Favorite fantasy animal!!

Favorite fantasy animal!!

OK, I'm just creating this because I'm bored.... but name it!

Mine is dragons.

Dragons? Big dragons, little dragons, in the middle between dragons. Red dragons, green dragons, blue black and purple dragons. Orange dragons, gold dragons. Happy dragons, sad dragons, mentally confused dragons. Drama dragons, super dragons, very big fat dragons. All dragons rule!!

Also, vampiric mermaids/merpeople/ people with fish features are pretty cool.

Top!! I didn't know there were 112 pages on DTE!

That's because there are 113.

I suppose I like dragons... I like Patricia Wrede's definition of one, at least. There are so many ways people have described dragons, I don't know if they're likeable or not.

GIANT TARDIGRADES NAMED OTTO! Oh, wait, those are sci-fi. Hippogriffs, then, definitely! I love most fantastic beasts, though. I'm also quite  partial to snidgets because of my Pottermore Username.

Oh dear.

Let's have a list! I love lists, they pander to my inability to make executive decisions!

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER, and with the understanding that some of these don't exactly meet up with the "animal" side of the query:

• Swamp Dragons. Because they are adorable. Because Sybil Ramkin loves them. Because they explode when they're overexcited.

• Tatzelwyrms and amphipteres are the other two "subspecies" of dragon that I have a deep fondness for. Not that there's anything wrong with "traditional" dragons, but these two in particular are fun.

• Vampires! To be specific... Discworld vampires. Even more specifically, the Black Ribboners. Yes, yes, the Magpyrs were all very well and good, but all the psychological training in the world can't make up for the fact that, at the end of the day, they were still obsessed with blood and not other, more productive things.

• By the same token, Discworld trolls, dwarfs, orcs, golems, zombies, Igors, and werewolves. Just... the Discworld mythology in general. We'll leave it at that, because if I get really started on the Discworld then we'll be here all night.

• While we're on the subject of truly excellent bodies of work, can we have a brief cheer for H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos?

• Ditto the Slenderman mythos.

• Basilisks and/or Cockatrices. (And/or because whether they are the same, or different but related species, varies from author to author.) Need I really explain this one?

• The Weeping Angels deserve a mention. And the Vashta Narada too. And whatever the flurp House was.

• ...and the Silence. "Silence will fall when the question is asked," indeed. Thanks for ruining HG2tG, Moffat.

• While we're on the subject of Doctor Who, and moving away from the creepiness that is Stephen Moffat, the Adipose. most adorable aliens ever y/y?

•...For that matter, Time Lords. For the record, not that it's important, my head!canon dictates that Mary Poppins is a Time Lady, and Vetinari is a Chameleon-Arched Time Lord. it is the only explanation that makes sense.*

• Kappas have always fascinated me.

*See my notes in the I'm a Doctor... thread for further details.

@Ima- GIANT TARDIGRADES NAMED OTTO! That was hilarious. Your love for tardigrades is lovely! :)

I like mer-people, hippogriffs and; I somehow have a thought jam at the moment. I will get back to you.

Thank you! For the record, there is a book with a giant tardigrade named Otto in it. He also sings telepathically and is from outer space. The book's called The Search For WondLa by Tony DiTerlizzi, and it is amazing. I heard about it from ZNZ, and I was rejoicing before I even read it. It'll be a trilogy, too, and there'll be a movie!

Syrens all the way. And to anyone who didn't know, syrens are like mermaids, except they have scary fangs, webbed hands, reptilian eyes, and very dark personalities. And they have beautiful voices that they use to lure sailers to their doom.

MERPEOPLE!!!!  And fairies, to a lesser extent.  BUT STILL, MERPEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!

@SC: I find it amusing that Endey is a slayer if you love dragons so much. :) Also, I love how you put dragons in the llama song!

@Snake: Are you the person who wrote that story about syrens on Inkwell a while ago? If I remember correctly, the author used a pseudonym. That story was amazing...

As for my favorites, these are probably the top 5:

1. Definitely, without a doubt, DRAGONS!! Especially the ones that aren't evil, double especially the dragons in the Septimus Heap series, and triple especially Xell!

2. Probably syrens or mermaids. I think that goody-two-shoes mermaids are too sugary and sweet (and sugar dissolves in water, after all), but syrens are a little too evil. The ones in Never Land are awesome. :)

3. Do hobbits count? I love hobbits. They're so... hobbity.

4. *Insert every other creature from Lord of the Rings here*

5. I'm having a hard time deciding between phoenixes, centaurs, and naiads/dryads. I like them all equally. Oh, and satyrs, too. The choice is so hard!

P.S. What is a tardigrade?

@Alexandra: 1. Yes I wrote that story. :)  2. I do think syrens are kind of evil, but they look really cool and make for a great novel. ;)   3. I love that you said "they're so hobbity." LOL!! :D

Pixies are cool, but fairies are not.....(and yes there's a difference between the 2 you can ask me about it if you want.)

Dragons are pretty cool....

I pretty much agree with Alexandra on the syren/mermaid thing.....

Phoenixes are SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! XD

Who doesn't love vampires?

Were-wolves are also AMAZING!!!!!

Snakes w/ magical powers are super awesome (like me).  ;)

I like real, old-fashioned vampires well enough, but most people these days associate them with Twilight so I didn't list them. Why must this be!? Werewolves are pretty cool too. You know, I just watched the third HP movie (Prisoner of Azkaban [Did I spell that right?]) and I think they did an awful job of Lupin as a werewolf. He wasn't really wolflike at all, more kind of... I don't know, reptillian? I'm ranting now. Ignore me.

I have some more to add to my list:

-Hippogriffs

-Boggarts (Snape in a dress! XD)

-Pixies

-And, on a completely different note, shadow-stealers from Peter and the Starcatchers. Completely random!
