Good news, Chatterboxers!

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Good news, Chatterboxers!

Good news, Chatterboxers! My typewriter came! Yes, I have been keeping a small morsel from you. I won a typewriter on ebay! (It was a very close thing, I only won it by $1.50) It is a Smith Corona #4 manuel typewriter in mountain ash red, and it is my new most prized possession. If you google corona #4 manuel typewriter you can find a picture. I have yearned for a typewriter ever since I read the Kit American Girl doll books, where she has a typewriter, and that was when I was like, 7, so It's great that I have one. And it's orange! Orange/red, I guess, but mostly orange. It makes such a great clacking noise when bang down a key. If I hit the keys of my computer that hard, I would break the keyboard in like, 1 hour. I plan on doing all of my writing on it and using the computer only for chatterboxing, researching, and first drafts, so I can save the file.

I'm already thinking of my typewriter as a she, but what should I name it (her?)?. Any suggestions? I am hoping for something pompous and old fashioned, maybe?  Naming ideas, go!

Oh my gosh!!!!!  I LOVE typewriters!!!!  When I go to my grandma's house, I always write stories on her typewriter (though they're terrible works).  Unfortunately, my grandma lives in the Midwest and I live in CA.  Bummer.  I think I have my other grandma's typewriter somewhere, but I don't know where.  I'm inspired to look for it now.

As for names, I really have no idea.  Once I see other names, I might be able to come up with something.  For now, though, my mind is blank.  But I think it's a really good idea to name a typewriter.  I named my old violin, and now I have a new one that I still need to name.

I once saw a typwriter FREE at a garage sale, but my mom wouldn't let me take it because she said that's what we have a computer and a printer for.

Yeah, typewriters are awesome. They make such a jolly clack when you type on them. The one I got is almost 100 years old. It's so cool to think about who might have used it in the 20's. I picture a bowler wearing, cigar smoking, pin striped suit wearing, fat little newspaper reporter man. Or a slim, quiet, shy little lady working on a fiery novel.

Hahaha, I can so totally picture both of those!!!

Hmm, it's red, huh??  Well, I say something cheerful, and old fashioned.... like Ruth, or Greta, or Heidie, or Martha, or Eliza, or Carmen, or Louise!!  Ha, I could go on for days, I love naming stuff!

Does it go 'Ding!' when it gets to the end of a page??  Is it hard to correct stuff??  Do you make carbon copies??  Does it all work right??  Ahhh!!!  I'm so jealous!!!!!!!

Marianne!  Elinor!  Gertrude!  Beth!  Guinevere!  Juliet!  Eloise!!  Mildred!  Judith!  Bethany!  Amelia!  Claire!!  Cecilia!  Cynthia!  Hyacinth!  Margaret!!  Pauline!!  I really could just keep going!!!!!!!  But I guess I better stop.  (Viola, Hero, Persephone, Titania, Natalie, Natasha!)  (Miranda, Gweneth, Audrey, Grace, Claudette, Jane, Lydia, Mary, Kitty! Marietta)

STOP!  Ah.  I get so carried away.  That's a lot of names.  Sorry.  *blushes*

*gasp*  I'm. So. Jealous.  AAAHHHH!!!!!!  I've wanted a typewriter FOREVER!!!!!!!  Probably since the first time I went to my previous Doctor's office.  He had a couple of old ones for kids to play with while they were waiting.  Oh, I loved them so much.  They were the REALLY old kind.  Ah.  Not fair.  Ooh, I'm so so jealous!!!

Yes, yes, yes Laura, it does all of those things, although I haven't yet made a carbon copy. You need special carbon paper, I think, which I will most definitely  get eventually. And I love those names, especially Greta.

*glows from happiness*  Heehee!  I like Greta too.  :)

Ooh, I'm just too jealous!!!  I want to come over and use it!!!!!  :D

Was it dreadfully expensive????

*mutters to self* need to save money, or convince mom and dad to get one.... or brother!! Ah-ha!!  He has money!!!! And he wants one almost as much I do!!!!  Oh DARN.  He never spends his money.......  Except once in a while.

Ooh, you are just so lucky!!  (I spelled that 'licky' for a moment)  Have I said that enough times??

I bet you can tell I'm really enthusiastic!  :D :D :D :D :D

Wow that's so cool!

Old fashioned... hmm Greta is cool. You could always  name it Kit. Or Esther. *giggles becuase tht is wht my aunt who is a wanna be Amish-person and wants to auction off all my hair nicknamed me--I have a pretty weird family, and I'd rather not go into it.**

It was kinda expensive, especially for my unfortunately limited funds. I got it for eighty-one dollars and fifty cents exactly on ebay (although there was also another manual on there from the 60's for only ten dollars. I really wanted this one though. You understand.), and I got a three pack of ribbons off of a website for 30 dollars, though my mom and dad bought those for me. Yes, since I have literally no money except for a few quarters, perhaps, I am working off my debt by sweeping and vacuuming and laundrying and dish washing and such things. It's dreadfully dull, but worth it, because after I'm done with my chores I can go and clack away on my typewriter!

Ah yes, I'm afraid I wouldn't even be able to go for the ten dollar one!!! :D Hmm.... Maybe I could get some money sweeping... or baking blueberry muffins....... :)
