Jeremy Lee~

The water closes in over my head. I kick in a desparate attempt to keep my head above water. As my head pops out of the water, I gasp for a breath, flinging my wet hair out of my face. Another surging wave sweeps me under. I choke, as salt water fills my mouth. I glance around, recognizing some of the kids in the water. Samuel, Maya, Ashley.

Thomas~

I grab onto a large chest bobbing in th ocean. It's full of clothes that start to get wet so I empty it and it floats even better. I look around for survivors. There are some and I drag the chest over to them. They grab on and nod at me. I look around and see one last head, then it goes under with a scream.

I push of the chest and swim as fast as i can to the spot. Then I five under. The saltwater stings my eyes, making them water, but that doesn't help much. I see a blurred figure and swim down, against my body's will. My lungs start aching and i start spasming, my body trying to get air. I finally reach what I've identified to be a girl and grab her arm, then I swim up. My legs burn and don't want to function, but now, more than ever, they do. I kick up to the surface and pull the girls head up. She and I both cough rapidly. I put her arms around my neck and swim to the chest, the people there have added another smaller chest to it, held together by a peice of wet cloth. I throw the girl over it and she still coughs, but not as hard as at first.

Angel~

"Um..." I sputter, "We can't get anywhere on this doohickey. We have to swim."

The survivors, younger kids and one older teen, murmur as they realize im speaking the truth.

"And we don't have a motor for this crate, so we can't control it." I continue.

One boy inclines his head toward the half-dead girl. "What about her? I don't think she can swim."

"Someone will have to pull her."

Samuel~

"Mama! Papa! Jean Anne! Francis! Ruby!" I scream one after another. The blanket I was wrapped in when the ship sank is now soaking wet, and sticking to me. Choking sobbing, and... drowning. Every time a wave tosses me underwater, it is harder to get to the surface. Soon, I will not be able to hold my breath any longer, but all I can think about is my family. Little Ruby would never be able to survive in this sea I think, sobbing harder. Another huge wave pushes me, rolling and turning me in the raging water. The shock and panic numb me, and all I can do is let myself be thrown farther from the surface. My want for air momentarily takes over my pain. My whole body aches to come up for a breath, but then again... which way is up? In desperation, I start kicking and I push up, finding myself in between two waves. I gasp swallowing seawater as I do so. Somehow, the blanket managed to stick to me when I went underwater. There are other people in the water, clinging to the wreckage of the ship or desperatly trying to stay afloat on their own. "Mama! Papa!" I begin again; the screaming, the sobbing, the salt, and rolling under the waves in disoreintation. Then I am thrown down, and almost emmediatly, I gulp saltwater. I inhale it through my nose, and a pain, at first sharp and then dull, grows in my head as a result. I know I won't be able to make it to the surface on my own, when a hand seizes my shoulder and pulls upward. When I reach the surface, I cough up seawater, only to swallow more as I take huge breaths.

"You alright kid?" My rescuer asks. He looks about 14, with sopping wet brown hair (this is Jeremy Lee). I cough again, and manage to reply.

"Yes, thank you." The boy is keeping both of us above the water, but I know we won't last long in such rough seas. A wave crashes over our heads, and I clutch the edges of the blanket.

"This way," he says struggling to swim against the push of the waves. We shouldn't say many words, to save our energy, so I say nothing, and follow. He leads me to the spot where the ship sank. There are many pieces of it floating around.

"Grab one," he says. I drag myself to a floating water barrel, and hual myself onto it, blanket and all. The boy is holding on to a large fragment of wood.

"We need," he gasps, "to swim to shore."

"I-Island?" I ask.

"Yes. Close." He answers. I begin kicking and paddling from my barrel.

"Are there others?" I yell as a wave lifts me and then drops me with a splash.

"Yes. They are fine. We have to swim," he says. I can now see rocks sticking out from the water ahead of me. As I swim next to the boy, I look into his face. I can see longing and fear; my own expression. We keep kicking until I am exhausted. I feel like I am going nowhere, but the rocks that were once in the distance are now surrounding us. I push myself hard, kicking and paddling for eternity.

"There. Must. Be. Land," the boy says slowly, saving his breath.
