Yes, a very random topic, but DtE isn't that busy so I thought I'd make a new thread. Anyways, nails.
What are your nails like? Mine are usually really short because long nails bother me, and my piano teacher would kill me if I had long nails. But right now I'm growing my nails so I can paint them. Unfortunately, I only have two bottles of nail polish (which are both pink) and my mom doesn't have any nail polish. Sadly, I'll probably have short "stubby" (as one of my friends puts them) nails. Oh well. As I said before, long nails bother me. They just feel weird.
So, what are your nails like? Do you paint them? Are you good at nail painting? I'm terrible at it. I can only paint my left hand because I'm right-handed. And I can only paint a single colour, and I'm not even good at that... yeah.

Mine are very long, since clipping them bores me. I never paint them, though, mainly because of the smell. And the fact that I don't really see the point. I think painted nails look nice, though, so I suppose I can understand it it's just not something that I, personally, would ever want to do.

Well, I have a habit of biting my fingernails...but not to where they're terribly short. I can actually maintain a decent length. And sometimes I actually have to clip them since I don't constantly bite them. The biting habit isn't very serious. :) I have at least twenty different colors of nail polish, but I don't like to paint my fingers. The paint chips quite easily, and then it ends up looking bad. I always paint my toes though, especially in the summer when I wear sandals. I think sandals and open-toed shoes always look better with painted nails.
@Ima: You make me laugh. :) Clipping your nails doesn't take that long so how can you get bored from it?

Mine are the short kind. I bite them but I stopped recently and learned that my nails are just short. My sister has to cut her nails everyday though because she has the kind that grows SUPER fast. I'm not good at nail painting when it comes to my own hands. But if I do my sisters she gets tons of praise for them. (WARNING INITIATING GIRL TALK) Once I painted them turquoise with a silver border on it and it was SOOO cute!)

My nails are just regular nails. They grow rather fast, but are never very long since they always break off after they reach a certain point and they aren't usaully very short either. I have never painted my nails except once at a party thought almost all my friends do.

I have a bad habit of chewing on my nails when I'm bored. They often hurt because I bite them down quite far.
I don't paint my nails a lot because (1) like Ima said, the smell, and (2) because I don't get around to it. At the moment my nails are painted with something sparkly and a coating of clear polish over it. I would say my favorite nail color is purple... I don't paint well either, though I just learned to stroke in the middle and then on the sides.
For anyone who bite their nails, sometimes if you put polish on them ot tastes bad when you bite them and you stop. Does anyone else have nail biting advice?

@Elizabeth M.: I heard that soaking your fingers in lemon juice helps because it tastes bad, but the lemon taste would probably fade quickly. Maybe you could cut your nails really short so there's nothing to bite?
I still need to cut my nails. But maybe if I [try to] paint them, my mom won't notice.

@Olive--The problem with that is that I want to grow my nails out and if I cut them really short... Ah well... I'll have to stop!

I'm trying to grow my nails long, but thay're very weak, so if I bend them by accident (which happens often) the part that's bent falls off. I paint my nails every so often. Right now is one of those times where I have painted my nails and the polish is slowly coming off. The color is like maroony.

I bite my nails too but I'm starting to stop. If you do it unconsiously then try holding something in your hands, anything will do but something squishy works well like a small plastic bag filled with shower gel or shampoo so when you bring your nails to your mouth to bite you'll realize it. If you do it consciously like I used to it's mostly because you think they're uneven...then its best to stop biting 1 finger at a time. Like 1 week you stop biting your pinky nails, the next week you stop you're ring finger,then the middle finger, etc. It helped me stop. I hope these tips help!

@Christina- I normally do it conciously. I always think, "Oh that nail has something wrong with it." Then I start chewing and finally bite it off. I'm going to try your tips, though! Thanks a lot!

If you've long nails like mine, I don't advice picking up too much too much cat food with your fingers. By the way, my right index finger has a hangnail on the left.

Ow. Hangnails are awful. One time my hangnail almost got infected and it hurt really badly, but then I went to the pool and it was fine! :)
