Welcome to Chatterbox!!  When you think you have no ideas for writing, do a very boring thing like dishes, laundry, chopping vegetables, etc.  Do this for a long time.  Eventually your brain will start to buzz with boredom and that's when some ideas might pop up, to keep your brain occupied.  Write them down.  Keep writing.  This works for me, usually!

Hey Peach. Welcome. If you are stuck and need ideas, try doing something like boucning a ball against a wall or shooting some hoops, thinkning, what if this happened to me? Eventually when you think of something good replace yourse;f with some characters and think of a plot to go with the idea...just trying to help..

Hi! Welcome to the CB! I'm Ima, as you can probably see. That's really cool that you're half Eskimo. Yupik or Inupiat?

Welcome Peach!!!  We'd love to have you, and are so glad you came!  (I also love your name, by the way... peaches are soo good!)  I am Leaf, most known for swinging happily on my tree, though I do other things, too of course!  I LOVE to read and write as well as play violin and piano!  For writing, what usually works for me is to just sit down at the computer (or pencil and paper, however you write) and just let my fingers fly.  At least something will come out on the paper/computer screen and that'll just get your creative juices flowing.  Again, welcome to the CB!!

Peach, if you want to make a new thread, look in the top right corner. There's a rectangle with a picture of one of the buggies. At the bottom of the rectangle are the words: "Click here to talk ___________. On TM, the blank will be "about this month's issue." On CaC, it will say, "about Cricket." On BaB, it'll be, "about a new book," on DtE "about the world around you, on PP, "about the arts," and on Inkwell, "to fellow authors and artists." That may or may not make sense, but I tried, at least. And if you want to know how to post a comment, well, look above the first comment on a thread, any thread. There should be the words, "add new comment" in red. If you click them, you can add a comment. (Sometimes I wonder if everyone sees this button. There are a few people who never seem to use it, favoring instead its alternative.) The alternative in question is the "reply" button, also in red. It's at the bottom of every comment. Click it and your comment will appear directly below it (unless someone else already replied to that person; then it'll show up after that reply). And believe me, this isn't anywhere near as complicated as I'm making it sound.

Also, I realized that the "Inupiat or Yupik?" question is irrelevant if the Eskimo  side of your family is from Canada. Or am I getting this mixed up with something else? Does it even matter? I suppose not, and you may not want to tell because it gives away location. I just wondered...

And now I have advice on writing ideas, too. Sit outside and watch what happens for a while. Does anyone walk by? Are you even remotely curious about their life story? Because you can make it up and write it down. Just imagine what sorts of things they might have done. It will probably be much more exciting than reality. Or if there are no strangers that you can see to unknowingly give you information, look at an animal: A squirrel, a toad.. There will probaly be something. You can write from its point of view, or, if you don't want to do that, imagine how it might have impacted someone's life. Or if you can't find any inspiration that way, you can even write from the point of view of something that most people wouldn't think of as living. It's not as challenging as it might seem at first (or at least as I thought it could be), and I actually enjoy it. I've written from the point of view of machines, for example, and individual grains of sand. A large part of the novel I'm going to write in July will be from a tree's perspective. Be creative. Write about what you find interesting, whatever it is. Or just sit and think. Daydream. What thoughts come to you? Write them. You're bound to think of something; your mind will get bored and start creating to pass the time. You could even just write a modified version of your own life. I read a book once in which 2 girls wrote a story about themselves that was basically the same as their lives, but in a fantasy setting, with witches and wood nymphs and enchanted foxes and things. Or you could base your story on mythology or folklore or fairy tales. Just write what you want, really. I used to have the same problem as you, actually but I've overcome it...

Hi Ima!  I just read your post and had some comments.  First off, I'm have a tree story going as well.  It's great, since I can just ask my tree about life, and write about it... ;)  I think it's cool writing from the perspective of something/someone nonhuman.  It's interesting to see what people think the nonhuman someone/something would feel about the human race or just life in general.

Also, I wholeheartedly support your tip for writing.  I don't know if any other writer does this, but I sort of think of my life as a story, halfway watching my life happen.  I like to pick up things I experience and stick into my mental, or even written reserve.  That way, I have a really good shot at making a certain scene more realistic.  The other day, I was playing cards with my dad, and grabbed a really good metaphorical scene out of that.  You never know what might happen to you!  It's always great to be aware of your surroundings, because life has a lot to offer to a budding writer!

Yes, I agree, and you said it well. I think there are many writers who use scenes from their lives in their books, actually, or things they hear, etc. I've heard of some who take pens and paper with them everywhere, to record anything interesting they notice. I'm not at that stage, but situations can arise when I find something that I just know I have to use somewhere.

I agree!  You could also use your dreams.  I had a really good one for writing a story last night...

By the way, Peach, I'm Dawnpaw!  I like writing, too, but, for me, ideas just come to me.  I also love to read!  I also play video games...  Enjoy your stay at the chatterbox!
