No Camp NaNoWrimo

No Camp NaNoWrimo for me this year! :( I didn't realize I have to be 13 in order to do it, or else Nano could get in trouble w/ the authorities, so I created an account. Then True told me I must be 13, so I cancelled my account. But, if my birthday's August 13, will that be close enough for me to do it in July? Please say yes! Have fun doing it! And good luck! And remember: I'm "Mag Fan ." on YWP (just w/o the "  " ), so be sure to buddy me and NaNoMail me on there!!!!!!

Yeah, you probably can. I don't think your exact age matters so much. Heck, I don't technically give an age (well, I say I'm 130, so...) because I don't want people knowing. I think it's just a thing they do cause they don't want to get in trouble with parents because they don't have admins monitoring all the cabins and forums, so they can't control everything everyone says. But yeah, I bet you can go ahead and join! It all probably really depends on if your parents approve. If so, then the "age limit" doesn't really matter.

I think you would have been fine to do it this April. I know Gollum and I just cheated and said we were 13. Obviously that was a while ago since we're both over 13 now! I hope you do it in August! And I hope we can get all the CBers in a cabin together. I didn't get any of them :(

Mag Fan, you could probably still do Camp NaNo. I know I did it when I was 12. I had a conversation with my parents and we decided it was okay. If you feel like it's lying or you might get in trouble, you should not do it. But if you're not sure, I suggest you do talk with your parents! I know it sounds cheesy but they helped me make my decision and I'm sure your parents would help you do the right thing if you still want to do Camp NaNo.

I tried to re-sign up for Camp NaNo, but it said that my e-mail address is already taken! What should I do?

The law says that it's against the law for any website to take info on kids younger than thirteen. I don't know who can or will get in trouble if they find out (not that I really think that they will) but I'm going to step back from Camp and adult NaNo for now. I'm also busy revising my old novel, so I doubt I can make it . . . it's 50k on Camp, right? If so, there is absolutely no way I can write that much . . .

Well, unless you tell them that you're under 13, there's no way that could find out, and no way that they could punish you besides deleting your account. I don't think anyone would get in trouble.

Also, in Camp, you can do whatever worcount you want, as long as it's not lower tham 10,00.

Okay . . . but still, it's lying to the law. I know they probably can't find you out, but it's like sticking a pair of wire cutters in your back pocket in Texas, cover up the pocket, and go out into the streets. You know it's against the law (yes, it is ),there's almost no way you can get caught and yet you do it because you can.

Also, my parents have to let me use their e-mail adress to sign up, and I know that they will not approve. So I guess I'll join you next year! :)

As stated by Ivy, I lied for both Camps last year, and the world didn't explode.  I think they just have it as a safety net, and also I think you're not allowed to have an email when you're under 13 (well, I guess I'm building up quite a big Internet crime record, here) so they assume you won't use your parents.  Just saying, I haven't had any problems with being "13" for a year.

I think it's awesome that you're working on your other novel, though, and look forward to seeing you next year!

Correction: You can have an e-mail when you're under 13; until you're 18 your parents need to approve that you can have one, and they need to pay like $.50 when you first create it. I've never had an e-mail; my mom won't let me. I'm using a friend's in order to do YWP.

For some emails, like gmail, you need to be 13. I had to say I was 13 to make my account (I was 12, almost 13 and my mom was ok with it).
