The OK twisters.

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

The OK twisters.

The OK twisters.

I don't have long. One of my second
cousins we have not heard from, my other second cousin's apt. was totally
destroyed, not sure of location.

My uncle we have not heard from
Tulsa, OK. My other uncle and second cousin were a quarter [I believe]
when the twister struck OK City, OK.

My great aunt and my second cousin are underground as we speak in Ardmore, OK.

My grandpa is fine. He's in Tulsa, OK.

Oh, my mom just said that my second cousin [the one I mentoned first] is all right but her house has no electricity.

And
my dad *tears up* he, he is in Dallas and was about to leave when the
twisters struck. He didn't leave though! THANK GOD!! There are twister
watches in Dallas County [where he is] and he is going to wait it out
with his brothers another night.

My mother texted my second cousin Kayla [she's the other second cousin^^] and got a wrong number. But the person that had the phone, was a friend of Kayla. She went out and found Kayla and let her use her phone to call us. That was the sweetest thing I've ever heard!!!

I am sooooooo thankful that none of my family members was hurt!!!

Please pray FOR ALL of my family. I didn't list all but the ones I did list are the ones that got hit kinda bad.

My cousin Kayla, she is 21 with 2 kids. Please pray she will find a new job & home soon!

Chick, OK, was hit really hard.

Anyone have family or friends in the twister area??

Please keep me posted,

Vida

We're so sorry for all the tornado victims, Vida, and will keep them all in our thoughts and prayers. We, too, are thankful that none of your family was hurt. We hope you get news of the others soon.

I am so sorry to hear this!!  I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.  It's so terrible that these tornadoes and natural disasters are occurring all over the midwest.

I'm sorry Vida.  I was recently in Missouri and seeing the tornado damage was completely shocking to me, since I live so far away and hadn't heard too much about it.  There was a section of the airport that had been hit!  And on the way to the airport, there was an obvious path the tornado took.... crossing across the road, coming back.... it was horrible.  My cousins, thankfully had no damage done to their house... but the tornado was only ten minutes away.

I've actually lived through a tornado once.  When I lived in Ohio.

Oh my gosh, Vida! I'm so sorry! I hope your dad gets home safely! I've heard about the tornados. They're sweeping across the US. It's amazing! (not in a good way.) I don't think I have any family members or something around the area but I could be wrong... Anyway, my sentimental thoughts to you. *comfort hug*

I'm so, so sorry. That must be terrible. I'll definitely pray for them. I hope they stay safe. No one I know lives in the area, thankfully, but it's horrible that so many people are being hurt.

I hope that your family and friends stay safe!  The tornadoes seem to keep coming, one after another.  There's been so many in the last month.  I don't live in an area where there are many tornadoes, but this month there has been at least one that caused a bit of damage.  The last one here I can remember was in 2003.

I'm so sorry. I will pray for your family for sure. I was about to go to bed when I read this post and am so touched. And again I am praying for you and your family. I hope everything will be okay...**I HATE TORNADOS**

Vida, I am so sorry that so many of your family members were affected by the twisters...you and your family are in my prayers.*hugs*

None of my family members are in danger at the moment, thankfully. It seems that there's another twister in another state with another death toll every day! Seeing all of the damage on the news is so devestating...it must be so hard to see your entire neighborhood destroyed in the blink of an eye. Have any of you buggies (you too Admins) ever been through a weather disaster first hand? R~D~, you've been through a tornado? I've never had a nasty weather experience, but when my dad was really little he had his entire house reduced to one wall because of the Palm Sunday tornados, the now second worst series of wind storms. Let's hope that the horrible weather dies down really soon!

I've been traveling in a car in a bad snowstorm or two, and in blinding rain, but thankfully have not experienced harm in any disasters. The closest to home a tornado hit was about 7 miles away. Some homes were destroyed, but nowhere near the size of the recent disasters in Missouri and elsewhere. I also remember being awakened early one morning by the bed and the whole room gently shaking and realized afterward that it was an earthquake, but no real damamge was done.  We also had a big branch blown down in the yard once, but it just fell on the grass. So my family and I have been very fortunate and we are very thankful for that. And we contribute to charities that help those in disaster areas.

Two simple, good tornado/wind tips I learned from the radio this week:

1. A lady grabbed two brass bells before she took refuge in a closet. If she couldn't get out after the tornado passed, she planned to ring the bells so rescuers could find her.

2. A boy donned his bike helmet before climbing into the bathtub, something he'd been taught in school. He was hit in the head by a flying toilet, but the helmet saved his life!

I also heard about a man who half-buried an old school bus in the side of a hill. He uses it as a tornado shelter and safely rode out the recent one wherever he lives. He says he has it stocked with food and water and has room for about 60 people!

Yes, I did, Kimberly.  Possibly two, but I don't quite remember... I was very young.  Nothing in my house was destroyed, or in my neighborhood, but the tornado went directly past us!  I don't remember much of it, just that we went into the basement bathroom (the safest place because it had no windows) and huddled in the shower stall.  And, where I live, there's supposed to be earthquakes soon.... let's hope not!

Some of my neighbors had their trees fall on their houses during hurricane Ike, but we just lacked electricity for 2 weeks and had a plethora of rain.
