Cancer. When

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Cancer. When

Cancer.

When you hear that word ^^^^ what do you think of???

Quote on quote (ALD): "A word that brings mostly fear for those who don't have it, and even more fear for those who do." Those are the most REAL words I have ever heard!

Yes! Cancer is the scariest word I have ever heard. It brings bad and sad memories back and gives me bad dreams!

Here is my (grandpa's) testemony! PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING!!!!!!!

Last year (September 2009) my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer. My
mother held off on telling the kids until about a week or two before he
died. So I was always at their house! *Starts crying* (no, for real!!!) Thankfully they lived next door to us! I wanted to spend every waking
moment with him! My school MADE me go to counseling because of this. Then he died September 15, 2009! CryCryCryCryCryCryCryCry

My mom and grandma had him cremeated! When my grandma and I were alone
she asked me if I wanted to see his ashes. I took a DEEEEEEEEEP breath
and said yes. That was a HORRID mistake. Once I saw the ashes I broke
down! I fell to the ground and started crying!!! My grandma took me to
her bed and lay with me. She too started to cry and grieve with me!

Did I mention that it was a Monday? So I had to go to [public] school! I
walked in to school all teary eyed and just MISERABLE!!!!!!! My teacher
asked me what was wrong. I said my grandpa died earlier that morning.
Then a bunch a kids came up to me and said stuff like:

"What's wrong ya big baby!"

I replied:"GO AWAY AND SHUT UP!!!!!!!! MY GRANDPA DIED THIS MORNING! IF
IT WAS UP TO ME I WOULDN'T HAVE EVEN COME!!!!! Then they
just backed off.

Andy P.C. says, "porc"= Pork?? Do you want PORK for dinner??

I'm so sorry, Vida! And those kids who called you a baby are jerks. (and I'm very disappointed if some of those people were/are your friends) *gives virtual hug* :-)

Vida did say they backed off after she told them why, so I hope they then became understanding and sympathetic.

Vida, I'm really sorry. Have someone you love so much die like that...it's so hard. I'm sure that he's watching over you and your family right now and knows how much you love him. It's awful that those kids were so inconsiderate; I hope that once they found our why you were upset, they felt badly. *hugs*

I'm so so so so so so so so so sorry!!!!!! My grandpa died when I was in second grade, but I had to go to school because my mom said that we would talk about him later after school. For about a month I was crying. I walked into class about to cry. But only my best friends understood why to stay away, and all the jerks decided to stay away. (They did that anyway, I was considered 'the nerd.')

Awww I'm really sorry! That's really sad. Losing people close to you is always hard.

Earlier this year, a young mother of a girl in my school and parish lost her life to breast cancer. Then hardly a month later, one of the sisters of a girl in my school and parish lost her life to a type of cancer called lymphoma. The doctors weren't even aware of what it was until a few days before her tragic death. We were all so sad and broken and quiet for weeks.

Cancer is indeed a scary word, and I pray that all of you never have to hear it.

We're sorry, Katie. But there are likely also people in your school and parish who are cancer survivors. Let's encourage people to remember that.

I'm so, so sorry you had to deal with that.  Isn't death the most horrid thing ever?  If it makes you feel any better, I (sort of) know how you feel.  At the beginning of December, my mom came in my room and told me she'd just gotten an email from her sister saying that their cousin's son Harrison had killed himself the month before.  Harrison and I were second cousins (or whatever...I really don't know anything beyond cousins :P), and I didn't know him way too well, but he was still my only relative my own age.  I stared at my mom until she left the room, then I immediately started crying.  I cried more that month than I have in the rest of my life. The way I look at everything has changed since I found out about it.  But I've never been more confused and scared in my life. (he was one of those nine kids who committed suicide because of bullying back a couple months ago)

We're so sorry to hear about this, Kenzie. What a terrible loss! You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

 Love,

Kenzie, do you possibly know why he commited suicide????

How old was he... like 15??? That is tooooooooo young to die!!!!!!!!

I am soooooooooooooo sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend (well we were only 4) Aden died in a car crash! I went to his funeral and cried. Then when we got home I cried for a month and I missed school for a week (Homeschool).

That was terrible!!

EVERYONE,

THANKS FOR ALL THE WORDS OF KINDNESS!!!
Ann, you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope its okay, but I told my mom and she emailed our pastors (They are married so there are 2) and they said they are both praying. My mother is too!

I hope that was okay! I'm so sorry!!!!! With GOD's help he CAN survive!! If you only just believe!!!!!!

Because of bullying supposedly.  From what I can tell, he was a wicked happy guy and wasn't depressed at all.  And yeah, he was 15; he'd be 16 in March.  I'm sorry about your friend!  That must've been horrible. :(

Did you delete it for some awkward reason?

I think the Admins were all busy with other things. Now I'm posting asap.

Something just occured to me. I'll mention it later in this post. Cancer is a horrid word. But death might not be so bad, if you really think about it (call me crazy) but look at the Ancient Egyptians. They believed that after death you would go to a much better place, a beautiful place away from famine, suffering, storms, and other horrid things such as cancer and diseases. (I don't think that they had cancer. Admins?) They weren't afraid of death. They actually looked forward to it. They knew that they would see their friends and family in just a few years, and they would be in peace and quite for a long time. If you believe that you're loved ones will go to a better place and you will follow them, then I guess that's that's the end of my point. (this was my point)

I think the first documented case of cancer was actually from ancient Egypt, but Hippocrates ("the father of medicine," a Greek physician) is the one often accredited for discovering the disease because he named it.  It's definitely not a new disease, we just know much more about it now because of new technologies and research.

"To the well-organised mind, death is just the next great adventure." And yes, as a Christian I believe in life after death, and I don't fear death because I believe I'm going to Heaven.
