This is for anyone with any questions having anything to do with writing! Remember, don't be afraid to ask for help, it doesn't make you dumb, it only increases your knowledge! As for me, I have quite a few questions myself!
1. Charrie development help please!
2. So, in one of my books, The Five Doors Series, my MC is going to go off to a mysterious school that her parents know nothing about. And they're fine with it.
Okay.
Super Unrealistic, right? So, reading through my book I realized I needed to fix this, as well as some other things. For one, my MC's family is WAY too normal and boring. Sure, the book's a fantasy that starts out realistic, but I don't want Via's family to be that stereotypical.
Since her parents are in the way, I thought about killing them off. But I don't really want Via to be an orphan. One option would be to have them missing or kidnapped, and as a subplot Via has also been trying to find them. The advantage of this route would be that Via could live somewhere exotic like in a treehouse, thus making her more interesting,a nod out of the way of police and such. I certainly don't want Via in an orphanage!
Anyway, I'd appreciate any ideas you guys have about either of my questions.

Sure! The parents thing is perfectly fine, I have friend's parents who are like that and don't really care. You could also have them be addictied to something, so they wouldn't really care or be able to process anything, really, about your MC. It also gets rid of the normal family thing you were trying to avoid.

What about having parents being BRAINWASHED so they don't care? Ok, that was a crazy idea, but brainwashing is super cool, plus then there could be evil brainwashing people who are after her... for charrie developement, when you write something they do, think why they do it and write it down. If one is too contridicting or you have a different backstory for every action, just change their action to something personality related!
