Travelling!

So, because of several circumstances, my family doesn't take the plane anymore. *sobs* and the last time I left Ontario was four-ish years ago to take a ROAD TRIP to New York.

It was my first and (probably) last road trip. Ever.

Anyways, does anyone here travel? I'd love to hear your tales.

For me, I've gone to New York City. My family went to the Trump Tower thing and I expected to see Donald Trump there... (I used to watch The Apprentice.) I didn't go to any Broadway shows though.

I also used to go to California for the summer every year since I was four-ish. I went to Disney Land all the time and went to Universal Studios and on my first upside-down ride during my last visit.

You guys?

Olive, I might be coming to London, Ontario for the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships! But my friends, family, and I won't decide until we find out how much it will cost for tickets and hotel rooms. Prices not set yet.

I have been to loads of places around the U.S, though I've never been outside the U.S. and actually don't remember most of the places I went due to the fact that I was very young at the time(s). I must warn you before you continue to read, there are very seldom times when we go on vacation and someone doesn't get hurt and/or scared half to death.

1. When I was 1 1/2-ish I went to Washington D.C. with my parents. I don't remember if there was any injuries/scares there......but I don't think so.

2.When I was 2 1/2-ish I went to San Francisco with my parents and my Dad's immediate family, and my dad's dad (Grandpa Steve) broke his foot on like the first night.

3. Also sometime between when I was 1 and when I was 3 my mom and her mom took me to Idaho to visit my great-grandma and great aunt. That was the trip on which I (being very short) fell out of a very tall bed and had to have a cast on my leg due to the fact that I sprained it horribly.

4. When I was 6 and my sister was 1, we went to Hawaii with our parents and Dad's whole extended family. I ended up almost drowning and later finding a cockroach in my hair. Plus mom's wallet and our camera were both stolen out of our car.

5. When I was.....I think 8 or 9......Me and my sister and our parents went to Oregon, and we witnessed a girl falling off the high-dive at the pool and smashing into the concrete. (Luckily she survived, but she had to get lots of stitches.)

So, all in all, our family has had *sarcastic voice* wonderful vacationing experiences. Just kidding. They're not that bad..........and there were always more good experiences then bad ones....though our family has always had lots of crazy stories to tell whenever we got back home! ;D

@Admin: Really? In London? That's *uses Google* two hours away from me. Oh. My parents don't love figure skating enough to drive for two hours. :( But it's cool that you're coming here! I'm sure you'll have an awesome time! :D

@Kim A.: That's... interesting. :P And she smashed into the concrete?!?! *shudders*

Yes, London. In March 2013. We can drive there from Illinois.

@ Olive: Yeah, it was pretty bad. Thankfully the girl was ok, though.

I've been to Texas (where I live), Louisiana (which is rather nice), Illinois (which is beautiful), Florida (I didn't get to do any of what I wanted, unfortunately, so I won't judge), New Mexico (very nice), and Massachusetts (AMAZiNG!). i've never been outside the US, though.

@Admin: That's so amazing that you're going to actually see the World Championships!!!  I haven't been watching figure skating as much as I used to (I used to watch it back when I actually figure skated), but I'll make a point of trying to tune in and watch.

@Kim: Wow, your family does seem to have bad luck!  Glad that everyone turned out to be okay.

@Olive: Well, I travel quite a bit.  The last two summers, I went on cross-country road trips, which were amazing, and this summer I flew across the country, but did take some pretty long drives in between plane trips. :)  The summer road/plane trips started here in California and ended in New Hampshire, where I went to a fantastic chamber music camp.  And on my road trips, I got to see a lot of great American treasures like Yellowstone National Park, Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Mammoth Caves, and Wall Drug.  Yes, Wall Drug is an American treasure.  For those of you who don't know what it is, Google or Google Image it.  I can't really give it justice by explaining it. ;)  During spring break a few years ago, my family went on this great camping trip up the California coast to see the Redwoods and it was so fun!  I got to see this magnificent canyon, Fern Canyon, or as my mom calls it, "The Most Beautiful Place in the World."  She had gone there as a kid and wanted to take me there.  And we ended up seeing a lot of other gorgeous places in addition to that.

In addition to traveling around America, I've been to Europe several times.  My mom used to have a job where she'd travel quite a bit, so I got to tag along with her a few times to Italy and Switzerland and France.  Then, just last year, I went on a school trip to Venice, Saltzburg (where I even saw a Mozart and Schubert concert in an old and beautiful fort!), Vienna, and Prague, which was so much fun.  I just love the ancient beauty of European cities!

So I do travel quite a bit.  I love seeing and exploring new places and learning what they have to offer.  Nice thread, Olive!
