Lulu vs. Createsp

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Lulu vs. Createsp

Lulu vs. Createspace or Something Else ~ Any Preferences?

I want to publish a color book with a bunch of my art in it. Usually I use Mixbook to create photo books and things similar to that, but you can't SELL your book to other people with Mixbook (i.e. put it on Amazon or another like bookstore).

I learned about Lulu from Ellie, and I think that's what I'm going to use, but I still think it would be helpful to me and other Chatterboxers if people who have used some of these programs before could tell us about the pros and/or cons of Lulu, Createspace, or maybe some other program that's awesome but we haven't heard of it!

Thanks in advance, everyone!

When I self-publish my book (should be sometime around September yay!) it'll most likely be on BookBaby. They help promote your book and everything :D

As for a picture book, there was this thing I got awhile back that let you publish picture books... Pirate company? Something like that. I have heard of Lulu, and I'll go check that out. I've heard on Createspace that it's all right and not the best publishing, too.

So I checked out Book Baby, but it says that a book is $328 when I inputted 1 book with 100 pages! Why is it so expensive, or am I doing something wrong?

Yeah, it can be expensive. I'm just looking to get it out there, out there since I think BookBaby helps with those things. I hope mine won't be too expensive if I end up using that... Most of the time publishing is expensive, but if you just want the book to yourself/ a few friends, you can use Createspace.

I just did a book on createspace; it's a bit frustrating but good otherwise.

If you chose the free services, so is createspace.

Hey guys, I was actually trying to Google something about Lulu when I stumbled upon this post. I used Lulu in one of my college classes to self-publish a book and it was great! The professor recommended that we use Lulu, and I haven't had any problems with it. The books end up costing about $10-$20 per copy, which is very reasonable, and the publishing process is completely free. The people at Lulu are also willing to talk to you and help you out if you have questions. Good luck!

Thank you so much! It was very helpful to read that, especially from someone a bit older, like you! Smile

No problem! I published my first book when I was 13 and I want to make sure people know that you don't have to be a certain age to publish and that kids can make really great authors/artists. Good luck with your project and never stop doing art if that's what you love :)
