I thought of

I thought of starting a word club. Every day, I'll post a new word, and we can also discuss words, word etymology, etc. You have five days to sign up. Once the deadline is here, you can't join.

We prefer, Bookbug, that you'd welcome comments on the words from anyone, whether they have signed up or not. We'd like everyone to feel welcome, including any newcomers who may not log on until after your deadline. Wouldn't that work just as well? When comments arrive to be posted, we don't automatically know what thread they are going on anyway.

Sure, that's fine with me. I didn't mean to sound rude or anything. Sorry, everyone.

It's okay Bookbug, we had a long of sign-up thingys for a while until someone recommended it be open to all. But I'll certainly join. I love words, all kinds of words--big words, short words, quirky words, sad words, words that make you laugh and cry: words make the world go around.

Hey Everybody! This is a great new chat! Don't you just love literature?! I love words as well and maybe we can create a story using the majority of the words that Bookbug found at the end of the year? It's a friendly way that we can bring ourselves together! At school, people used to call me a living dictionary or thesaurus because I would use lots of big words when I wrote! Laughing Anyhow, I thought that would be fun! We can also share the stories that we may be writing currently or something like that! This is very fun! I have a word that I would like to share:

LOLLAPALOOZA

It means "an extraordinary person, thing, or event!"

Thanks!

The very first word of the day:

Curmudgeon: bad-tempered, difficult person

Curmudgeon doesn't have any known origins.

Hi! It's a really cool idea to post words as well as comments.

Word of the day: Offal

Meaning: the less choice parts of butchered meat.

It's pronounced the same as awful.

I've started a spelling notebook, since I'll be competing in spelling bees. I devide it into categories. One is "No origins". I have:

Bumicky

Gyascutus

Scrivello

Murre

Gremlin

Kentledge

There also a few others. Does anyone know of any words that has no known origin.

Word of the Day: Somnambulist

Meaning: a sleepwalker

Word of the Day: Ecchymosis

Meaning: discoloration of the skin

How come no one has been on this thread recently? Should I let it die out? It doesn't seem that popular. There's nothing really to discuss here.
