30 Hour Famine!

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

30 Hour Famine!

30 Hour Famine! Has anyone ever done this before? What was it like? I'm doing it with my youth group. We go without food for 30 hours to raise money for world hunger. Did you know that 25,000 kids under five years old die every day, mostly because of hunger and preventable causes? It's really horrible. I've already collected, um, $220 in donations, and am trying to get $360, to help feed and care for a kid for a year.

Our fast starts April 16. We eat lunch on Friday, and then we don't eat until Saturday supper. We have a lock-in at the church and learn about hunger. I'm really looking forward to it.

Oh, our confirmation class is doing that! Except, since I'm under 11, I have to eat a little food.

Well that's really great of you, but I don't quite see how you could be looking forward to it.  I can't imagine it's going to be very enjoyable.

Good luck, and don't pass out.  :)  I'm holding you in very high regard.  I think it's awesome you're doing this.

I hope you do ok! I don't I'd really be able to do it because, well, right now I feel lightheaded and I had dinner last night!

That's awesome!!! Way to go. I've never actually done the 30 hour famine thing, but I once went 35 hours without food. I ate dinner, had nothing at all the next day, and then had breakfast the next morning. It really makes you appreciate the fact that you live in a place where good food is everywhere. Good luck! Hope you raise enough money!

That's really kind. In the Roman Catholic Church we don't eat meat for 40 days and eat nothing on Friday.
