Advice?

So I'm taking a French class virtually. It has a lot of work and is very fast paced--it's never happened in my life but I feel like I'm falling behind. I want to drop the class because it's not effective and not teaching anything as opposed to just busywork. Because of the class, I don't have as much time to learn other languages.

I've tried to talk to my mom but she says I'm "ALMOST AT THE FINISH LINE" "HALFWAY THROUGH" and that she can help me do my work. I think she just assumes I can do anything easily because I have a high IQ. Well, I don't find everything easy, and I also simply don't enjoy the class. She refuses to let me quit saying it will look bad on my record. It says "asynchronous" but O don't think it's really asynchronous at all and I am forced to fit in with the class's pace of chapters lasting over a week, often covering seven subjects or more. And there is way too much homework

Any advice?

i don't have enough thoughts for a coherent post yet but i'll try to post something later! i hope you can figure something out. is there a way to pause the class for a bit, maybe?

Well, I'm not an expert on giving advice, but I'll try! Since I have been taking French for 8 years, I think that it's worthwhile (but you see I'm biased)! So maybe try practicing on Duolingo (Duolingo is not that bad) to refresh your French. Or try studying? Yeah it's more work, but I believe that every language deserves its chance. Or maybe try to tell your mom that you can learn this language another way? You mentioned that she is telling you that she will help you with your work, so maybe you could try to show her that it's going too fast? I say try to explain to her your situation. And forget IQ, it's just something that makes you set standards for yourself. I have never taken the test or worried about it and it's kind of surprising to my friends because I am in all that advanced classes. Again you don't have to take my advice if you don't want too!

i'm so sorry this took so long! *optional hugs, allergy-friendly baked goods, cat to snuggle, and free book of your choice*

i doubt it would look that bad on your record if you quit class, honestly. besides, if I'm correct you're fairly young, so I don't think schools care as much if I'm correct?? (could be completely wrong) if it isn't teaching you much, there really isn't much point to take the class. and that does sound really time consuming. Maybe you could try explaining the things you could do with your school if you did quit the class? or even write an explanation of how it's not useful and there's too much homework, even possibly like an essay. I think the way you explained it on here is good so maybe you could copy some of that. and you're right - if it says it's asynchronous but you have to do everything on its schedule, it's not actually asynchronous and that's an issue with the class. you might even be able to talk to the teacher and see if you could go slower or do less of the homework or something.

i don't know if this is super helpful but I hope it helps at least a little! i really don't have much to say, so how about a general compliment? You always have really good ideas for the CB, even if it's not always possible to put them into place :D and it's great how passionate you are about so many things (people tend to say that it's great to be passionate but then when you're actually passionate they don't like it but i actually mean it of course).

anyway have a great day and sorry this ended up more like a compliment than anything useful
