Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Japan

What happened on Friday (it was Friday, correct?) was dreadful. First, an 8.9 earthquake, then an even worse tsunami! That's really horrible. I think we should all offer our hearts and prayers to Japan and its people. :-)

Yes, Olive, we're keeping the Japanese in our thoughts and prayers.

It is such a terrible disaster. I've seen some of the videos and such on the news and it's just horrible.  Which of course makes me think, since I live near the ocean... no, no, I really hope we don't ever get hit by a tsunami!  Anyway, yes they are in my prayers.

Don't forget prayer that they'll be able to prevent meltdowns in the nuclear plants in the area. And for supply distribution, especially to more isolated areas.

It's a horrible devastation and I am truely depressed for the people that it affected. Though, I've heard that scientists have proclaimed that it was a 9.0 quake. Cry

I've been seeing things on the news. It's scary. I mean a whole town was lost and more. What is radioactivity? I've heard a lot about it...

Yeah...my family's all prayiing for them! Gee, it sure does seem like a lot of earthquakes are happening lately! First Haiti, then Japan...it's terrible. I saw some of the pictures in the newspaper...it makes me want to cry.

You know, it says in the Bible that in the end times there will be earthquakes...

What do you mean by religeous?? That is terrible your praying for them, or the disaster, or both???? And you don't have to be religeous to pray, believe, or even go to Church. Just so you know.

I heard about that. I also saw some pictures of the damage it did. I think Hawaii got hit too just not as badly. Did anybody else hear about that?

@Elizabeth M.: Explosions have been happening at their nuclear power plant and all sorts of bad stuff that I've heard a lot about but don't remember.

@Mattie: New Zealand also got hit by a quake.

@Elizabeth M.: Radioactivity is somewhat like radiation. In Japan, there's a big nuclear power plant and two of its reactors exploded. (and I think the others were turned off because of the earthquake) The power plant is also letting out steam because it helps (I think) and everyone 20-ish km and closer to the plant has evacuated their homes because they might be contaminated with radiation.

Yeah, and if people get exposed to too much radiation, they may get leukemia, and beleive me, it's not fun. Frown
