So, I'm moving

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

So, I'm moving

So, I'm moving to California this summer, which I'm reallyyyy not looking forward to. *sigh* :( Anybody have any advice/stories/anything to say about moving?

Aww...I'm sorry. That's hard. Like reeaally hard. And I should know. My family has moved 20 times in the last 25 years. No. Joke. So I know what your going through. I live in Cirginia now, but two years ago we moved to CA for my dad's job, and let me tell you, I was pretty much dragging my feet the whole way. Although I was excited to experience a new place I was really sad that I was leaving my close friends behind. Looking back, I realize now, that it would have been a whole lot better for everyone (I think especially myself) if I had gone with a more positive attitude. We're back in VA now (it's a little bit complicated), but it was definitly a time I learned from.

I'm sure a positive attitude will help. Join activities you enjoy--a good way to make new friends with interests like yours. You can keep in touch with your old friends, too, but be on the lookout for new ones, too. Maybe you will meet others who have just moved, too.

Thanks, Hannah and Admin. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude which isn't the easiest at some points, but my thinking is that I still have 6 weeks left, so why be sad while I'm still here and ruin my time. Looking for the good things in it helps too, warmer weather, a pool, my mom gets to be a stay at home mom now, etc. So, thanks. :)

Oh my gosh! I know exactly what you're going through! We moved from the US to Germany a year and a half ago. It was really hard for me to leave all my friends and my home. My advice to you is: keep in touch with your friends and remember that where ever you go, you'll certainly find people to hang out with. I think a few chatterboxers live in CA. Where are you moving to?

Obviously, you're not the only one who has gone through this!  I moved from Ohio to Washington five years ago. Two things that made this move bad: 1, I knew we wouldn't come back to Ohio (we've never gone back there since) and 2, we left the day BEFORE my birthday (we drove).  So, yeah, pretty bummer!

Here's some advice I'd highly recommend: So my mom contacted the homeschool group we would be a part of once we moved here and got me a pen pal from the homeschool group who was my age.  This was about a year before we moved.  By the time I got here, I knew a bunch about this girl, our family was welcomed right into the group and it wasn't awkward between me and the girl because we already knew all those basics about each other.  I'm not sure how my mom did this--but it reallllllly helped to know I would already have a friend in Washington!

Do a big sleepover with all your friends before you go. That way you have plenty of time to say your goodbyes and say whatever you want to individuals without getting all the tears and worries that you don't want! Hey, but CA isn't far from Oregon so try to be optimistic.  I hope some of this helps.

Well, I don't know too much about moving, since the only time I've moved was when I was 2 1/2.  Needless to say, I don't remember it at all.  But, I would just like to welcome you (early) to California!  Please do not feel obliged to answer this question, but northern or southern California?  I'm in SoCal, and so, I believe, is ZB. :)  Anyway, my advice to you is read everyone else's posts that have great advice.  Since I really have none.  Just remember that even though moving may seem horrible, CA isn't that bad. ;)

@Elizabeth: Thanks for the advice, and wow, US to Germany! That's crazy!! I'm lucky to just be moving a state away! I'm moving to this little tiny "cowboy town" that seems very sweet. So, hopefully, we like it! We decided to rent the first few months just in case we hate it and want to go somewhere else, but I doubt we will...

Always welcome new things, no matter how bad they seem. I've been thinking, if I hadn't moved, I wouldn't have met my friends and all the AMAZING Chatterboxers!

I know how you feel! I've moved two times in my life. (Sorry not telling where... I'm a safety freak.) Anyway don't be that bummed because you still have some time and California seems like an awesome place!  It's so warm and nice :)  (Can you tell I want to go there?)

i actually just had a bff of mine move from Oregon to California and he said that Oregon isn't as different from Cali as it seems. Moving can always be tough but look for the silver lining in everything...like inCcalifornia everything is fun and sunny...warm beaches, urban jungle area and tons of amusement parks...I hope you enjoy Cali...and by the way are you moving to socal or northcal?... just to know what kind of weather ur expecting.

It's sorta central. About an hour and a half from Santa Cruz, five from Anahiem, and only about 15 from where I live now, so not too bad. Plus, allllll my family lives here, so we're sure to visit. So, it's really not thaaat bad, just feels like it...

I know!! :D We have annual passes and are hoping to go a lot! :) We went down and spent a week there in our new house to check things out and register for school, etc. and I like the town. The band at the high school (I'll be a freshman) is about half the size of the class I'm coming from, which is dissapointing, but I'm trying to see it as a chance to help it grow... Eeeks, we move in two weeks!!
