Debate thread!

Debate thread!

This is the thread where a strong debate is going be brewed. Feel free to shoot me any ideas. Once we have a topic, I guess I'll post it on another thread, so It'll be able to start fresh and not be confusing!
But there's one catch. You cannot use your real name. This helps that the CBer doesn't gets too offended or, because of another's beliefs possibly leavs. I do belives this will help.

Gimmy your ideas [NO politics, religon, Cricket, I don't get it anymore, and no veggie/vegan stuff. Sorry if I took the good topics!].

Ok, now you can shoot your ideas at me freely!

Winter or summer?

This is a pretty good idea.  I don't have any ideas though.

How about, instead of debating which religion is better, we debate if it is important to be religious and if it really matters.

We could do that, but it would probably turn into a religion-versus-atheism debate, which could get heated. I'll debate about anything I've knowledge about, though.

And we'd require comments to be posted to be respectful of others' beliefs.

I'm afraid you'll probably know who I am straightaway; I'm easy to guess when I don't deliberately hide my personality, which I hate to do while debating. I'll just have to try extra hard not to be offensive! :)

I only wear socks when I wear closed-toed shoes, i.e. only when I have to because a camp or some place reqiires it. I don't like sneakers. They're so hard to get on, and I don't like leather, and I hate laces! No offense to anyone who loves them, of course; I just have really slow fingers, so it takes forever for me to tie things.

I prefer winter to summer because I live in a hot place. Also, I love the feeling of cold weather and hate the feeling of hot weather. Not that I ever get cold weather even in the winter, but I just went on vacation and entered the freezing, northern Atlantic Ocean, and woo! was it cold! I loved it. Summer is nice, too, though, because of all the free time.

I would prefer not to do religion if no one minds. I don't have any good ideas...

I really have no ideas but I would love to have a debate. Well this is an idea but not a really god one since it has been done before; we could do one about whether you believe there is such a thing as Climate Change or whatever they call it now. I mean the knid that is unnatural.

Oh and why is no one using the names they usually use? Does that mean I should do it too?

The person who made the thread said not to use our names and explained why. I'm sure it's obvious who I am, but oh, well.

I believe in unnatural climate change because A) The process through which it would happen makes perfect sense to me, and we've gotten to the point where the effects of too many factors would be plausible, B) There is evidence of it, C) Yes, the evidence technically could have been faked, but I don't see how. There's more reason to believe the evidence of climate change is fake than that the evidence of George Washington's existence was fake, and if I assume things are fake just because they could be, I might as well believe that nothing is real except myself, since this could all be a dream (I think, therefore I am, but there's no proof anyone else thinks), but that's ridiculous because with that worldview, it doesn't matter what you do; it won't make a difference to anything, whereas if other worldviews are correct, your actions effect something and therefore are important. See, if nothing else exists, I can do whatever I want, but in case my perceptions are accurate, I should assume that they are in order to improve what appears to be reality. Does that make sense? Anyway, it's also possible that plenty exists, just not what I think exists, but in that case I can't control the effect of my actions anyway, so there's nno point trying. We assume belief in reliable evidence because our actions will only matter if the evidence is genuine, and D) All the evidence, if we assume that it is true evidence, points to the problem most emphatically not getting better on its own and quite probably getting worse.

Yeah, sorry about that. I thought I had read all of it, but sometimes I skip over things by accident.

Now would not using the name I usaully use help me not get offended as easily or someone else not get offended by me? (I think I said that right. I'm not sure.)

I don't think I am going to make up a name just yet since you will already know who I am.

And just to let you know you can not offend me no matter what you say so don't worry about that.

Hmmm....we could do a book vs. another book. I went over and read the PJ vs. HP debate (which I sadly never got the opportunity to participate in, as I never knew it was going on) and it made me laugh so hard when I saw how hyper people got.

That was very funny. I never posted anything, but I read the whole thing. That seems like a good idea. What books would we choose?

What's your favorite Harry Potter book? Mine's the 5th by far! Many of the most interesting characters, like Umbridge and Luna and Bella, are introduced then, and it's the first book where things have started really... happening. The first 3 were sort of... preparatory. Then Voldemort came back in the 4th book, and from then on, well, it gave the books more depth. The 5th book wa the first to start that way, although it did, of course, have a beginning, middle, and end--more so than many books I've read, actually. And it was distinct, since it was the only HP book without an at least semi-happy ending. Not that I've anything against happy endings! If the endings had all been unhappy except the 5th's, I'd make the same point about it being distinct. Also, the later books are more well-written. Ironically, this was my least favorite Harry Potter book when I was younger because of its darkness and gloominess, but I really love it now.

@ EO--My favorite is the 7th by far (which I just finished today. Uh-mazing) I agree, I used to hate the 5th book (in fact after I finished it, I delayed reading the 6th and 7th for a couple years because the 5th had bored me to death), but now I enjoy it more. And I am so glad I read the 6th and 7th because they are SO. GOOD. And I more then excited about HP7 Part 2. Less then a month left!!

Me, too! But I'm even more excited about Pottermore! It's awesome, clearly!

Detc says bkby. The books are by J. K. Rowling; please read them, Detc. I hope you enjoy them!
