Ooh holidays yes :))

I celebrate a mix of ordinary and religious holidays - a full iist would include.. let's see... New Year's, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Epiphany. Epiphany (or the "Day of the Kings" as it's called in Spanish) is, in Catholic countries, a day when the three kings Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar (I LOVE their names, no fantasy author could do better) are supposed to bring gifts for the children in each family. In my family, we do both Santa Claus and the Three Kings (such are the advantages of being bicultural) and even though I'm a little old for it now, I still love it :) Epiphany is the 6th of January, by the way.

For some reason my family doesn't do Memorial Day... I wonder how that happened. We do celebrate Thanksgiving, though.

My favorite holiday is Christmas. It's so full of festivity and music and friend/family gatherings, and not only do you receive presents, you get to give people presents and just generally let them know how much you love them. It's also really nice because so many people all over the world, even people who aren't necessarily Christian, celebrate it, and it feels to me like it sort of unites everyone.

This month on February 10th is Lunar New Year, or Chinese New Year! It's a pretty big holiday with my family and usually includes a feast of some sort.

My dad is Jewish, so we do celebrate Jewish holidays but don’t usually go out to services. My favorite is Hanukkah, because my dad makes latkes (potato pancakes) for everyone and they are so delicious. My mom’s side of the family is Japanese and on the New Year every year (January 1st, not Lunar New Year), we go visit my grandparents and make mochi and red beans.
