BLIZZARD'S TALE
"Who would believe a little blue-white dragon instead of their leader?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A long time ago, when dragons ruled the earth, there was one dragon who stood above them all. Mangoth was a magnificent, strong, large, dark green dragon with eyes like diamonds. He led most of the dragons, except for the rogues, who preffered to be alone. Though he was well-respected and all his commands were obeyed, Mangoth was both powerful and wise, and he ruled over the dragon kingdoms with care and saw that no dragons would ever be mistreated. He had a good mind and a pure heart, and those are very valuable qualities in a leader. However, though dragons have lifespans of over 100 years, they all die eventually. Mangoth passed away peacefully when he was 144 years old, dying in his palace where he was born.
Sadly, not all dragons had the love for peace that Mangoth possessed, and the next leader, Juton, was truly and utterly evil. Dragons don't have the system of heirs that humans have; whoever completes the Fourteen Challenges is chosen to be leader. These challenges involve tests of agility, fighting skill, wits, bravery, and magic usage. Juton cheated in four of the tests, using his dark powers to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles. However, his cheating was so subtle that only one dragon noticed it.
That one dragon was named Blizzard, and for a good reason. His scales were almost a blinding shade of white with a light blue tint to them. Blizzard noticed Juton's cheating the first time it happened and payed close attention to him after that. Sure enough, Juton cheated three more times, but no one noticed it. Though magic can be used on the battlefield or anywhere else, it is forbidden to use any sorts of "superpowers" in the Fourteen Challenges. Dragons must rely solely on their wits, their instincts, and what they can do with their own paws and wings.
Either Juton didn't know or didn't care. Blizzard was almost positive that it was the latter, but either way, he knew he had to find some way to report the cheating. But who could he report it to other than Juton himself? There was the Council, but at the moment, it only consisted of three obnoxious dragons who would always take the leader's side no matter what. In some cases that was loyalty, but in others, it was just being stubborn. The only person Blizzard could think of was Tarlong, his best friend. But what could that little red dragon do? He didn't really have any authority, though all dragons were respected. Perhaps he could just spread a rumor...
But if the rumor reached Juton, he would be furious and present some lie to convince the rest of the dragons otherwise, and possibly imprison Blizzard afterwards. Because who would believe a little blue-white dragon instead of their leader?
This is the beginning of a sort of novel I'm working on. But it has no chapters, so I guess it's more of a fable. It's gonna be long, though! I'd love some input...
