I don't want to be an awful jerk or anything, but as Tauriel doesn't exist in the books, would you please pick another character?

OK, I'm my oWN character! I'm an elf named Earane. (That's Brooke translated into elvish. I speak elvish fluently.) I am good at archery and I am smart. I am a Mirkwood elf!

In the dark of the night, when the owl flies over head and the standard swings in the breeze, all become one with the blackness, the souls of the weak dragging down the souls of the proud and the strong till the mesh into one being. Here the valiant and the just fight for freedom from tyranny, waging war with the creatures of the night. Here, any who can hold a sword can fight, any with a brave heart can prevail.  Eowyn lived in such a world, where the heavy footfalls of the mighty horses of the mighty horses of Rohan meant that there was some new enemy to be faced. But all the time, she was a prisoner, chained behind the bars created by those who wished to protect her. But dreams of valor passed through her mind, and when she awoke one December night, hearing a whispering in her dreams, she resolved to run and find a way to be free.

Lucky you, calling Eowyn.

*pouts*

I guess the only lass left is Arwen, so I'll take her. Nothing wrong with being 2000 years old, is there?

Okay, just realized that if we are going to be writing battles, I don't want to be be holed up forever in Imladris with my disapproving father.

I choose Faramir instead.

@ Forrest:

Check out the Tolkien/LotR fanpage here!  http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/blababoutbooks/node/140172

I'm sure it's fine that you just saw the movies; it's close enough to the books that I don't think you'll get too lost.

I'm creating my own character as well! She is the granddaughter of Galadriel.

Name: Silverenniel, the Lady of Silver

Appearence: Tall, with a graceful figure and red hair that reaches her thighs. Her eyes are startlingly silver.  Her face is one that could be a thousand years old, or newborn.

Personality: She is incredibly intelligent, usually wise, but inclined to be extremely rebellious. She envies the humans, she envies their emotion, their freedom.  She is an archer like all the elves, but her strength lies in her words. With a single command, she can inspire thousands to take up arms and run into battle. Undyingly courageous, if she has enough force, she can even stop the rush of oncoming enemies and bring newly deceased back from the dead.

Backround: After the Great War, when the age of men begins, she has to remain behind and rules the elvish kingdoms with her betrothed, Legolas.  She grows wise and kind over the course of her journey, and by the end of our story is a mighty queen, keeping the lands that were once the elves' from falling into evil.

You can't be Leggy's betrothed! He is..... MY PRECIOUS...........

Ok, how about he isn't yet betrothed? we'll figure something out. You can have Haldir. Hey, it makes sense! He's in Lothlorien, you're in Lothlorien. Legolas is in Mirkwood, I'm in Mirkwood.

If you get to have magic, I am a wizard studying under Gandalf!

Earane dashed through the forest, gasping for breath. Orcs, hundreds. Running in hunting packs. She had to warn Legola- she meant Thranduil. Yes. She was near her horse, Mithril.

"A' amin Mithril!" she called. Her horse ran up, and she swung herself on.  "Quel mithril!" she said.

I honestly couldn't care less either way. Just quoting what Tolkien wrote about Quenya the Sindarian at the very end of his books. As well, I don't think anyone would object to your being magical (most elves are) but it would be incredibly illogical to say you are a wizard studying under Gandalf:

#1 . Wizards are, and always have been strictly male. And Gandalf was never represented as a teacher, and is quoted in the book saying magic cannot be taught.

#2. This is Lord of the Rings, not The Hobbit. For the bulk of it Gandalf is "dead" or commanding great battles against the orcs as Gandalf the White. He is no where near Mirkwood forest. No one is anywhere near Mirkwood. If you want to be in the thick of the battles, you may have to choose a different character, like Everinne did. I believe Arwen is still available.

By the way, I just reread my post and it sounded really rude! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to sound rude... Will you forgive me Brooke E?

Haldir is DEAD! *weeps* Hold it, Haldir barely appeared in the book! Well, except to say that Sam breathed too loudly.

Everyone wants to marry Legolas, and everyone forgets that he and Gimli went over the Sea to seek the Undying Lands. As far as we know, he DIDN'T marry. I know that is the nature of fanfic, to distort things, but still. Isn't there some popular fandom belief that Legolas married one of Aragorn and Arwen's daughters?

Faramir~

I walked at the head of the other Rangers, our eyes constantly sweeping the green expanse of Ithilien as the Haradrim with their Oliphaunts made their way up from the South, heading to Mordor. We couldn't stop them, but it never hurt to cripple their numbers a little. "Spread out and stay covered," I said in a hushed whisper, pulling the deep hood of my green cloak over my face. Carefully, I nocked an arrow to my bow and waited until the lumbering army came close enough. "Fire!" I hissed, and there was a whiz of shafts that cut the still air.

Then my gaze caught sight of two curly haired heads peaking out from behind the nearby shrubbery. "Catch them; they may be spies," I cried, leaping out from cover with Mablung and Damrod. To my astonishment, I found myself faced by two Hobbits, each with a drawn sword in hand.

That, obviously, is from the part where Frodo and Sam first meet Faramir. I hope I kept it at least marginally correct.
