Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Would like to

Would like to address something. I'm not gonna say that I'm not pointing fingers--because that, of course, would look like  am-- but I think there's been a bit of a lying bug going around the CB lately. So I want to put my thoughts out there on a few things. K? Feel free to share yours, everyone else.

1. Look. Lying, loath though I am to say this, can be a handy skill. Not saying you should do it regularly or even sometimes, but that is the truth. But:

1a. Practice it somewhere else. Not the CB. The CB is a place where you can be yourself and be enjoyed because of who you are, not because you've made up details about yourself to make your life seem more "interesting." I don't care if you have a boring life! I mean, heck, I spend my spare time hunting through drawers for shiny things! I can sympathize with boring lives! Embrace it!

1b. Please. Be convincing, for heaven's sake. NO ONE actually has the name "Bonnie." Or hasn't since the 1950s, anyway. (er, no offense to anyone actually named Bonnie, of course.) Names that are clearly fake are not to be encouraged when practicing fictionalizing things. Which I am also not encouraging, obviously. And when people show up with Mary Sue personalities, well, you know. *is not quite sure how to phrase this exactly*

2. This does not apply to fake names. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be prudent in revealing personal information 'bout yourself on the Internet, even on a censored chatroom like the CB of Awesome Admins. So if you're calling yourself something different because:

2a. you don't want to reveal your real name, or

2b. you'd prefer to go by the name, say, Fae, than the same, I dunno... Deborah... *also does not know how to phrase ths* In other words, if you wanna use a screename, that doesn't count as a "lie."

2continued... then that's all right. By me, anyway.

3. I personally forgive anyone who has done this in the past-- in fact I'm sure we've all done it a /little/ bit, somewhere, myself included-- and ask them to please not be offended by this and at least consider staying at the CB to perhaps, to quote R~D~, I believe, "get to know the real you." (well said, R~D~)

I cannnot speak for other CBers, though, so I ask that everyone else put their feelings about this out there. Because I am not doing this eloquently in the least.

Friends? *hopeful eyes* :)

Thank you, thank you. :)  I agree with everything you say.

This might be one of the few places you can actually be yourself and not get criticized!  So many teens/kids out there think of you as a freak if you are wearing something different, or say "weird" words, (which means you have a big vocabulary :) or even if you like something they don't like.  Here, you can be yourself, and everyone understands, because it seems all of us are "different" or have friend troubles.  On CB, everyone wants to be your friend, no matter who you are.  So don't be afraid to show yourself!!  We don't mind if you're "different"!

Thanks for reading.  :)

And.... isn't there a girl on here named Bonnie?  Not sure if that was her real name, but I think I saw a thread by a "Bonnie".

Sorry, but, TOP.

Cheers. But I know . . . three people named Bonnie. And one of them is in college. *pies Mary* Screen names are fine (how many times have I said that now?) and yes, I agree with everything else. Cheers!

Re: Screen names: So long as you make it known that that's not your actual name, I figure it's fine.

Like, going around trying to convince y'all that my initials really are TNÖ would be, shall we say, silly?

*shrug*

Re: Making stuff up: Personally, I will admit I exaggerate a little some times... but making something up with no reason for it is, again, rather silly.

Very well said, Mary. I heartily agree.

@ R~D~- There was a "Bonnie" who happened to be Macy Anne's penpal, but Macy Anne isn't real, therefore, Bonnie isn't either.

Really?  I think she is... I saw her name in the Honorable Mentions for the Cricket photo contest in the Nov/Dec magazine.  I think it said Macy Anne Z!  Hmm... so many weird things are going on here!!!!

Macy Anne Z. is not real. She was me. This is getting out of control.....BTW, I'm listening to a song called Sorry, which is what I am!!!! I'm terribly sorry about all of this.

Er... see Coco's CaC thread. May I please note that I was not lying intentionally, as I would never do that. I completely blame it on my keyboard. *slaps keyboard*

Okay... partly my keyboard's fault, and partly mine, as I never check over what I put on here. Therefore, that doesn't exactly count as a lie, because I certainly didn't mean to do that. Once more, I'm sorry, and I hope that no one holds this against me.

@ Lovely Mathilda: *looks at said thread* *understands computer malfunctions but is still slightly befuddled* You're 10?! Really? Wow... wow. You're very smart for a ten-year-old... I was totally not that mature at your age. XD I'm afraid that though I'll try to reprogram my brain, I will always, through no fault of your own, think of you as being twelve... ;) Anyway, you're definitely mature enough to pass as being that old. :)

Thanks, Mary Liz. I'm glad I wasn't like that Macy Anne Z. person, and actually was convincing. ;)

Anyway, speaking of Macy Anne, I hope we were all right in thinking that Bonnie isn't real, as that would've been a terrible welcome to the CB. She doesn't seen to be posting much, like all newcomers.

Oh my gosh, I think Bonnie is real! Elizabeth just said she isn't Macy Anne which means that Macy Anne's friend is real!!! Oops! If you are reading this, Bonnie, I'm really sorry!

*throws up hands in bewildrement* I am confused! See what all this lyingness does?

@ Emily: No way! Are their names actually Bonnie, or is that short for something, like Elizabeth?

@ TNO (umlaut): Yes, saying "My name's Haley and my initials are T-N-O" would be, to use your word, quite silly.

I don't think Noah is real either. See my posts on "his" (ahem, or shall we say her?) thread.
