There's a thread about vegetarianism, but no one ever talks about the meat industry.  Isn't it the most revolting thing you've ever heard of???  All vegetarians:  Do you eat eggs, milk, fish, or seafood?  Sea animals, actually.
Anyone...?

I'm vegetarian!  I eat eggs and dairy, but absolutely NO seafood/animals!!!!  No offense to those who do, but I don't really consider you vegetarian if you eat fish and stuff!!!!  My brother is turning into an almost vegan.  He doesn't eat eggs, seafood/animals, or gelatin.  He does eat dairy though, because if he didn't, he would have almost nothing to eat!!!!  Although, when it comes to cheese, he always checks the ingredients, because a lot of cheeses contain animal rennet (look it up), others have veggie rennet, or something else, and those are OK.  I can't stand the meat industry. I agree that it is one of the most revolting things on this planet!  My mom was vegan when I was born, except, while she was pregnant she craved tuna all the time (YUCK!).  But then she missed meat too much :( so she started eating it again.  She's wanted to be veggie ever since, but never got around to it until this year.  It really makes me mad me when people try to trick me into eating meat!!!  They ask me why it matters so much, and how could I know if it tastes bad, if I never tried it?!!!!  I tell them that it's not the taste that matters, its morals!  I am disgusted by the thought of someone actually looking at a live chicken and thinking how tasty it looks!!!!

I know!!  It's gross!!  I know exactly how you feel.  Now, I have to go wash my hands if I EVER touch an animal product!!  When I was little I used to love looking at the lobsters in the tanks, and I never knew why my parents were so uncomfortable when I did.  If I only knew...  *shivers*

'Kay, I know what you mean about the lobsters. I used to always watch them in their tank in the seafood section of Safeway, not knowing their fate. I don't know what I THOUGHT was going to happen to them, be sold as pets or something I guess. I was grossed out when I finally asked Mommy if we could buy one (I think that's what happened) and she said they were food!

I would also agree with you on veal. Pork is one thing, but it's just not worth it to be cruel to animals to get better-tasting food.

The other thing is fur. We have such wonderful fake furs that I think it is not at all neccesary to have real fur.

((I thought I'd focus on our agreements rather than our disagreements))

Well, don't worry, Laura. I'm not going to trick you into eating meat. You can decided what you want to do in life, and that's what you want to do. You have your right to not eat what you don't want to eat, and people should respect that. They should not trick you into eating meat (as you might know). I hate fish, and seafood. Sometimes my mom and dad try to trick me into eating fish, by calling it chicken. But I can tell the difference between fish and chicken. They smell WAAAY different! I win every time in that battle...

Also, tuna in a can is disgusting! Even my dad thinks so, he calls it cat food.... my brother, dad, and I won't eat it, and my mom says, "Awwww, it's really good!

THANK YOU!!!  That is sooo gross about the fish/chicken!!!  They smell sooo different!!!  Ugh, when my parents cook meat, the whole house smells like a butcher shop or something (I'm guessing, I've thankfully never been in one).

I know what you mean about people trying to trick others into eating meat!  At my church camp in '07, I convinced another girl to be a veggie.  The next year, I was excited, because a new girl was also a veggie!  The problem was, she sat with me at a table with another girl, who happened to be a meatetarian.  Not really, but she is completly anti-vegetarian.  She convinced the new girl to eat meat!  Proud of her accomplishment, she tried to convince me, even putting chicken on my plate!  I was disgusted and sat at the other end of the table.  Wait till she learns that I'm a vegan! :D:D:D:D:D
