Chatterboxer Bible Group!

~~~~~~
HELLO PEOPLE! I do believe this is the first time a thread has been made to talk about the Bible, so I don't know how it'll be taken. But, hopefully, people will post on it.
Here's a place where we can discuss some favorite Bible stories, bits of scripture and devotionals.
Feel free to post your favorite relevant songs and reply to people's posts.
Once a week on Sunday someone can post a favorite piece of the Bible as the "Verse of the Week". To avoid having too many people sharing the Verse of the Week, please name yourself "Verse of the Week" so that we may know if it's already been posted!
~~~~~~~~~

General Rules:

1. Be kind and courteous.

2. Please don't try to debate someone here.

3. Uh... that's it. If there is anything I missed, please feel free to point it out!

~~~~~~~~~
And now, the Verse of the Week, from Philipians 4:6.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
YES!! I've been waiting for a thread like this since I came here! I was kicked out of my old online school, because, well, I believed in this. It didn't end well.
Anyway, this is SO COOL!!!
@Emekittencon Kitten
You were kicked out of your school just for believing in God?! That's ridiculous! I'm glad you get to enjoy this, though.
"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor."
Ecclesiastes 4:9
~~~~~~~~

Also, has anyone taken a spiritual gifts test? I just took one and here's what I got:

1. Service/Helps

2. Mercy, Giving, Hospitality (all three were tied with 22 points each...)

3. Exhortation

~~~~~~
If anyone else has taken one, I would love to hear what you got! If you don't feel like sharing that's fine, too.
I don't think that's what Emmekittencon means by because of "this." Maybe she will explain further.
Hi, I'm Jewish not Christian but the Bible is technically conected to three main religions, Judism, Christianity, and Islam. In the same order the parts of the Bible read is Old Tesment, New Tesment, and the Quaran. In Judism after your Bat/Bar Mitzvah you are complied to 613 mitzvot which you need to do at a certian time each day. I do not know much about any religion other then Judism, but so I can only answer questions about Judism.
What are your favorite bible stories?
Oh cool!
I'm actually a Messianic Jew, so I read both the Old Testament and the New Testament. The main difference between you and I is that I believe the Messiah came.
So, my favorite Bible story... I don't want to pick between any of them, but Moshe's stories are definitly my favorite.
So... What's your favorite holiday? Mine's either Purim, Hanukkah, or Sukkot.
Oh, I'm Jewish too! Should we make a separate thread to talk about Judaism so we don't completely take over this one?
I'm a Reform Jew, so we (my family; I can't speak for anyone else) celebrate many of the holidays and go to services occasionally but we don't keep kosher or rest on Shabbat or anything.
I haven't read or heard about most of the Torah, so I don't have much context for favorite bible stories, but I always liked the story about how Isaac's name means 'laughter' because Sarah laughed when the angels (I think?) told her she was going to have a baby, even though she was really old!
Hey Kitten, I am a Christian as you may know but my dad's grandmother was an atheist Jew so she was like ethnically Jewish but did not believe. Therefore my family kinda celebrates a few Jewish holidays and I'm always wanting to celebrate more.
Also FYI Sarah was in the tent and heard Abraham and God talking, I just checked.
That's really cool! I think there's a difference between being an atheist Jew and an ethnic but non-practicing Jew, though I obviously don't know the exact details of your grandmother's beliefs.
Okay, I'm back with another question! What's the difference between pastor, minister, priest, reverend, etc? Are they used by different branches of Christianity, or are some of them more general and others more specific, or both? (And did I miss any other common titles?)
My favorite bible story is probably the the story of Cain and Able, and my favorite holiday is Passover.
Question: What is a Nuns job?
@Kitten
Hmm... I'm not sure about all the different levels of jobs you're speaking about... but I'll try and answer what I know!
~~~~

At my church we have pastors and they're in charge of giving the sermons and doing baptisms. A pastor is the leader of the church, I believe. They also have a hand in organizing the church events (I think... I'm just going off my church, so it might be different for others).

~~~~~
.... And that's about as much as I know. I think a Catholic church has priests that give the sermons... but I could be mistaken.
~~~~

I wish I could help answer more of your questions, but I've never really thought about the different roles in a church before.
