Parental Rights. Has anyone heard of this before?  "Today parental rights are coming under assault form judges who deny or refuse to recognize parental rights." I took that form the Parental Rights website, and their is more happening that just that. Just thought I would put this out there and see what people say (or if anyone says anything)!

Parental Rights. Well I have a lot to say on this subject! Parents have the right to teach their own children, that is to homeschool, and they have the right to spank or otherwise discipline them as long as it is not abuse.

Did anyone hear about the girl whose parents divorced and her mom (who had her) wanted her homeschooled, and her dad (who didn't) wanted her in Public School? They actually took it to court, and the judges decided that she should go to public school because they thought something like, she wasn't exposed to very many views or opinions. And do you know why they thought that? Because of her strict adherance to her faith!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Emilie- Oh yeah! My cousin emailed me a link to some article about that a while ago! I thought that was so unfair!

@Emily: My friends parents are divorced, and their public schooled because their Dad wasn't OK with them being homschooled...  But their half siblings (on their Mom's side) are homeschooled.

And about the court part; shouldn't they have asked the girl what she wanted to do.  That is one way parents do not think.

Yes. I agree with Medd. They should have just asked the girl. Parents, in my opinion, have the right to choose whether their children are public-schooled or homeschooled, but the children should have some say. Much say. And if the parents can't decide themselves, then it should obviously just be the child's decision!

And that was completely unfair of the judges. She can practice whatever faith she wants to, as strictly as she wants to! I haven't heard of this before, though. What was her faith, anyway (just out of curiosity)?

I think she was a Christian but I wasn't able to find the article and look.

@Medd: I agree. Although, it seems odd to me that someone would not be okay with homeschooling. Normally I would hear the same sentence but about Public Schooling.

Yes, I also think it is odd that someone is not OK with homeschooling.  Though all people do think differently, in one way or another.

I agree.  Parents have a right to punish their kids, including spanking, if it is not abuse.  An occasional swat isn't going to harm anyone, just teach a lesson.  I know parents, mine included, who tell me that the point of the swat is to scare the child, it's not really painful, actually sometimes it's not painful at all.  It's just so the child gets scared, and learns the lesson.

And, of course parents have the right to homeschool!

Well, when I was a little kid, if I bit my brothers I got soap in my mouth. Bleh. But I'm kinda glad my parents did that, cause' I don't want to go around biting people anymore. *randomness*

I just recently learned that some people are "racist" against homeschoolers, but my mama say people in the south are more open to it. Those people who think homeschooling is wrong should hear what homeschoolers have to say about public schools!  Especially the ones in the south! My mama once saw this thing about how the different schools in the countries are rated, 1 being the best, 50 being the worst and Georgia was like number 48 or somthing!

To publicly schooled CBers: please do not take any offense to what I said about what homeschoolers have to say about public schools.
