Aphantasia Thread

Have you guys ever heard of Aphantasia? My cousin Emily has it, and she figured it out like not to long ago. She and her partner, Shawn, just came over yesterday and were just about to leave when  Emily brought it up. Basically, though, Aphantasia is a mind form where you don't have an internal image. It can be in different levels.

1. Can't see any image at all in the mind, I only "know" I am thinking of this object.

2. Dim and very vague image.

3. Moderately vivid and realistic.

4. Vivid and realistic.

5. Perfectly realistic, like you are really seeing it.

Obviously, the last 2/3 of the list is not Aphantasia. Apparently, 1/50 people have it. Aphantisa is not a disorder or a disease. I am also wondering, my cousin has no internal voice! Me and my parents were trying to process that. I am wondering if anyone on the CB has anything like this, and if so, what is it like?

It depends for me. If the thing actually exists, and I've seen it, its in between Dim and very vague and Moderatley vivd and realistic.

But if I'M thinking it up, like a character for one of my stories, or a scene from one of my stories, anything I'VE thought up myself, it's Vivid and realistic.

But sounds! Once I hear a sound, like a song or someone's voice, I can hear the tone perfectly in my head!

Pretty dim. I can see and think of it, but it's really dim.

I don't know!! I've tried to figure this out before and I think I'm somewhere closer to the aphantasia end of the spectrum but I'm not entirely sure...

if I close my eyes, I just see black. nothing changes that—but I can cognitively know what an apple would look like, I can visualize/imagine it? I think? I know what blue looks like but what's behind my eyes never turns blue. is that how it is for y'all? or does that mean I have aphantasia? I DON'T KNOW

what is 'seeing' anyway? ahhh

However, I definitely have an inner voice—I pretty much constantly have a song stuck in my head *sigh* (rn it's Awake and Alive by half•alive)

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to actually see it - it's about visualizing :P

I'm not sompletely sure if I have this or not... like, people who don't have aphantasia, do u actually see a object in your head, like actually looking at it like it's a painting? Or do you just imagine it? I've always been confused by this subject.

I can see really vivid images for a very short period of time, like a second or something. And I remember words really, really well, including the font I see them in--for instance, my remembrance of Seadragon is in the CB name box font.
