Does anyone else

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Does anyone else

Does anyone else like to garden or go outside and study weeds and such? I really like to but mainly in Spring. Last year I cleared off our patio and planted a lot of seeds and bulbs: Carnations; zinnas; marigolds; tulips; daffodils; hyacinths. I did the same thing this year except that I planted different seeds and I didn't plant any bulbs because the ones from last year are coming up. This year I planted chrysanthemum, sunflowers, morning glories, and carrots.

I also just wanted to say I got my braces off yesterday!!!!!

That's awesome, Elizabeth! I wish I had space to garden, but I do have a lot of indoor plants. It's so nice to have lots of green, living things indoors (especially in Chicago winter) and they keep the air clean. Congrats on getting your braces off! -admin

My mom and I (well, mainly my mom) plant flowers every year in spring. When the flowers are in full bloom, I love to just go out and sit in the garden. My favorite flowers we have are begonias and roses.

@Olive: It only hurt a little bit.

I have gotten really interested in herbs and wildflowers. We have this book that has a bunch of herbs and their uses. It even says what parts you use and what they are for. It tells you how to make tinctures and oils and infusions with them. Bedstraw which everybody thinks is an annoying weed (Which it is) can be made into an infusion and drunk it to cool a fever and if you soak a cloth in the infusion it can be used on burns and grazes. In the book there are all kinds of weeds that you find in most yards and can be used for a lot of stuff. Oh and if you don't know what bedstraw is you can search it on the internet and you will probably find a picture of it.

I don't garden much, but I recently started growing some green beans from seeds, and they're doing quite well! Plants are fascinating. I do like to watch them. I love learning about medicinal properties of herbs; my mom has a book with a large section about it and I read it all.
