RR!  The catch

RR!  The catch is, though, that whatever I write is the last sentence.  We'll work our way backwards towards the beginning.

Grey took Miranda's hand. She quickly slipped it out to go up to the throne.  Since Verona had perished during the ill-fated quest,  it was finally hers.  'Good riddance, mentor,' she thought.  Xander gestured the wand and the coronation was complete.  As the tiara appeared on Miranda's head, the land finally received the just ruler it had been waiting so long for.

O.o

Wow.

The room was full of people, and they were all looking at her. She raised her eyes and saw Xander standing at the head of the room in a set of brilliant blue robes. "Go, honey," her mother called tearfully. "I know you'll do fine."

I LOVE THIS IDEA.

Miranda paused at the great oaken doors. Through them was the last stage of the coronation, and the throne that had been waiting for her since she was born. Through them was Grey. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves. Pushing open the door, she strode confidently into the hall.

This is going to kill my brain. :p

Attendants buzzed around Miranda, piling her hair up in elaborate curls and unbending all the creases in her dress. They all chirped praises at her.

So this was why Verona had always been so conceited. Too many niceties. Ha! Miranda swore not to let it get to her head.

"Are you ready to go, future queen?" Miranda's mother said, grinning. Miranda nodded and, despite the protests of the attendants that there were still too many invisible creases in Miranda's dress, she walked out of the room, down a hall, and paused at a pair of great oaken doors.

(See how I sewed in part of Ash's post? Oh yeah, like a boss :p)

This is awesome.

Miranda arrived at a stone castle, drooping with weariness. Someone led her to a room and she slept for what seemed like days. She awoke when her mother came and embraced her.

"Daughter! How good it is to see you! Come,we must get ready for your corination."

Her mother led her down a richly furnished hallway, with blue carpets-and diamond  chandiliers. They stopped at a room, and opened the door. Attendants with curling irons, hair spray, hair jell, and elegant clothes. The attendants started buzzing around her like flies.

As Miranda rode through the rain, Sala her horse reared.  A wolf crossed her path.  It stopped, stared at her, and moved on across the path that was quickly descending in status into a mud pit.  Even as she left Doomdwood and the lights of the castle were moving closer, she still felt as if those eyes were boring through her skull and into her deepest, most personal thoughts.

Miranda felt the heavy bronze key turn in her hands. She shoved her shoulder into the stone wall. Clunk. It moved, very slightly, but moved all the same. A glint of silver registered in the background. Not elves, she thought desperately, although it was useless. The elves lived here, after all. Please not elves I've had enough to deal with today. Where was Sala?

"Sala?" Her voice echoed through the underground cavern. Only elves.

Miranda returned to the wall with renewed vigor. She heard a whinny, and the huge chestnut mare came barreling out of the darkness, the body of her late mentor on the saddle. Miranda could see the whites of the terrified creature's eyes reflecting the greenish light given off by the subterranean moss. "Sala!" she commanded. "Stop!"

The elves were approaching, stone weapons in hand.

The horse obeyed, but not before skidding into the wall, broadside. The stone slid away with a crunch, and daylight poured into the cavern. All Miranda wanted was to rest, after her death-defying journey in the Cavern of Elves. But she knew that could only lead to a very painful, drawn-out death.

Miranda mounted her steed, and charged Sala out of the cave. She could have sworn she felt a sharp point miss her closely. Her horse's hooves beat the grassy slope, carrying her and Verona away from this nightmare. Straight into a summer storm.

Perfect.

With her heart in her mouth Miranda ran into the hole in to the tree, the words of her mentor ringing in her ears, 'Only if the master of the tree wishes it, will it give you what you need.' Miranda had thought it was stupid at first but now... She slowly stretched out her arm and reached in, "Please..." there was a hiss and Miranda felt something strike her hand; she bit her lip and then felt somethingpressed into in.

Withdrawing her hand, Miranda saw a large bronze key. She smiled, before turning around and running to the stone wall where her horse and mentor had disappeared. She slipped it into the keyhole and pushed; it didn't budge. Miranda pushed harder and felt the key turn in her hands...

Sorry it's pretty silly, I didn't have any good ideas.

"And don't forget to use your hankie!"  Those were the last words her mentor gave her before she journeyed into the realm of the elves.  Unfortuantly, the senile wizard was also her only hope of survival in the cavern.  Miranda was destined to become Queen, but first she had to prove herself before she could take on her royal duties.  If the tree's spirit agreed with her, she would be given the key (her mentor said to look for signs, it might be a metaphor from legends past) to her rise to power.  No one had ever chosen a coming of age quest more difficult than hers, and she had to succeed, or be destroyed.

Miranda was practicing her studies when her mentor looked up from a book.

"Miranda,it is time to go on your quest to prove you can be queen."

Her thoughts were a whirlwind."Now?" she thought, "On the otherhand, how good it will be to get away from Verona, the mean, stuckup mentor."

But she didn't say that. She knew she had been preparing for this for a long time.  " I will get ready at once," She murmured.

The next few days where a whirlind of activities, getting her ready for what she had waited for.
