Typing!  Who knows

Typing!  Who knows

Typing!  Who knows how to type?  Who is learning?  Who doesn't know?  I am learning, but it is hard for me.  The easy part is that I know where all the keys, but the hard part is the position.  I type faster without having a position, not with two fingers, just kinda my own version of typing.  :) Anybuggy?

I guess i type the standard way, with the position. I used to be really bad at it, but once i got my laptop and began doing most of my writing on it, it sped up, alot.

I know how to type pretty fast, I guess. I learned with this really great book my mom got called Type It by Joan Duffy.

I am an avid typer. It did take me a little while to learn, but now I can type with perfect ease (except for the top row and the funny keys). Keep working at it, and you should get better. 3:(:))

Better yet, those of you with free Internet priveleges google Typer Shark and play it. Or just get permission, I guess. You type words and sharks die and if you're not fast enough you get chomped. I doubled my speed in about a day playing it. Seriously, it's amazing and it doesn't have any of those silly "put thy hands here and here and here and press this key with thy index finger and YOU DIE IF YOU DON'T USE THAT SPECIFIC FINGER SO DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!111!" thingies. *GLARES at Type to Learn 3*

Re: funny keys: doing Algebra online sped that along quite nicely for me.

*brags a bit about 80 wpm speeds of DOOM*

I learned from [insert dramatic descending scale here] the Popcap game Typer Shark. Yes. You type words to kill sharks and keep them from chomping you. It's bizarrely fun. It's on the Internetz, you can google it.

You get darn fast by the time you get to the ghost seas... or the toxic seas...

Our school has this program called Type to Learn 3 which is boring as heck. My main introduction to "positions" was from an old old game called Read Write and Type... or something... which apparently taught you how to read and write AND type all at the same time. Um, there was a gooey green "computer virus" you had to fight by typing if I remember right. It, too, was fun, unlike TtL3 which was just boring as anything.

Re: proper positions: Oh, who cares. As long as you don't stare at the keyboard and hack-and-peck, anyway, I hate when people do that. Regardless, I've seen people who type faster 'n' me typing with just one hand or one and a finger or three fingers and a thumb or whatever. I type just as fast as normal with a pencil/pen in my right hand. Proper hand positions are overrated.

I pretty much use the standard position.

I type best with 1, 2 or 4 fingers, but in 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade we had to type with 10! I was behind everyody else—they'd started doing it in 2nd grade, but I'd gone to a different school then, one that didn't make you type any certain way.

Does anyone know why teachers make you type a certain way? They always say it's faster, but it's NOT!! Not for me, anyway...

I think I learned from a computer class in elementary school. I just remember having these bright red stickers on certain keys where you where supposed to put your fingers. It's all very vague. I can type like the wind now though, although I can;t resist looking down at the keyboard occasionally.

I can type pretty fast I think. I kind of learned from this typing computer game, but that was just about learning where the fingers go. Then I started typing a lot of emails and now I'm much better. It's scary though, I type so much that If I'm sitting somewhere I can type out words on my lap without thinking!? :) If you want to learn how to type faster... I guess just get as much practice in as possible.

Our computer teacher used to make us all use "home row"-- what they called the 'correct' positions of one's hands"-- but pretty much gave up on it last year or whatever because no one actually used it. I use just two fingers to type (right hand) and because I do it so much I've gotten pretty fast. Faster than the rest of the kids in my class, anyway.

I've been typing since fourth grade, so I'm relatively good at it. Not perfect yet, but getting there. I can be prettty fast, and I don't have to look at my hands, which is nice. I do still make mistakes, though, and I'm not very good with hitting numbers yet.
