Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Skiing

Skiing

The beauty. You go up the lifts and the hum of voices dies down. You see the mountains surrounding you,covered in snow. Up on the top you push off and fly like a bird through clouds oblivious to everyone. You race by, the scenery blurred but at the same time you can feel nature around you.

 It amazes me to ski. It's beautiful. Whoever invented it: THANK YOU!

So, I went Skiing today and I'm wondering: Do you like skiing, Skiing experiences, How do you feel when you're skiing... You may have guessed it already. This thread is 100% about skiing.

I'm a big fan of cross-country skiing, Elizabeth. Trails through the woods are so beautiful, as are open meadows. I can enjoy nature at my own speed. I wonder which animals made which tracks. One early morning about 8 deer ran across the trail right in front of me and took my breath away! I'd been looking straight ahead as they approached from my left. And whenever there's enough snow, I ski at any park or even out my own back door. I don't have to travel to someplace that has a ski lift. Downhill skiing is awesome, too, though.

Hey, all you ski enthusiasts! I'm just back from a 3-hour ski through the woods at the state park. The snow here is deep and looks like confectioner's sugar. We heard a woodpecker, two chicadees (who seemed to be having a conversation), and several other bird and other animal sounds we couldn't identify, and we saw lots of animal tracks.

Admin, that sounds amazing! Thank you so much for telling us about it. :)

You're welcome. We had such a great time. I had to share it with my Chatterbox friends. One of my skiing friends called after we got home to say that she'd looked in her tracks book and discovered that a lot of the unusual little tracks we saw were made by voles! Who knew there are so many little creatures living beneath the snow? The only place I've ever heard of a vole before is in an alphabet book--V is for vole!

@Admin: K. Thanks! (I don't feel that scared anymore) :-)

@Elizabeth M.: I take it that you haven't fallen off the lift? :-P

Urg. My top comment sounded strange. What I would have been easier to understand, Elizabeth M., was that I hope you haven't fallen off a lift. :-)

@Admin: That's so cool! *hands hot chocolate*

Thanks for the hot chocolate, Olive! It's delicious. How thoughtful of you. Skiing does make one thirsty!

@ Admin: AWESOME!

@ Olive: Actually I have. They were small lifts though and not the fancy ones. Some people looked at me when I tried to push my ski off to stand up.  One time I fell over and my skis kind of twisted together. That kind of hurt but oh well. :P

I am going skiing in the Rockies in *six* days!!!!! It hasn't sunk in fully yet....I'll probably be freaking out and bouncing off the walls when it does.

Ooooooh! Lucky you, MJ. Have a great time, stay safe, and tell us all about it when you get back.
