POEMS POEMS POEMS

POEMS POEMS POEMS YAY POETRY...I don't even know what's up with me today. Anyway:
the art of lying
she hides everything
from everyone.
when she needs to talk,
she turns to strangers
looking for the hope
that she can't find in herself.
her parents yell
because of this,
you should trust us
we love you
stop pitying yourself
she can feel their disgust
her habit of lying
prevents her from
getting help.
she lies oh-so-sweetly,
no. I'm fine
I don't need help.
and they all believe her.
she can only tell the truth
to the strangers, because
she knows that
there's no way she
is as important to them
as they are to her.
her parents are still screaming
don't tell strangers your problems
don't make them worry about you
it's not normal
but they aren't listening to her
she lies to the people
she doesn't trust
and she doesn't trust many people
in real life, only the strangers
 but they don't count
not according to her parents
or anyone else.

So...what did you think of my poem? I'll post more poetry later if I have the chance.

I feel very strange indeed.

When I saw a poem called the art of lying, I thought, whoo! I can probably relate! Do your parents really yell at you? That's horrible. I feel like dissecting this poem and talking about each couple of lines, but I won't.

Literary wise, it has a very teenager-ish feel.

I'm glad you liked it. You can dissect it if you want to. I don't mind.

This poem was origiinally more about the lovely "strangers" on the internet who have helped me cope with my depression. That is to say, it was originally about you guys, and my tumblr followers. Now the yelling part holds more meaning for me, because my parents triggered my episode last night.

Thanks. It's the only semi decent poem I've ever written. I'll generally be very happy with a poem immediately after I write it, but soon after I think it's the worst poem I've ever seen. I'm still pretty happy with this one, though.
