Chatterbox: Inkwell

Role play

Hey everyone! I got a really cool idea from another Inkwell author and I want to put it into action!

So the whole point of this is to make a story with characters made by different people. You can jump into the story whenever there's availability. In case this doesn't make sense I'll put differently. We are basically making a story written by a bunch of people who made up their own character. There are just a few rules.

1. You may only make one main character. You are allowed to add minor characters here and there in your segment.

2. You may not control other people's characters. You are allowed to make other characters respond to each other during a conversation.

3. Please use common sense! I mean don't like type the couch sprouted wings and flew out of the house. Let's get this thing started!!!

Janine trudged along the dirt road. With every step her feet disturbed the dust and clouds of the grainy stuff got in her face. It's horrible considering the place I'm going now, she thought as she approached the marble doors of a palace. Janine stiffly knocked. "Owww!," she said. The door had definitely bruised her knuckles. Abruptly, a tall woman with a thin angular body stepped out. "Get out of here girl!" she snarled."We don't need any more garbage in the palace!" To Janine that hurt worse than her wound. "M'am I was wondering if there was a servant position to be found here?" Janine mumbled. "Yes," the woman said shortly, "but the master must inspect you. I suppose I'll have to take you there then you ungrateful piece of filth!" Jeez, Janine thought, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. She was led in to the most beautiful place in the world! The walls were a deep crimson with golden drapes hanging from large French windows. Portraits of what seemed to be kings and queens were hung up in a certian hall, all of them beautifuly crafted. After what seemed like a wonderful eternity they came to a stop at the throne room. The woman poked her head in. "Your Highness there is a girl here asking about a sevants job!" Janine peered through the keyhole on the door and almost fainted at what she saw. It was even more spectacular than the rest of the corridor! Purple walls inlaid with precious gems, two massive thrones apholstered in gold velvet with mahogony legs. Behind the thrones were silken drapes sewn with pearls. Janine was so caught up in the splendor of the room that she didn't notice the king until he left his throne. He slowly approached Janine. He was a tall man with greying corkscrew curls and his eyes oh his eyes were icy blue but there was cold and cruel about them. Something that made Janine unsettled. "What do we have here?" the king chided. He circled Janine. Suddenly, he pulled at a lock of her long brown hair. He began to prod her and invade her personal space. "Walk girl!" he commanded. Janine stood her ground she wasn't just some animal up for sale. When she shook her head he slapped her. The blow stung but not enough for her to cry. "She'll be my personal servant! Lead her to the quarters!" And with that he left.

Question: What is the storyline here?

Anyway...I'll join. Just please, an outline.

Name: Sadie Price

Age: 16

Description: Straight dark hair, cut short according to regulations. Blue eyes, very pale skin from not being allowed outside. Medium height. Fairly strong from lots of work.

Personality: Distant and moody, but friendly if you get on her good side. As a child, both of her parents died from a fever. She was given to the earl. To earn money, the greedy earl sent her to work for the king. Has been a castle servant for eight years.

The new girl walked in.

She looked nervous. They all do. Usually they've just been manhandled and abused. Brought to the servants' quarters, they expect palace accommodations.

They're disappointed.

"Isn't this a stable?" The girl said, dismayed.

"Yes and no," I replied. "It's an extension of the horse's stable. Pick a bed. These four are occupied." I gestured to indicate which beds I meant.

"Oh," she said, discouraged.

"Don't be so grumpy. It's comfortable once you get used to it."

She stared at the two hay bales covered with a single heavy, coarse wool blanket. "I'd rather sleep on the floor."

"You do that. I'm sure the rats will be grateful for the meal." Okay, maybe I was being a little harsh. It's my nature. Friendliness leads to friendship, and friendship, invariably, leads to betrayal.

"There are rats?"

"Only a few. I was exaggerating."

She sighed and sat down on the blanket. "Are you one of the servants?"

"Yeah. I am. Sadie Price. Pleased to meet you."

"I'm Janine." [@ Caroyln M.: Last name?]

She stuck out her hand. I hesitated, then shook it.

"Sorry I was acting like a wimp a second ago!" Janine said sheepishly. " It's just the king has made me rather jumpy." Janine looked about the stable trying to figure what to say next. "Did the king whip you or something?" Sadie asked. "No but he slaps harder than my old master and that's saying something!" she replied. It was getting late and Janine hadn't eaten in two days and the grumbling was getting loud. "Do you want something to eat or...", Sadie mumbled. "YES!" Janine cried then stopped herself, "I mean yes."

"Follow me."
