Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Question:

I don't know if this is in the right forum but what are NaNoWriMos (or whatever they're called)?  I've heard a lot about them...

NaNoWrMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, in which you trry to write a 50,000-word novel in Novvember. There's also a YWP (Young Writers' Program) where you can choose how long the novel has to be. ScrptFrenzy (or Screnzy) is where you write a 100-page (or shorter, if yo're in the YWP) script in April, JulNoWriMo is like NaNo in July with no YWP, AugNoWriMo is the same but in August and you can set any goal for yourself over 4,999 words, EdNoWriMo is when you spend 50 hours of March editing, and I don't think any other WriMos (Writing Months) have been mentioned on here, but if you've any more questions, please say so.

You're welcome! You Google it, click on the official website, and sign up. For most of these, including the official NaNo, you're supposed to be 13 to sign up, though you can round your age up to the nearest teen (ML, Meadow, and I all did) if you don't mind lying. If you don't want to lie about your age, do the YWP. There are CBers doing both programs, and you might want to buddy them. We'll tell you our usernames when you decide which you do.

If you don't want to wait until November, there are several WriMos sooner that you can do instead; I'll give you their names if you want to do them.

Do you post the story on the website or send it in?? And can you look at other peoples "pages" even if you haven't signed up??

Neither, you just record your word count--well, at least for NaNo. It's the same for JulNo and Screnzy, but for AugNo, you have to send it to someone who will count your words. I don't know about the others, never having been to their websites.

On NaNo, you can't really look at people's pages without signin up, or at least you're probably not technically supposed to because they make it really hard, but if you Google someone's username with the word NaNoWriMo, you can easily find it. I'm Ima, so just Google 'Ima NaNoWriMo.' All the usernames I know for CBers are on my Buddies List, but here are the less obvious to guess ones:

Evilsilhouette=Medd

L.E.M.=Laura

trident1347=Tim

babblebop=Jenni

If you don't recognize anyone else, it's probably because they stopped posting before you arrived. Everyone besides the ones I mentioned have their CB name in their NaNo name somewhere.

I don't know most people's usernames for YWP, but Charlotte is Animals Are 8D (or something like that) and Elizabeth/Lucy/Cocheta's is elizabeth_cricketeer or something similar.

Or you can try to find them on the forums - all forum posts have links to the poster's profile. Most of the people here don't post on the forums, though. I post a lot, though.

Oh, and the names would be fine if they don't mind! :)

Oh, wait, did I forget to tell you how to find people whose names I didn't tell you because they were obvious? Just look at my buddy list.

Also, a few people's profiles have links to their websites, so look for those. They're all great.

Aetc says (a)arm!

Thank you! Thank you! This sounds cool! It doesn't cost anything, right? And just because I live in Gemnay I can still join the USA Nano or something right??

Yes, it's free, though you're allowed to make a donation (It's a nonprofit organization), and the 'National' part doesn't really mean anything at all, so you can still join.  It started out more as a joke than anything else, really, and 'National' was an exaggeration because there were oly around 20 people, and then they gave it a website, and over the years, it's grown so much that thousands of people do it from all sorts of countries, and they didn't feel like changing the name. You can actually include your region for statistical purposes, and I'm pretty sure Germany's regions are there. Of course, you don't have to say what region your from if you're worried about stalkers; many people don't; it's perfectly fine.

Stalkers?!

Oh... I didn't mean that. They're not likely to be there. There's no evidence that they're there, but none to the contrary, either, so some people get worried online just in case. Anyway, you'll be perfectly fine as long as you don't do something ridiculous like reveal your address, so don't worry. Anyway, that's not NaNo-specific; it goes for just about anywhere, including here (though here, we have the admins to prevent us from saying anything too specific), but you should be fine. Some people are more worried about it than others, though, and some just don't give any information out at all, and I didn't know where you stood. Don't worry, though; it's just as safe as anywhere else. They're just... hypothetical, anyway.

Yeah, there's no need to be scared, but it's always good to take precautions.

Good! I was worried. I know that I shouldn't give out specific information but stalkers *shivers* that seriously got me worried... :/
