MATH THREAD!

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

MATH THREAD!

MATH THREAD!

Here is a thread to talk about MATH! Sorry, we were just learning factorials.

So you can talk about why you like/dislike math, your favorite numbers, your favorite parts of math, what your doing in math class, what you struggle with and ecxel at, WHATEVER!

In math class we are doing a unit on Spot It! So that's fun.

*ahem* earlier today I used things I've figured out in the past to figure out what combinations of the ten's digit and one's digit are possibilities for perfect squares! I narrowed it down to 22. Of course, ther could be less that I didn't manage to narrow down, but here's what I got:

-The one's digit must be a 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, or 9.

-If the one's digit is a 0, the ten's digit must also be a 0.

-If the one's digit is a 5, the ten's digit must be a 2.

-if the one's digit is a 1, 9, or 4, the ten's digit must be even.

-if the one's digit is 6, the ten's digit must be odd.

I don't really like school math but can imagine myself teaching it.

Also, we learned how to make a deck of Spot It!

I feel like a genius.

I'm making Spot It!: Cauliflower Edition.

Also, @Em, they couldn't choose the number -- mathemeticians discover math, they don't invent it.

Okay, so I really like Algebra! I'm pretty good at algebraic equations. Math with letters is my thing!

Have you guys ever learned about non-euclidian geometry? We learned about it just a tiny bit but and it kind of flips everything you know about geometry on its head.

So pretty much in normal geometry class you learn euclidean geometry, and with that type of geometry, everything is on a flat plane. One of the things that Euclid said about it was that if you have l_l that sort of shape where ther is one line with two perpendicular lines going up from it, those two lines with never intercept.

But with  non-euclidian geometry, the plane that everything is on isn't flat. So there are types like spherical and hyperbolic.

And with spherical geometry, the plane is a sphere. But the crazy thing with that is if on a sphere you had a line with two perpendicular lines coming up from it, those two lines would intercept. Think about the equator of the earth and there are two lines coming perpendicularly up from it, both of those lines will go to the north pole where they'll intercept.

Here's a quick sketch of it

I actually really detest math, even though I'm one of the people with the highest scores. i got into algebra I [for 6th] and I'm in 5th.

I'm currently trying to improve geometry and learn calculus [NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE!]

Idk I just really detest math, but I want to prove myself.

I like math fine. There was a math contest in our school field day.

I have my math final today. I mean, I like the idea of final exams, but in practice? Naaaahhhhh. (Also, I like math. I wonder what it's like for people who don't like math.)
