Wolves of the

Wolves of the North RP

Plotline: There are two packs of wolves in the north, The Mountain Pack, The Forest Pack, and The River Pack. There are a few smaller scattered packs in the Valley of Bones, and a few lone wolves, but the three afore mentioned packs are the main ones. The Mountain pack is, as you may have guessed, in the mountains. The wolves live in a camp, and the individual wolves have rocky caves as their dens. The River Pack, as you may have also guessed, is located near a river, called the Wet-paw River. The wolves there dig out little hollows in the riverbank, or under tree roots. The Forest Pack, as you may guessed as well, is in and around the forest. The wolves' dens are in patches of sheltered trees, or small dugouts in the ground. The mountain wolves are a light silvery white, the River Wolves are a richer, darker, tone of gray or black, with small bits if brown sometimes (like the common gray wolf) and Forest wolves' coats vary from a light tan and white to darkest tawny, but no darker. The Forest wolves are smaller and more peaceful than the others, and the Mountain wolves and River wolves are rivals, and always have been. The valley of bones is forbidden for all wolf packs. The forest pack is also smaller, meaning they don't have as many wolves. The rival packs are larger, both in number and size. Each pack's hunting grounds go only as far as their territory, and on from that, they'll have to fight for it. But recently, a  rumor has been going around the packs that a forest wolf was caught wandering around in the Valley of Bones, and killing off lone wolves that wouldn't follow him. No wolf knows so far why the strange wolf wants wolves to follow him, or where they're following him to, but they know it isn't good.

Spots: I have room for 19 more CBers besides myself. There will probably be room for more people after that, but they must have permission to join before making a charrie. That being said, we will start with a maximum of two Charries each. Newly joined CBers that join after the RP has started, or is full, will only be permitted to make one, unless I say otherwise. I need a pretty even amount of people in each pack, so I'm going to say the limit of people in each pack is six. Here the spots and ranks for each pack:

Alpha- leader, one per pack

Beta- Alpha's second in command, assistant, and usually mate.

Hunters/Huntresses- third rank down, three per pack.

Patrol Wolves- fourth rank down, patrol for enemies and are the first to fight. Three per pack.

Mothers- usually the mother will have a different rank, aside from being a mother, but will be excused from her duty for the care of her pups. One per pack.

Pups- pups will not find their rank until the age of eight moons. Two-three per pack.

Omega- absolute lowest on the scale. Serves the other wolves and is looked down upon. One per pack.

The spots above are in order of rank. There may be mates or litter mates within a pack in different ranks, without being a parent. Inter-mating between different packs may be done, although the packs strictly forbid it. Punishment awaits all who eat before a wolf ranked higher than them, or who disobey the alpha.

There are also spots for Lone Wolves, or wolves in smaller packs. The smaller packs are: Thunder Pack, Rock Pack, and Scar Pack. There are only four spots in each pack, and these packs don't usually flourish because there aren't enough wolves.

The ranks can always be changed by challenging and fighting another wolf, or being promoted/demoted by the alpha. When a new alpha arises, they usually choose a new Beta, but this isn't always the case.

If you would like to be someone else's charries' mate/friend/sibling/mother/pup, that is perfectly fine. In fact, for this RP to work, wolves have to be connected like that. But be sure to ask them first.

@Leeli, what if we start now? We have enough charries for the thread to have a really strong start. The empty spots could be filled with NPCs that everyone kind of shares.

Ok, since no one else seems to be joining, I think we can start now! People can still join later, if they want, but we are starting!

~Cresent Moon~

Nose to the ground, I put all my focus into the rabbit's scent trail. "Rowan!" I call. "Go around the bush! We'll corner it!" My hunting partner darts around the bush, and a half-second later, I'm sinking my teeth into its soft flesh. I bite into it's life organ, and the rabbit goes limp. "Good work. Take this back to the prey pile and guard it while I hunt. Three rabbits and one squirrel won't be nearly enough for the whole pack." I say to Rowan Thorn. "On it." She calls as she trots away.

Sorry it's so short! Out of time!

~Firepaw~

I look out at the River. The hunters are out for prey, the crickets sing merrily, and the pack is in a good mood. I can hear humming coming from the burrow closet to mine.

Then, I  hear a loud howl. I remember.

Two wolves, out for a chat. A bear lunges at one, and it slips over the cliff. The other jumps onto a small outcropping sticking out below him.

Tameclaw's howl hasn't changed. I run to where it's coming from. There sits Tameclaw. His red eyes glare at me, and his silver pelt shines. I growl.

"Oh, Firepaw, no need to do that, my friend. I want to talk to you. I have put my weapons away-" here he gestures with his tail to his claws, sheathed, and his mouth, where a glob of sticky resin has glued the back of his jaw together.

"Alright, Tameclaw."

Oh, didn't you hear? I don't go by that anymore. I go by Bloodysnout now."

"A stupid alias. You are-and always will be-Tameclaw to me."

Tameclaw looks a bit angry. "Never mind names. May I come into your camp? It's awful cold and dark here. I won't kill anyone."

I think for a moment. Tameclaw never could break a promise. I trusted him so back when. He couldn't break a promise now...

I let him come through the camp.

Droplet

~~

Pawing at the ground, I vainly attempt to trap the beetle under my paw as it scuttles along the dark earth, dodging my clamping claws. Finally it disappears under a root, and I growl with frustration as I snuffle around for it. I didn't have much time to search for another buggy victim, though, as a large and heavy shape crashes into my side. Yelping, I rolled over and tried to throw the shape off, but it was no use. I thrashed in anger as my muzzle was shoved into the dirt, but I couldn't escape no matter how hard I tried. Finally I gave up and whimpered in defeat, and gradually I was released.

"Did you see that, Waning Moon?" Constellations barked as she danced around in victory. "I pinned down Droplet and he couldn't even move."

"It's not my fault," I muttered, shaking out my pelt in annoyance. "You cheated! You pounched on me from behind. I didn't even have a chance to defend myself." Constellations stuck her tongue out at me, her white-speckled pelt rippling.

"Whatever, Mopelet. You just don't wanna admit I'm stronger than you."

"Am not!" I whined, though I hated my tail for dropping in between my legs. Constellations sneered at me, though her eyes brightened when Waning Moon got to her paws, stretching out her tired muscles.

Stargazing, who had been lying still, now bounced to her paws and trotted over to Waning Moon, eyes sparkling. "Are we going outside the den?" she inquired. Waning Moon nodded graciously, nosing her way out of the tree roots. Stargazing scrambled to get out, but Constellations pushed past her and led the way out, her nose in the air. Waning Moon glanced back at me, twitching her ears.

"Droplet, are you not coming?" she asked, eyebrow raised.

"Whatever," I said under my breath, turning away. "You go on. I don't feel good." Waning Moon hesitated, but finally decided I'd be safe enough in there with the othesr pup-mothers, and turned and followed Constellations and Stargazing. I buried my broad head in my paws, hating myself for being so weak against Constellations. No matter what I did it was always never enough. Not fast enough, not strong enough, not smart enough.

I heard Constellations excitedly barking outside, and assumed that she was putting on a show for Runningstream, the beta wolf. Not ambitious enough, I thought with a twinge as I remembered being berated the other day for shirking from playing with Constellations and Stargazing. Sighing and standing up, I snuck to the back of the den and wriggled out the back through a secret knothole I had discovered that none of the others pups knew about. Popping out, I found myself on a backpath leading away from the Wet-paw and somewhere toward the Valley of Bones, which Waning Moon had only told me about. I'd never visited, because I'd always been caught before I was able to go investigate it.

But this time no frowning pup-mother appeared, no Stargazing to tattle on me. So I began to pad down the the trail, enjoying the swish of dewy ferns against my fur. Suddenly a sharp new scent came to my nose, harsh and unfamiliar. Sniffing, I suddenly identified it with a flash.

Forest Pack scent? But... it's not somehow, carrying an undertone of the Valley of Bones. Curious, I feel my body fill with sudden energy, I scampered along and followed the scent, wondering about what wolf it could possibly lead to.

~~

Sorry if I controlled Waning Moon or her pups too much! Also, in case you couldn't tell, Droplet is smelling the lone Forest Wolf's scent, the killing troublemaker.

~ Redclaw

I trot into the clearing. It was a well known resting spot for loners like me. There were ferns all over the place and a small spring. There was another loner there too. A half fox like me with a black spider like pattern on her back. I walk up, "hello, you're rather young to be wandering alone..." she looks up, startled,

"I... ummm, well..."

I laughed.

"No need to answer, I get the feeling your story is something like this, one parent was a wolf, the other was a fox. Your pack never accepted you so you left?"

she sat down, more relaxed,

"Almost, my mother was a fox, she ran away with me and was killed by the mountain pack. I have been on my own ever since."

i look at her sadly. So many of us loners were descriminated and left on our own. Our wolf blood wanted to be in a pack but our foxlike appearance drove animals away.

"why don't you travel with me?"

i say.

"Hybrids like us should stick together."

~Spiderpelt

"Hybrids like us should stick together." The red wolf says softly.

I nod.  He was right.  It wasn't like there was anything in life I was needed for.

"What's your name?" He asked gently.  I bowed my head.

"Spiderpelt." Wonderful mother.  Name me after a hideous insect.  Great first impression.

"Redclaw."

I smiled.  When was the last time I'd smiled? Before I found mother?  A corpse?  That was ridiculous, I hated mother.  She hated me too; she always looked down at me like I was some disgusting dirt clod.  I was more than happy to see her dead.

But something held me back.

Maybe she was just sad.  Sad because of father?  But would I have dragged my pup off moments after their first step? Would I have forced her to walk miles just because of some stupid mountain pack, just because of some stupid love.  I couldve been a wolf.  A beautiful accepted wolf.  With no worries and food everyday and a pack who loved me.  But instead Im a hideous fox wolf with a spider on her back.

"Are you ok?"  I jumped, then realized it was just Redclaw staring at me with a quizical look on his face.

"Oh, yeah Im fine."  He raised an eyebrow.

I looked away, my ears burning.  STOP IT Spiderpelt! You need to stop moping about mother. She's gone, its just you now.  No one telling you what to think, no one shunning you for being ugly, no one beating you after bringing back a mouse instead of a rabbit, no one.  Just you.

"Hm, well its getting dark and we're way to close to the valley of bones."

My ears perked.

Silent~

A light breeze rustled the leaves in the trees and stirred up a few insects into the wide gray sky. A light breeze may be good to cool a wolf off, but it was also good for covering Silent's footsteps. Not that he needed help. As his name implied, Silent was rather good at staying silent. Especially when what he was doing was somewhat dangerous.

At the moment he was trotting through the woods just inside the Mountain Pack territory, searching for food. He knew there would be consequences if he were caught in their territory, especially while hunting, but the in Valley of Bones prey was scarce, and he was hungry. He would just have to be careful.

A rustling in the undergrowth alerted him to the presence of a groundhog, and he dropped down low to the ground, stalking it. A moment later he snapped it up in his jaws and killed it by quickly slashing it's neck. He pulled at it hungrily, the smell clouding his nose. He licked his lips as he finished, and shook himself off, ready to leave. He buried the bones to the groundhog near a tree. In other words, he didn't hear the patrol pack sneak up on him, or the hostile growl of a Mountain Pack wolf.

Just as we're about to go into camp, I hear a rustling noise and a whimper. Droplet? How many times do I have to tell him that he needs to be less curious?

Droplet suddenly is sitting in front of us, his eyes as wide as they can go.

"Firepaw!?"

Tameclaw tuts solemnly. "You mean Great Alpha Firepaw. When I am Alpha of you all, if you forget that holiest of titles, you'll be dead before you can start running, little pup."

Droplet's thought process is almost tangible in the air.

"I-I thought you were our Alpha. Not a spy."

"I'm not. It was this wolf's-" I gesture to Tameclaw- "idea to come here and try to convince me that I should give in. Leave, Tameclaw. You are not welcome here at all. I regret even thinking about bringing you into our camp."

Tameclaw snarls. "O, Firepaw, there will come a day when I will come into this camp and give you something much worse than your scar. I shall give you the blow of Death."

Like that he is gone.

sorry, I haven't had the chance to post much. Here's a shorty. Also, does anyone want to be Solstice's mate? If not, I'm just gonna make one.

~Solstice~

Stretching, I walk over to the food pile. Alpha takes his share, and we watch. When he's done, I'm next in line, and my stomach feels as if it will cave on on itself. Bearing pups has made me doubly hungry, and I'm not ashamed to jump in and eat as much as I want. Pregnant mothers always get second dibs. I let the warm meat slip down my throat, and lick my lips for the last time before heading off toward my den.

Oh my General Fithyhoop, that is so short. Well, I'm out of time, so I guess we'll just have to make do.
