Another debate: hmm... no politics, no religions, ahh yes. Here's one! Ahem. Big dogs. No, not big, HUGE dogs! Pittbulls, Grey Hounds, are they dangerous?

This isn't about big dogs, but it is about dangerous dogs - well, dangerous to ducks, anyway. A couple years ago, a black-and-white hound stuck its head under the gate to the duckyard and bit off the head of one of my ducks.Cry Eversince then I've hated spotted hounds.

Don't really know one way or the other, but dogs are, to me... enh... I just never really liked them that much. I understand why people do, though. :)

Same, Mary. :) I don't have anything against dogs, they're just not my favorite thing.

Some are nice, of course, I'm just not that into them.

I thought I was the only one! :) I hate when I'm with other girls and they're all talking about dogs, because I mean I think lab puppies are cute, but besides that I'm clueless on the subject. I've always been sort of timid around them. I'm not afraid of dogs, but I guess since we've never owned one, I don't really know what do do with them besides pet them! :)

You can do tons of stuff with dogs!  My aunt has two German shepherds and she taught one of them to be a Search and Rescue dog, and my friend taught her dog tons of tricks.

I think it all depends on the individual dog, some big dogs are calm and friendly. We have Chihuahuas and they are just the same as large dog breeds in terms different temperament/personality. most of them are Very stand offish, barky at people, but a few run up to little children in park and just love everybody!   Smile

I like big dogs much better.  Little dogs tend to be more mean.  They think they must defend themselves because of their size.  I even got attacked my a weener dog, (Daschund, i think??  No idea how to spell either...) and i was just walking up to my friends front door and it attacked me!!!  My brother also got bit on the FACE  less than a centimeter away from his eye, no joke, by a little stupid dog.  I just hate them!!!!

Now, I have a very large dog, she weighs 116 pounds.  That's a little too big, but it's what I'm stuck with.  But she doesn't feel like she has to defend herself as much.  Big dogs just tend to be more nice.     Not saying that goes with all dogs, but from experiences and such, I believe I have some truth to what I'm saying.

(Don't I sound old fashioned?  I do that when I write!  It's weird!)

Oh, but pitbulls, don't get me started.  They are very dangerous!!!  They're known to KILL people.

Pittbulls are only dangerous if they aren't trained and handled by a very strong, firm person.  I've met nice pittbulls, and I've met pittbulls that weren't so nice.  They are only mean because that is what they were bred to do.  They were bred to fight with other animals in pits, hence the name, pittbull.

I sound like a know-it-all.  Sorry.  Undecided

Lauren is right. Some pittbulls have killed people, but some are really nice! It all depends on who their handler is!

As for big dogs in general, lots of them are fine! I have a German Shephard. She's huge, but really nice! She's never bitten me even once!

Of course some of them are dangerous. You shouldn't just go up to any random big dog you meet on the street and start petting them. However, it's the same way with people, the way you shouldn't talk to strangers. Some are nice, and others aren't. There are some you can trust, and some you can't. Some are dangerous, and others are fine. It's extremely steriotypical to just saythat all big dogs or all pittbulls are dangerous/mean. Their personalities are varied. It's as simple as that.

Don't worry, Lauren, you don't sound like a know-it-all.  I agree.  Dogs are dangerous for a reason, whether it be an ignorant handler or a bad experience as a puppy.

Dogfighting is cruel. I'm glad it is illegal. I also think racing dogs (greyhounds and stuff) should be better treated. If a dog has an injury, especially a leg injury, on the race track, they just kill it (most of the time, there have been animal shelters that rescue them) because it can't run anymore.
