Random Thoughts/Things?

Random Thoughts/Things?

I wasn’t really sure what to call this thread, but I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for awhile now. Basically, anyone can post anything here. Any random thought you have, any random thing that happens to you, any random question that pops into your mind. Have fun, and don’t be afraid to be random.

if I had a nickel for every time I tripped and hurt myself in Sharks And Minnows yesterday, I'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot but it's wierd that it happened twice

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people say "he or she" rather than "they." For one thing, it sounds stupid, and for another, while it attempts to be more inclusive than just "he," I feel it excludes people who don't identify with she/her pronouns or he/him pronouns, and is outdated. A good number of the people who do that are adults, though, some of whom are not always used to or even aware of the idea that you don't have to be a he or a she, so I guess I have to give them the benefit of the doubt. But even then, I'm still upset that more people aren't aware of that! Idk, it just frustrates me, but it doesn't even really affect me because I am a she, so maybe I shouldn't be getting offended on behalf of others. What do you all think?

I definitely feel the same, especially as someone who does not identify on either side of the binary. Additionally, a lot of legal (and apparently very carefully worded) documents also use "he or she"/"his or her" language, too; it's so thoroughly ingrained, it can be hard to deviate from that kind of precedent.

YES but I'll also add on: I hate it when people say he/she/they, and especially when they refer to nonbinary people as "theys" or such. Because he, she, and they aren't the only pronouns, and there's no rule that nonbinary people have to use they/them. Plenty use he, or she, or neopronouns like xe/xir or gem/gems, or no pronouns whatsoever.

Also, thank you for getting offended on the behalf of others! Especially because a lot of the time, the people who it effects the most have the hardest time speaking up. I wish the world at large was more like you, and everyone on the CB :D

Actually I have a non-binary cousin who doesn’t use they/them pronouns but rather he uses he/him and she/her pronouns interchangeably. For example, “she filled out the application while he was waiting for the first reply” would be acceptable pronouns in her case.

Same! Not only is it excluding, it just sounds bad. "They" is one single word. "He/she" or "he or she" is so clunky, and not at all the way people talk in real life. "They" is so much easier to use and more concise.

I agree with Blackfooted Bobcat, it's great to get offended on the behalf of others! As Benjamin Franklin once said, "Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are." (I think I'm becoming Mrs. Who and starting to talk via obscure quotes...I also randomly brought up a lengthy Pride and Prejudice quote today that I somehow had memorized without noticing it)
