Cyberpunk RP

Cyberpunk RP

Okay, this might be a bit of a strange and confusing idea but stick with me okay?

So essentially this RP takes place in the far future, where nearly everything has been digitalized. Technology has become so advanced that the virtual world has combined with the real world. In the beginning, it was amazing. People could become whatever they want, the economy flourished, and it was peaceful. Of, course there was criminal behavior(Mainly small amounts of hacking into the system), but it never resulted in a death. No one had died in a long, long time.

And it stayed like that for a while. Until something peculiar happened. The monsters that used to reside in their nonconsequential videos games escaped, becoming... consequential. The hacking became more often, and harmed the system more than it used to. People were disappearing, and people were dying. Lots of people were dying.

Multiple criminal organizations claimed it was their doing, but most people believed they jumped on the joyride and climbed their way up the ladder. Something else was causing this, and no one knew quite what.

Either way, this utter meltdown ( called The Revelation, or Armageddon, or, if you want to be Cheesy, Deathware) had caused a complete meltdown of the government. Cities became dark, not the colorful display of lights they used to be, and people shunned technology. Most people tried to get rid of their technical enhancements, and the parts of the world that were too far digitalized to bring back became just pixels and errors. But even if you did want more technology in your life, you probably wouldn't get it. Password: Cipher. At this point, only the richest and most powerful could grab their hands on it, if they chose to. The middle class was destroyed, and you were either left in the rubble or strengthened yourself in it. In conclusion, it was complete and utter chaos.

So, with that said, make your character and see if you want to help our world or ruin it.

(Oh and by the way, if you want some sort of artificial intelligence or cyborg like character go right on ahead! Just don't be op or bland. I don't want everyone to be a cyborg.)

(Also, limit of two characters for each person. At the moment I don't have a limit to how many people can join but that might change.)

Name (Most names at this point you would consider rather strange, and some of the rebellious type go for cheesy names from video games or references to technology. Others, however, name themselves less strangely, like Robert or Jessica, to differentiate themselves from technology):

Age (Diverse Please. I don't want a bunch of characters around the age of 13. I would prefer older.):

Gender:

Appearance (Include clothing and technological enhancements if any. Also you can make it slightly fantasy like if you like since the world is still fairly digitalized.):

Personality (Detailed please.):

Skills/Occupation/Technological Enhancements/Weapons/Etc. (Most people before the Apocalypse had a small implant (I'm calling in a regular implant for now on) that allowed them to better traverse the digitalized world. If you hate technology you probably won't have this, which might mean that some parts of the world become inaccessible or you're just unable to have as unreal powers as others. Oh, and the digitization that gave some people powers like telekinesis or flying is now more broken, which means it stopped being as useful or it created errors and may have mutated you.):

Like or Dislike Technology? (You probably won't have technological enhancements if you don't like technology unless you couldn't afford the procedure to get rid of them.):

Backstory (Would prefer this be detailed.):

Other:

Name: Ray Mortimer

Age: 39

Gender: Male

Appearance: Graying Dark brown curly hair, and longish sideburns. Gray eyes that are covered in wrinkles and shadows. Short, could be considered muscular. Furrowed brows. Wears dirty overcoats over ties 40s or 50s in nature. (His entire outfit pretty much looks like something from a Detective Show from the 40s or 50s) Might even wear a fedora or something.

Personality: Deliberate, Independent, and could be considered quiet. Realistic and focused on the job he needs to do. Honest and very loyal, and a bit of a perfectionist. Is very sympathetic and almost sweet if you get to know him, which is so hard since he barely talks out of his job. Calm, and quick thinking.

Skills/Occupation/etc.: Has the regular implant. Works as an independent detective/bodyguard for anyone who pays (He doesn't have the money to choose what sort of people he works for, which upsets him but he can't do much about it.) Has the AI Samus to help him. Good with guns (great aim), but he uses ones that are a bit behind technology wise. Good detective skills (attention to detail, etc.) and athletic. Surprisingly good cook.

He likes technology.

Backstory:

Before the apocalypse, He lived a fairly simple life working as a detective (Most AIs weren't far enough yet to replicate a detective's job), solving the few crimes that still existed in this world. He married a kind and beautiful woman by the name of Oriana, a game designer working in a video game company called Lightscape, and they had a child together named Aero. Aero was absolutely brilliant, rising up in the technological world at the age of 11. She pioneered better AI, and created the holographic robot Samus who would be one of the first robots working in detective work. However, then came the apocalypse. Aero was one of the first to die, destroyed by one of the monsters that escaped from Oriana's own game. It utterly wrecked Oriana, driving her insane. Ray would wake up one day and find her gone, never to be seen again.

Ray became lonely, a shell of what he once was. Becoming desperate for his family, he searched his daughter's files and workings, hoping he could come across anything that could help. Then, by some miracle, he found a file that included all the memories his daughter had. Why they were there (Perhaps for a secret project she was working on) and how she had even gotten them there, Ray would never know. But he decided he would implant the memories into Samus, hoping that it would override everything and bring back her daughter.

It almost worked. For a while, at least. Samus was the cheerful and intelligent child he remembered, and she started working to save the world almost automatically. But the new world... Broke her. She was brought into a world without a mother, without a government, and with absolute chaos. She hated it. She refused to affiliate herself with these humans, who wrecked Earth. So she didn't. She now goes by Samus, and never mentions Aero ever again.

So Ray was stuck with the shell of his former daughter, and the desperate goal of trying to find his wife.

Other: Likes card games.

Name: Samus 9.2 (Real Name Aero Mortimer)

Age: That's... Hard to describe, for an AI.

Gender: Female

Appearance: Curly golden hair half shaven on the right. Tall, thin, and pale. Her eyes are an unnatural navy blue, almost looking pixelated and artificially textured. light brown golden glasses. She always wears a blue cocktail dress and appears in the shape of a full-sized hologram-esque form (Looks slightly transparent and doesn't have a solid form, but still looks incredibly realistic.)

Personality: Sarcastic, witty, and rude. Very intelligent and quite blunt, always telling the facts. Not friendly in the slightest, and not good with feelings. She's stubborn, and strong-willed, and would have a good moral compass if it weren't for the fact that she hates everyone. Wants a job to be done, and will do it herself. Perfectionist.

Skills/Occupations/Technological Enhancements: She's an AI, and a hologram, which means she can go through walls and people can go through her. However, she's connected to Ray's implant, and she can't go that far from him without losing connection and shifting back.She's able to hold and record a lot of information, can analyze items to small details, and do a lot of stuff you would assume a robot could do. She can't hold objects or anything else for that matter, however. She's just light. She helps Ray with his detective work. Is able to sing, understand different languages and speak in different languages.

She is literal technology, so she's all for it.

Backstory: See Ray

Other: Can't think of anything else.

Hm...that’s odd. I put a part in the original post that said

~~~~ FIRST PERSON POV ~~~~
to show I was switching, but I guess it didn’t make it for the copy and paste. Oh well. Just letting everyone know why there was a sudden POV change.
Hi Danie! Is it too late to join? This RP sounds very interesting! If it is, then sorry; I'll just read from the sidelines.
We haven't gone that far in, so it's totally alright!
Here are my slightly late charries!!
Name: Jinx
Age: 19
Gender: female
Appearance: Straight black hair cut about an inch above her shoulders, though it doesn't hang completely la no and straight, but has a slight curve to its body, almost like a bob; black eyes; pale skin; usually wears all black
Personality: Moody, intensely shy in a very reserved, almost brooding way, has HUGE trust issues, a terrible liar, incredibly good at telling what other people are feeling. When she chooses, she can be extremely sarcastic and often comes across as surly; slightly short-tempered when stressed or distracted. When she thinks something is her fault, she always feels like she has to fix it, and is impossibly stubborn in this instance.
Skills/Occupation/Etc: Jinx has the regular implant. Now. Although she is human, this criminal organization (Maybe Enyo's?) used her in the RedArena online thing. Like, it sorta split her conscious; she had a foot in both worlds, so to speak. Now that all this tech stuff has crossed the borders, she doesn't have the split conscious thing and she's lost her powers that she has in RedArena Online. She works for a tech company in the programming division.
Backstory: See skills/occupation/etc. Also, Jinx was an orphan.
Password: Cipher
Other: Open to shipping!
Name: Calypso, calls herself Echo.
Age: No one really knows. She's been around for a while. She appears to be a late teen or young adult, but her eyes seem... sadder. Like She's seen too much.
Gender: female
Appearance: Long, wavy auburn hair, typical redhead complexion, a few freckles scattered across the bridge of her nose, delicate features, soulful, amber-gold eyes with almost a sad expression like she's been through a lot. Has a pinkish purple lily-like flower pinned in her hair, and wears a white, sleeveless, Greek toga dress with gold borders, and a gold arm cuff on her right upper arm. I am working on a picture of her that I'll post later.
Personality: She often seems wistful, and a little sad. Kind of ethereal in her demeanor. Echo is very shy and distrustful of humans because of how they used her before, and she's compassionate and sensitive.  She can manipulate people very subtly but is terrified of doing it and hates it with a burning passion. Echo is very emotionally fragile when it comes to her past and it's really, really, really hard for her to talk about it.
Skills/Occupation/Etc: Echo has the regular implant, and she is an AI. She was made by a criminal organization to spread computer viruses and stuff, but shortly after the Armageddon when they made her start killing people, she ran away because she couldn't stand the pain they were controlling her with and stuff but anyway, she's sorts on the run now.
Backstory: See Skills/Occupation/Etc.
Password: Cipher
Other: @Danie, do you want to ship Ray and Echo? I think a romance could be really interesting for them.
I’m not Danie, but you do know that Echo’s in her late teens and Ray is 39?
submitted by @Aspen
(January 19, 2018 - 8:38 pm)
Echo is actually a good bit older. She appears to be about 20 or so, but her eyes look... sadder. Like they have seen too much. She's been around for a long time. I mean, she's not really OLD exactly, but she is in fact a good bit closer to Ray's age than anyone would suspect.
(January 20, 2018 - 8:45 am)
Yea, I agree...even if she was in her 20s, that’s still 10-19 years age difference.
(January 20, 2018 - 12:39 pm)
Either way, Ray is still pretty beaten up about Oriana, and I don't think it would be possible for him to be in any romantic relationship.
Dante-
The man was there for her.
Dante crouched in the shrubbery outside the corpse formerly known as Heap's home, red hair floating like so many phoenix feathers on the air beside her. He pulled up a hologram and spun it in the air. Dante's eyes widened as she looked at the older picture of herself. She looked so blank.
So empty.
Malcolm.
Dante stood silently up from the brush and pulled out a Fling Gun she'd been saving. It created a small net that held one subject to the ground for a maximum of two hours, or until the shooter pulled it away.
Dante found herself running toward the house, breath spitting in dark bursts from her bared, sharpened teeth as she ran toward the window.
Malcolm Kyng.
Talia's back was to the window, but Ray saw her coming. He tried to draw his gun just as Dante's foot connected and shattered the pale azure blur of the window pane.
WESLEY.
She fired just as he did. Her net wrapped around his legs, bringing him to the ground, and his bullet lodged into one of her outer circuits. Her left leg spasmed for a moment before her circuits rerouted around the wound, repairing themselves temporarily.
MALCOLM.
Talia screamed and backed against the wall as Dante stalked toward her, flames flickering at her fingertips. Talia slid down as Dante readied a burst of flame.
RASCHKE.
"Please, stop-" Talia began.
Dante froze.
Years ago.
"Please. Stop."
Cowering in a corner.
At the mercy of her programmer.
Dante's hands shook and the flame died away. She froze, staring with panicked eyes at Talia.
She didn't realize that Ray had gotten out of the Fling Net until he tackled her from behind.
Thanks, Danie! Sorry for the late reply, but here's my character: Also, when was the Armageddon in relation to "now" in the story? 2 or 3 years ago?
Name: Pixel Cecily Montgomery (After the Armageddon, she goes by Cecily, her middle name, because Pixel is technology-related and she now hates technology)
Age: 11 (Is this age allowed? Or does she have to be older? I saw that everyone's age was around 20 or 30 so I decided to make a younger character, just to change things up a little bit)
Gender: Female
Appearance: She has lots of highlights in her hair (naturally brown, but there's not that much brown left in it ianyomre after the highlights), and some strands are metallically colored. Her hair is slightly wavy and flows down past her back, but it's very dirty because she's been homeless for years. Also, she's very thin and slender, but wiry and nimble. She has big, hazel eyes. She's usually seen covered in a layer of dirt, with bare feet (toenails and fingernails artifically, permanently colored aqua), wearing a dirty dress (what she wore on the day her family fled the Armageddon) plus whatever else she can find.
Personality: She should be traumatized after what she went through as a child, but she kind of locks all her memories away, pretending everything is alright. She keeps her real self locked up tight inside. She's very quiet around others, but talks a lot to her dog, Bot (see backstory), murmuring quietly to him. He can't talk, but he makes normal dog-like comforting sounds back. She's a very fast runner, very nimble and can squeeze through small spaces. She doesn't like to have to rely on others or trust others anymore (only Bot), because technology used to be pretty much her life--until it broke down and destroyed her life. When she's locked up, she'll do anything to escape.  Before the Armageddon, however, she was a very charming child, cute and adorable, smiling all the time and running around. That part of her hasn't emerged for close to 5 years, and she doesn't know if its still there or not.
Skills/Occupation/Technological Enhancements/Weapons/Etc.: She has the regular implant, and also lots of designs on her skin that she got before the Armageddon (they aren't implants, they're more like tattoos. She was supposed to begin getting more implants at age 10, but then the Armageddon happened. So these designs don't make glitch like Talia's implant does). She has golden thread-like things around her arms and legs like a web, or a criss cross. Her fingernails and toenails are painted permanently an aqua/turquoise color--her favorite color. However, a firm layer of dirt has covered them, so the aqua color is muted. Also, she has lots of highlights in her hair.
Dislikes Technology (even though she has a LOT of technological enhancements; see backstory)
Backstory: When she was younger, her family was SUPER rich (like, one of the richest families there were). She got a whole bunch of designs on her skin/tattoos, and her family was a huge fan of technology. When she was around 7 years old, the Armaggedon happened. In one of the erasing-rushes (Basically when technology started glitching and a whole city would be wiped out in a wave of whiteness. Like, a panicing mob of people with the city behind them disappearing into empty pixels. Did this happen in the Armaggedon? If not, then technology killed her family in some other way), her parents were wiped away, killed, and she was left with her baby sister in her arms. Then a monster started chasing them, and she couldn't run fast enough to save them both; her sister was devoured and she just barely escaped, left alone and homeless on the streets. Every since then, she has hated technology with a passion, because she witnessed firsthand how unreliable it is, how easily it can get hacked into, and how dangerous it can become.
Also, before the Armaggedon, her family had a robot-dog named Robot, and he survived the Armageddon. He's the only person (well, not really person, but you know what I mean) Cecily lives with, now. She calls him Bot (which is still a technology name, but she thinks its better than Robot, and Bot won't respond to anything that doesn't sound like Robot, because that's how he's programmed). He's the only technology related thing she likes. Bot acts like a normal dog, except he looks robotic. He is made of metal, blue and silver in color, but when you touch him, he feels soft, dog-like.
Nowadays, she usually spends her days stealing food and trying to stay alive.
Also, what is the plotline in this story going to be? Or are we going to decide that as we move along?
submitted by Magnolia (Lavandula), age 12
(January 22, 2018 - 4:42 pm)
Yeah, I think a younger age would make for more diversity, yeah! I just didn't want a bunch of 13 year olds, thats all.
The Armaggedon took place around 1 and a half years to 2 years ago.
Oh, and the plot? Yeah.. I just realized I don't really have one. I should have thought about that. We'll just see where it goes for now.
submitted by Danie
(January 22, 2018 - 6:43 pm)
@Danie- Ok, that's fine. I'l change it to she got the regular implant when she was young but after Armageddon she used all of her money to get it removed because it glitched and instead of making it easier for her to travel, it kept bringing her back to her old home. Instead of growing up homeless, she lived in a very small ramshackle house on the outskirts of the city.
Xhyla-
I scurry down the dark, narrow alleyway, my target in sight. Suddenly, it stops moving, and I press myself against the cold stone wall of a forgotten, abandoned building. If I am seen, It will put our whole mission in jeopardy.
As I try to quiet my heavy breathing, my target scans its surroundings. It turns back to the the road, apparently finding nothing of concern, and then there is a loud crash behind me. One of those stupid trash collectors has dropped a huge pile of scrap metal right at the entrance to the alleyway I just ran down. My target wheels around, and I duck behind a crumbling wooden fence a second too late. My target spots me, and with a wicked grin on its face, says "Xhyla Andorak. We meet again."
"Agent Calix." I say, emotionless, "Trying to save the city again?"
"Hello to you too Xhy." Calix answers frostily. "I was just taking a stroll. Taking a look at our next recovery mission."
"I pity you. You think that you're being sneaky in that black cloak. That I won't realize what you're really up to. You think you can save this place by destroying our headquarters? You don't stand a chance and you know it."
With that, I set my laser glove to "stun," and aim at the agents shoulder. Calix reacts too slowly, drawing a hidden gun a moment too late. I pick up the limp body and stroll into headquarters. A recovery agent prisoner. Boss will be thrilled.
____________________
I'm not quite sure how I'm going to fit Xhyla in with the rest of the charries, so I didn't give Agent Calix a first name or gender, just in case it could somehow fit in with something going on with another charrie. If anyone has any ideas I'm open to suggestions. If not, I'll try to think of something on my own.
Enyo~
“Bored,” I mutter. “I’m so bored, Angelica, it’s unbelievable. Initiate drone attack to my controls. I want to blow something up.”
Her robotic voice speaks. “Of course.”
I look around the city cameras I hacked into. I spot Mr. Mortimer and Dante, the AI I had heard about months before. Ooh, funny this situation is. Her sentiment is getting in the way and she doesn’t see Ray approaching from behind.
He uses a net to capture her and begins to drag her away before he stops suddenly. And he looks up and then to the left where the camera is. I stare into his eyes.
“Bye bye.”
I set the detonation off, and the block explodes.
“I have to warn you that the detonation may not be enough to kill,” Angelica speaks.
“That does not matter,” I shrug. “When they both recover, I think it’s time I pay a visit.”
“I must warn you as an AI that that may not be the wisest choice-“
“Angelica, darling, the art of disguise is to my advantage. No one has ever seen my face before, and no one ever will. Just wear a blonde wig, glasses, contacts, and put on a limp and you should be fine. Well, not you of course, you’re an AI.”
“I understand.”
“Good,” I smirk. “Now, target all major places of population and set off more. News shall be made today, Angelica!”
