I have a performance coming up in February and I'm pretty excited about it! I love Italian fouettes, as well as firebirds (the jumps) and tour jetes. I like jump-y stuff.

Ima dancer! I've been dancing for 11 years, started when I was three, had to take a few brakes cause well, I broke myself. I used to do ballet and modern and such but then I moved and now Im on a Pom team (like dance-basied cheer). Don't recomend it, stick to ballet!

I've been in the Nutcracker a lot (we had to if we were on the Competitive team) though I never got any big roles cause I managed to brake myself the few years that I was the right age and skill for it. Also, I'm not allowed on pointe (thanks parents) even though its been like, my goal since I was 3. But oh well, guess there's always life after high school.
