This is an Intriguing RP Title!

When I say what it's about, keep reading. Don't click away. I promise it'll be brilliant.

This is a Middle Colonies-- specifically Pennsylvania-- RP!

WAITWAITWAIT COME BACK!

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I'll tell you everything!

And for the people who do know, I'll tell you anyway, just because.

Pennsylvania was one of the four Middle Colonies when England was still in charge. It was a proprietary colony-- owned by a certain person, who, in this case, was called William Penn. He grew up in England as a noble, but then found out about the Quakers.

Quakers are a group of Christians who believed that everyone was equal. This is one of the most important things you need to know. They were ahead of their time in that they believed that women and men were of the same status; they didn't discriminate by race, ethnicity, or religion. In Pennsylvania, all were welcome.

Pennsylvania's main city was called Philadelphia. Its streets were all at right angles, arranged in a grid-like pattern; the verticle ones named by number, the ones horizontally by trees. The buildings were rather spread out in case of fire.

Both girls and boys could go to school in Pennsylvania. However, they didn't learn much grammar, and did not study "dead languages" such as Latin or Greek. William Penn believed being out in nature was much more important.

The Pennsylvanians had one of the best relationships with the Native Americans than any other colony. They were the only people to never break the treaty they signed. They were peaceful trade partners; if there was a dispute, six people from each side would come to a conclusion peacefully, and then it would be forgotten.

There! You just had an entire social studies unit explained to you. You're welcome.

On to the RP!
Because the Quakers were so accepting, you can literally be anything you want. Your character could be Christian, Jewish, Islamic (although this is highly unlikely, I don't recommend it), or Athiest. They could be from anywhere in Europe, Africa (again not likely), or America (more on that later). I know! Super helpful!

You can have a maximum of two charries.

Remember, this is historical fiction. If I see any inaccuracies, I'll point them out; definitely no magical powers or attributes (except for one exception-- again, more on that later).

Yes, you can be a Native American! In fact, I'm hoping for it, so we have two scenes set and running at once. If you would like to be a soothsayer/medicine man/whatever, yes, you can be; that's the exception I mentioned.

If you have any questions or I missed something brutally obvious, poke me!

On to the charrie sheet!

This sounds really cool, but I don't know much about the whole plot (sorry, I'm from Oregon). Would it be okay if I posted a charrie a little later?

I'm not from Pennsylvania either! Actually, I was inspired for this RP from a Social Studies unit, funnily enough. Mostly everything you need to know I summarized up there.

This is such a good idea, St! I made a single write off of a socal studys unit, and it's still going, if anyone cares to top it...

Anywho, Id love to join! Here we go....

Name: Ray Collins

Age: hum...14?

Gender: M

Apperance: Short blond hair, bright blue eyes, rags for clothes, short for his age, skinny because of lack of food.

Personallity: Humble. Accepting. A theift. You know, sneeking around, steeling peoples money from their pockets, acting like the poor little boy he is and begging for money, the usual. But actually quite sweet to those who get to know him.

Ethnicity: White blond boy from somewhere in Europe.

Religon: Athiest. Belives deeply in his opinions, no one can make him believe otherwise. He is very protective of it. You can offend him eaysily (you've been warned. Please dont make rude comments that could offend. I'm Athiest myself, so please keep that in mind while writing.)

Background: Born on the streets, parents died of diseases, been an orphan since 6 and has lived on his own (maybe with friends) ever since.

Other: Naw, I think thats it.

Again guys, please be careful while posting. I know that most of you are Christian, and may be really against me being Atheist. So please sencer your posts and dont get mad about it over the CB. Or in general. Ill sencer mine to and make sure i dont offend anyone. Thanks.

Oh, yay! Someone who likes history as much as I do!

Name: Birdsong "Song" Edwards

Age: 13

Gender: Female

Appearance: Her father was English, and her mother was Native American, so she has pale skin and blue eyes, but also, long, thick black hair that she keeps in braids, and the face shape of a Native American. She was raised by her father in the Quaker community, so she dresses like the English, but she definately has traces of her native community in her, which makes her a unique persona.

Personality: She loves music and nature, and is very quiet and shy. She is not often comfortable with children of her own age, but prefers to look after small children, and talk with the elders of her community. Someone who is not Quaker might rule her 'pecular' but in truth she is just an introvert.

Ethnicity: Her father was English, and her mother was Shawnee. That's all I'm going to say. (Her father is a kind man, don't worry)

Religion: Quaker

Background: Her father had spent many years living with the Shawnee Natives, after an incident in his Puritan community had sent him running into the woods. There he found the Shawnees, who, though cautious of him because many English had comitted atrocities against them caused them to be wary (and rightfully so!) There he met the woman who would be come Song's mother. Her mother died when she was young, only giving her the name Birdsong before she died, and her father, who loved her mother very much, was heartbroken. He movied to Philedelphia, where he became entralled with the Quaker society, and brought Song up there under the Quaker religion.

Other: @St Owl, please tell me if you find this unrealilistic. I have allways been entralled by white/American Indian relations, and wanted to try an unusual character out. If you find this too OP, please tell me, and I will change the character.

Okay, here goes!

Name: Katherine (Kate) Albright

Age: 14

Gender: Female

Appearance: Dark, medium-length brown hair that she usally keeps tied up out of her face, and stormy gray eyes. Tanned skin from working outside a lot, and doesn't smile very often. She's strikingly pretty, but a scar runs down the side of her neck due to an accident that everyone refuses to tell her about.

Personality: Keeps her thoughts to herself most of the time, and opens her eyes and ears rather than her mouth. Most people would trust her with their life after they get to know her. She takes life very seriously, and to strangers it looks like she doesn't have a sense of humor, but those who are close to her know otherwise.

Ethnicity: White/Southern European

Religion: You could call her a Quaker, but she doesn't really have a specified religion, and her family stopped attending church many years ago.

Background:  Her parents were both Italian, and lived in Italy for most of their lives before moving to the States about a year before she was born. She was a twin, but is now an only child after her sister's death a few days after their birth. Her mother is very ill now, and she fears the death of another family member.

Other: That's about it!

Looking good, Linnea!

I'm just going to remind you that they weren't called the States yet. It was probably just an automatic choice, but remember in the RP to refer to them as the Middle Colonies. :)

Oh yeah, that's right. Thanks for the feedback on that, I'm still figuring out the storyline. I'll be sure to remember that when we start the rp.Smile

Well, either we haven't gone over that yet, or you're thinking of a different place xD

As far as I know, there weren't any major squabbles/wars between the Pennsylvanians and the Native Americans, and mostly they trust each other.

submitted by St.Owl, age Recarnated, Everywhere
(January 14, 2017 - 10:13 pm)

Not specifically in Pennsylvania. Just that there was a general mistrust during/after the 7 Years War for obvious reasons... it seems implausible that Pennsylvania would somehow be exempt from that.

submitted by Zeus, Idaho
(January 15, 2017 - 2:30 pm)

I think they were, actually. There were squabbles in the "Lower Counties of Pennsylvania," which were generally treated as their own colony (and eventually became Delaware in 1776), but relations between the Pennsylvanians and the Native Americans were always excellent; that's a very clear and important part of their uniqueness. I don't think even Rhode Island could say as much about their relationship.

In short, I'm sure there were tensions, but they wouldn't have been extreme. How about we say this is before the Seven Years' War, to save ourselves any more conflict?

Okay, anyway,  I'm sure you know more about this than me.  I'm  really better at the Québec side of the Seven Years War, and my school mainly did Massachusetts history. I know about the time period in general,  but not specifically about Pennsylvania.

All that to say,  that's good.
