Study Log Thread!

Have a really hard test coming up?  Learning something in your free time?  Really plan out all your work and study time- or are total dumpster fire at that? Then tHiS tHrEaD iS fOr YoU!

--one short cringey advertisement later--

Okay this is pretty much exactly what it sounds.  It's a study log!  You can also come on here to... borrow... other people's study or learning habits.  And it never has to be schoolwork.  It can be how you're improving your art or writing or the log you're making of your water intake or whatever.

ANYWAYS.

Here we go.

OH MY GOSH I JUST WATCHED A HACK VIDEO ON STUDYING TODAY

Okay, okay, okay. So! What you do is you take your notes or article or history book and write down key concepts on a notebook paper. Anyone here like to act? Cause the next part is acting like you're teaching it to a class. And yes, this actually works! There's an actual scientific name for it and why it helps you remember but I forgot what it is. Hope this helps :)

Oh cool I'll have to try that for science.

FOR IT WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME YET.

We're learning about cells.

And pro/eukaryotes.

And organelles.

And chlorophyll.

And... grana?

And glucose and the... light.... reaction.... cycle..... that.....

uh.....

does something?

I have pretty much given up trying to understand.

For stuff I put a lot of effort into, I like to use an SRS (Spaced Repetition System.)  What this means is you basically make flashcards of the stuff and then you review it at certain times. I learn kanji on a site called WaniKani, and their SRS algorithm thingy goes a little like this:

LESSON- If you get it right, it becomes Apprentice 1 and you review it in four hours (or whenever you're available, but not before four hours.)  If you get it wrong it stays lesson and you review it again.... now.

APPRENTICE ONE- if you get it right it becomes Apprentice 2 and you review it again in 8 hours.  If you get it wrong it stays Apprentice One and you review it again in 4 hours.

APPRENTICE TWO- get it right, moves to Appr. 3, review it in around a day. Wrong, moves back to Appr. 1, review it in 4 hours.

APPRENTICE THREE- get it right, moves to Appr. 4, review it in around 2 days.  Wrong, moves back to Appr. 1, review it in 4 hours.

APPRENTICE FOUR- get it right, moves to Guru 1, review it in around a week.  Wrong, moves back to Appr. 2, review it in 8 hours.

GURU ONE- get it right, moves to Guru 2, review it in around two weeks.  Get it wrong, moves to Apprentice 3, review it in around 1 day.

GURU TWO- get it right, Master, review it in around 1 month.  Wrong, Appr. 4, review it in around  2 days.

MASTER- right, Enlightened, review in around 4 months.  Wrong, Guru One, review it in around a week.

ENLIGHTENED- right, Burned.  Wrong, Guru Two, review it in around 2 weeks.

BURNED- You did it!

It's a bit complicated and hard, so either only use it for stuff you really care about, or tweak it for the short term.

I have so many and yet I still procastinate and take to long on my homeworkFrown

25 min study, 5 min break

Listen to lofi music

And listen to the same track each time so it becomes the track that gets you into focus mode

Drink water

Don't just copy your notes- write down everything in your own words, only try to condense in it into a few pages.

If there is a review sheet, do it, circle the ones that are hard or you get wrong, if it is a concept learn it and write it down in your own words, if it is a silly mistake still write it down.

Make a condensed page to glance at right before the test

Time your problems, like if you have 5 questions and 25 minutes, make sure you only spend 5 minutes on each question

So after you do the second page, check your work on the first one, then when you finish the 3rd page, check the 2nd one- if you do it in blocks checking your work is less daunting and you do it better
