Unexpected Consequences! (similar to Hijack a Wish)

It has been said that even the tiniest of things can trigger enormous consequences--such as, the flapping of a butterfly's wings can start a hurricane in another part of the world. That is what this thread is about--a writing game about chain of events.

Each person will reply to another person's small event by turning it into a story about its "unexpected consequences", and then will post another small event. Cheesiness, weird things, unrealistic events, and humor are highly appreciated; after all, with effects this large, things are bound to get silly.

(Cheesy) Examples:

User 1: The orange hat drew the girl's attention.

User 2: Janice was so busy staring at the eye-catching orange hat that she neglected to notice the beginnings of the alien invasion. As she examined the neon fedora, a slimy creature had just enough time to creep to the shelf behind her and snatch the material it needed to construct the super-weapon before escaping. If only Janice hadn't found the hat...the threat to humanity may have never materialized.

Bob dropped a penny outside the store.

User 3: The 1967 penny that Bob dropped just so happened to be the very penny Lewis was looking for--the penny that would pay off his debt. And now that he had enough money to break his debt, Lewis could fully focus on his conquest of the world...

(etc)

Enjoy! The first event is:
