Historical Fic. RP:

WARNING: You don't have to know a lot about history to do this RP. I will be posting background historical information.

Hey guys! So, I started a story, based off of one of my favorite movies, NEWSIES, and I thought about how much fun a Newsies RP would be. The story takes place in 1899, in New York City, at the time of the 1899 Newsboys Strike. If you join, you can take one of these character jobs:

NEWSIE: ages-7 to 17 years old. Your job is to sell The New York World, a newspaper run by Joseph Pulitzer. Newsies were mainly boys, but I will accept one girl newsie. Post a nickname hat suits you, as well as your real name.

RICH KID: Age 11-17. Your family knows Mr. Pulitzer, and you can choose to be for or against the Newsies strike.

FACTORY WORKER: Age 9-21. Your life is extremely hard, as you are just a kid, and can't go to school, because you have to work all day. Can be girls or boys.

NEWSPAPER WORKER: Age 29-60. You work by distributing newspapers to the newsies, and to try to shut the strike down. You are against the strike.

NEWSPAPER REPORTER: Ages 21-60. You either work for The World, The Journal, The Times, or The Sun. If you work for The Sun, you can report on strike news.

NAME: Willow

NICKNAME(S): "Will" "Eagle"

JOB: Newsie

AGE:13

N OF NEW YORK CHARRIE LIVES IN: Brooklyn, as she is one of Spot Conlon's newsies.

She escaped after inly a day, because she was so skinny, she sld through the bars on the windows, and climbed down to the streets. She ran away back to her old home by the docks. There, she was taken in by an old friend of the family's, Spot Conlon, who is only a year older then her. They both became newsies, and both her and Spot gained a reputation for being the best newsies in New York. Her dream, however, is not m qq.  Mo hawk headlines, it's to write them. She is very smart and loves to learn and read and write, and  a talent and a passion for it.

POSITION ON THE STRIKE: Will is all for the strike, and she was the one who convinced the Brooklyn newsies to help the Manhattan newsies with the strike, after spying on them to see if they had the guts to go through with the strike, and FIGHT!!

Please post if you want to join! We'll see how many people want to join before we start the RP.

This looks so cool! I've never heard of the movie Newsies, but I saw the musical and LOVED IT!!

NAME:Samantha Rey Allen

NICKNAME: "Flower" "Sam"

JOB: Rich girl.

AGE: 18

N OF NEW YORK CHARRIE LIVES IN: Is that supposed to say part? I'm not sure...

Okay, I'll assume that it is part, and say the Bowery, which is where a lot of rich people in New York lived.

BACKGROUND: She was born into a very wealthy family, and grew up with all the finest things money could buy. She is very well educated and, now that she is 18, her parents are looking for suitable marriage choices for her. But Sam is very independent, and has secretly been joining women's suffrage groups, and other attempts to bring the people of New York more rights. She is considering running away, and opening a home for the poor with her inheratance, though her family would never approve. She thinks Mr. Pulitzer and all of ther parents other friends are stogey old tightwads.

POSITION ON THE STRIKE: How could you deprive those children of heir rights?!

Will, I think you need to tell the people what the strike is about. Here, I'll write down what the strike is about, and save you the hassle.

Sorry if it seems like I'm trying to take over!

The newsies went on strike because Mr. Pulitzer wanted to find a way to earn more money. He decided the best way to do that was to raise what the newsies paid per 100 papers from 50 cents per 100 papers, to 60 cents per 100 papers. (That's 1/10 of a cent) The newsies thought this was unfair, because they were barely making enough to buy 50 per 100.

Sorry about the typos, I'm writing this on an iPhone.

Yes, you are accepted.

By the way, I saw the musical too! It was really good and I loved it!

NAME: Enrique Morales

NICKNAME(S): "Ricky" "Cat"

JOB: Factory worker

AGE: 13

(Part?) OF NEW YORK CHARRIE LIVES IN: Bay Ridge in Brooklyn (I've always wanted to live there)

BACKGROUND: Enrique's parents were originally from Mexico, but moved to Texas in search of more work. The pay in their agricultural job got so low they quit, and used up their little saved funds to travel to New York, where they thought they could find better industrial work that paid well and was guaranteed year-round. When they got there and settled in a small apartment, Ricky was already five, with a baby sister on the way, and the jobs, although slightly better, just couldn't make ends meet. As soon as he got old enough, Ricky started to work in the factory. Although he has a hard time keeping up with work and school, he's determined to study hard and get to a good college so he can support his family. He's nicknamed "Cat" by his friends at the factory because he's extremely nimble, always the one climbing up and fixing the machines when the slightest thing goes wrong. Sadly, though, he's discriminated against almost everywhere he goes because of his Hispanic background, sometimes even getting turned down from jobs or beat up because of it.

POSITION ON THE STRIKE: For it. His best friend is a newsie, and Ricky knows how hard times can be when you just can't earn enough money.

OK, that's it. Hope this can start soon.

Yes! Thanks for joining, Ricky, and welcome aboard.

It would also make sense that he was discriminated, because this was a while after the Mexican-American war, making him even more discriminated.

And yeah! Brooklyn FOREVER!!!!! Tell me who your best friend is. I might know him, and if I don't Spot Conlon (pretty much the most famous newsie in NY, and my best friend to boot) probably will.

Sorry guys, it is part. I'm typing on a iPhone, so there are a lot of typos.

Sorry, character inconsistency! When I said Ricky studied hard and wanted to go to a good college, I meant he does so on his own, not going to school (he's a factory worker).

This won't make much sense until the description is posted, sorry :P

Good for you, seeing the movie!

SPOILER AHEAD. DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN NEWSIES.

Confession: Every time I watch the part where the Delanceys take away Crutchy, I am literally screaming, "SERIOUSLY! SOMEONE GO SAVE CRUTCHY! WHAT ABOUT CRUTCHY?"

Crutchy is just a sweet little cinnomon roll that just must be protected at all costs. WHO'S WITH ME?!?!
