I am still getting used to this whole Steampunk thing, so this might sound a little like fantasy. I am trying to make it soud gear-sy

Name: Tigereye Cinkretic

Age: 13

Gender: Female

Human or Elf: Human

Appearance: Fiery orange-red, loosly curly hair, darker, tan skin and light brown eyes. She is tall and strong.

Personality: Tigereye is neither talkative nor shy. She is stealthy and can easily be angered.

Edvard~

Thrum

Bump

Thrum

Bump

The uneven rhythm jolts me awake.

Thrum

Bump

It's The Thrum, it must be broken or something. The city's mechanics should be working on it already.

Thrum

Bump

Apparently not.

The light above my bed flickers for a moment.  l kick off the blankets, and sit on the edge of the bed. Then the light goes out.

"Ug" l mutter, "The Thrum's broken for good." l grop my way to the door, and open it, letting the cold, grey light of dawn  into the small house.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After l eat breakfast, l dash to the Main Square, to the market. l would never be late for the market, Thrum or no Thrum.
There are so many things to see, from places so far away, strange and beauitful.  And the birds, mostly doves and parrots, but a few song-birds, cooing and chirping and singing. l would've stared at them for hours, if the owner of them hadn't told me to scram.
l wander about the market, looking at everything that caught my eye.
l examine a piece of pottery when someoneruns into me. l drop the pottery and it lands with a crash.
Tigereye~
"What were you doing? You were standing right where I was trying to race!" I practically yell at the boy in my way. The other village children are staring at me from the appointed starting line that I had not been able to cross.
"I would have won if you were paying attention!" He doesn't say anything, he just looks at me, and I roll my eyes. Finally he mumbles:
"The Thrum is broken."
"Well, what do I care?" I reply, still angry.
"Look-" he says, still mumbling.
"I'm looking," I answer. I stand there waiting, my fiery eyes boring into him. He frowns, and it appears he might be angry at me, but he only shuffles a little bit. I push some of the broken pottery towards him with my foot, and jog over to the other children.
"Let's do a re-run!" I declare.
Crescent~
The rumours are flying at the market. l don't belive any of them.
".....The Thrum is dead,....... All the mechanics are gone...... We'll all die here......"
A bunch of nonsense. Who would be gullible enough to believe it? It worries me that most people do believe them.
True, all of the things that are powered by The Thrum have been slow or stopped for a minute or two, but has the city gone into ruin? No! Absolutely no reason to panic.
l try to firmly explain this to all the people who stop by my cart where l am selling repaired clocks. Most of them don't listen and the Main Square in emptying fast.
A few more minutes, and almost everyone is gone. A boy wanders over to examine the clocks. l begin to launch my lecture on why there is no reason to panic, but he interrupts me. "You have no proof. You've probably been here since dawn."
"True, but--"
"There is reason to be concerned. All of the city's mechanics are indeed gone."
"l can fix things. l'll just march up to the castle and demand that they let me see what is wrong with The Thrum."
"Why do you think that they'll just let anyone come into the castle?"
l am almost shouting by this time. "How in the world would you know?"
A girl, drawn by raised voices, comes over to the cart. "Oh, it's you," she says to the boy, "the one who broke the pottery."
Oh it's you, the boy who broke the pottery," I almost snarl.
"I'm guessing you don't care about the Thrum either," he replies in a mumbly tone.
"No. I don't. If it dies and the power goes out, I will simply find somewhere else to live. What do I care about that old machine?" I retort.
"The Thrum is much more than an old machine," he argues, barely raising his voice, "and something is wrong with it."
"There is nothing to worry about-" An elf with pale blonde hair says confidently.
"Like I said before, do you have proof?" the boy asks. I stalk away, but I watch the elf and the boy from a short distance.
