My friend and

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

My friend and

My friend and I brought my family's canoe down to the public boat launch the other day.  The boat launch is barely a half mile down the road from my house.  It was a HOT day (wellllll.... for Washington :D) and the water and skies were crystal clear!  The best part about canoing on the ocean is all the wild life!  We saw seals pop up not too far from our canoe!  My parents have even seen porpoises.  Seals are a pretty common sight for us here but they're still an amazing thing to see... especially when you're sharing the water with them!  I especially want to see orcas, but so far, I've had no luck.  Starfish, barnicles, sea anemones, moon snails, plenty of crabs (under just about every rock!) sea lions, and fish that jump out of the water, and way more! Always so much to see on Washington beaches! (Not to mention the beautiful mountains in the background).

That sounds heavenly, R~D~!

Wow! That sounds awesome! I definitely need to pop by a beach if I ever go to Washington. And seals are common?!?!?!?! That's really cool! What's common here in Southern Ontario is geese. :)

Which can't compare to seals. :)

Forgot to add that before pressing Submit. And TOP!

Yeah, seals are pretty common.  Most times I go to the beach I see one.  But, like I said, it's still just SO COOL.  Hehe, you have alot of geese?  Thanks, Admin!  It definitely was.

I went to the beach on the 4th; it was quite nice! We only saw hermit crabs, but they were interesting. Besides, I went to Massachusetts in June and saw horseshoe crabs (I picked one up), whales, and seals. Sp yay!! And chipmunks. I'd never seen a chipmunk.

We have a chipmunk that runs around our backyard here in Illinois! If we startle him while he's eating spilled birdseed off the ground, he runs into the downspout extension of the house. He also fits through the fence that's supposed to be protecting our main flower garden!

@Ima: That's where I saw my first horseshoe crab, also! In MA!  Wow, you've never seen a chipmunk?  They're all around here where I live.  That's a very cute story Admin. :D

I live in Massachusetts and I've only seen chipmunks.  Well, I've seen horseshoe crabs and seals, but in the aquarium.  You're really lucky Ima!

((Spammy says bpye.  Why would I want to be a pie?  Sometimes you're a little kooky, Spammy.))

Hey, maybe he means "Buy a pie." Something delicious to eat! Pick your flavor.

We only saw the whales and seals because we went on a whale-watching tour. It was awesome! I recommend you go on one. We spent a lot of time on Cape Cod, so the horseshoe crabs were there. I'm crazy enough to swim in freezing water and enjoy it, you see.

Chipmunks just don't live in Austin or Houston. There are plenty of squirrels, but no chipmunks to be seen. It was nice to see them in MA.

@Robyn D.- That sounds amazing! DO you live near the ocean? Did you get close to the seals?

I went on a whale watch in Mass.! It was so amazing. The whales jumped in front of us and went under our boat. It was a pod of whales with a baby (or two). Truly amazing.

I went on a dolphin watch in MA :D  Yes we do!  Not the wide open ocean, but we live near inlets of ocean water.  Well, we got close enough to the seals to see their faces, but not too close because it didn't stay above water very long.
