Curse of Renovamen

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Curse of Renovamen

Curse of Renovamen

An old man steps onto a crate in the town square and begins his preach.
Hear my warning and don't go to the Northern Lands.
For there lies the Tower of Renovamen
Tower of Renovamen is a very interesting one.
There are legends of great treasures and glory to those who make it to the top
Don't listen to such bribes!
For there you're soul will be anchored! Those who enter never leave!
To go through extreme pain and suffering, only to find out that not even death can save you from the misery.
To die, again and again. To feel every second of it. Only to wake up in the first room. Beasts with fangs and claws. Traps that melt off your flesh. The endless limbo of suffering.
No glory or treasure is worth such agony!
The Curse of Renovamen is nothing to mess with.
Only those who make it to the top can be free of the curse. And make off with the treasures that lie within!
Or so legend says....
You listen to the Old Man but you brunsh these off as rambling. A tower that prevents death. Please. You're too old for such fairy tales. But you have notice that those who claim they'll go never come back. And promise of treasure? You decide to not heed the warnings.
Now rules
RULE NUMBER ONE: DEATH IS NOT FINAL. You'll wake up in the first room, unless you have found an artifact that revives you.
2, no Opness, it's unlikely that you'll be able to make it to the top unscathed.
3, be realistic, no one can one punch a beast to oblivion.
4, shipping is fine but don't overdo it.
5, jerkness is allowed but if you die, you "friends" will most likely raid your corpse than carry you with hopes of revival.
6, You don't have to be human, I'll allow all walks of life. You could even be a beast with hopes of seeing the outside world for the first time or plan the demise of those pesky intruders.
7,  Skills,  you can make them up but they can't be overpowered. There more powerful the move,  the more energy it'll sap from you. You can gain skills by reading Skill Books but if you already have max skills. You need to disown one to gain another.
8, perks,  these are you natural born abilities. Unlike skills,  once you decide them,  you are stuck with them. You can have up to 3 perks but one of them must be bad.
9. Enemies might be closer than you think
10. Have fun.
Classes
Swordman: This class is good at offense. But needs to be light for their speed so they lack defense. Starts with rusty sword and heath potion. Can have up to 5 skills at a time.
Mage: a great support class, has offensive and defensive spells but lack physical strength and endurance. Starts with Spell Book (make up what kind of mage you are),  wooden staff and a heath potion. Can have up to 10 skills at a time.
Axeman: has good defense. Doesn't hit as hard as swordsman nor has as many skills as mage but is able to haddle more pain. Comes with leather tunic, rusty hand axe, and a heath potion.  Can have up to 3 skills.
Archer: good at range attacks, but frail. Comes with worn bow,  20 arrows. (Arrow can be retrieved but the thing it is in needs to be dead if you want them back!)  A dagger, and a heath potion.
Priest: like mage but focuses on more defensive skills. Comes with Holy Book (like Spell Book) wooden staff,  and heath potion.
Magic Gunman: expert at guns. But defense is weak. Comes with rusty magic gun,  magic bullet,  and  heath potion.  can have up to 5 skills.
If you want to come up with your own class,  just ask!

Okay, also he's sarcastic and sometimes a jerk. But only if he sees it as justified, which isn't often.

Aster~

Could that old man just be quiet for a second?

He keeps on going on and on and on about  how DANGEROUS and HORRIBLE and JUST PLAIN EVIL the Tower is.

Idiot. I walk over to him, my bare pawfeet slapping on the cobbles, and ask, in the most polite and least sarcastic way there is; "Er, excuse me, but how do you know all of this?" The man stops, cane in mid-wave, and stares at me, his eyes bulging. I wait a moment, then flash him my pearliest canines, and say; "Oh, well, if you can't answer that question, could you point me in the direction of the Tower?" He continues to stare, frozen. I nod politely, and turn to the left, where I already knew the tower was, saying as I do; "Much obliged."

I hear snickers from the crowd surrounding the old man, most directed at the man in question. I smirk as I walk away. "Foolhardy, brash young.." The old man pauses. So do I, my back facing him. "Erm, wolf-thing! Even the most skilled warriors cannot go through the traps in wait for you in the Tower!! You will be trapped, like all the others, doomed to die and die and die eternally! Heed my warning, young-" I trun in an instant, draw my sword, and in a flash am at his throat, my sword pricking his ungular vein. "Thanks for the warning, old man, but I think I'm just a little bit spryer than you are, and a good deal smarter." I sheathe my sword, and walk away, in comeplete silence.

As I said, idiot.

I walk out of town, cobblestones turning to roushly-hune and well-acked earth, with hardly any carts trundling accross the road. Rolling hillas and valleys soon appear to my right. Forward, and the road splits, one turning to my left, the other ontinues onwards. The road to my left is much less well-cared for, and has many unhealthy-looking weeds poking up from ruts in it. I turn to my left and follow it, and then after a time, it stops at the black Tower of Renovamen. I quickly find the tower, spiraling upwards into the clouds until it is lost to view. Black and perilous. It looks strange against the pleasantly green rolling hills surrounding it. I roll my eyes. So very, very perilous and foreboding that it's obvious it's fake. I open the small black door at its base, and step into the myth. The Tower of Renovamen.

Hope that was good!

Bravo, Bravo!

Also for the name of the species, Lupusdente? I like naming things in Latin, it's fun.

as for why the Old Man knows this. There are many possible reasons why. but I can tell you, it's not a load of hoopla.

Thanks Writer! The name sounds nice and professional.

Oh, and I forgot to post a perk that's bad......

mmmm.....

Perk 3: Every time he uses his especially-strong athletic skills, he is physically drained, and more prone to the staggering-point than usual. (As in, after he jumps fifty feet in the air-only supernatural athletic-ness is affected by this)

Also, do all the characters start in different rooms, or all in the same? I will assume different for now. Oooh, what if the Tower changes its' traps and monsters to suit the skill and level of intellectuall-ness of the person in the Tower?

Aster~

I step into a comepletely white room. Only a small chest-full of nothing-in the far right corner, and a clean-looking bed is in it. I turn back to the door I entered through-

It's gone.

Oh.

Well.

I can still do this. I turn back to the room. There is now a small redwood door. Hmm. I step over to it, and it enters into a long hallway, lit only by a few flickering torches. I roll my eyes. Classic. Maybe they think only newbies won't recognise that the only way to walk a long hallway like this is on the edge.  I edge along the hallway, and only a few darts-which I duck under-and nets activate. I open the door at the end to see a huge arena filled with a  few pathetic monsters. Skirting around all the obvious paths to them, I charge into battle.

~~~~~~
Level Four. Aheh. Seems like I've traveled up a lot more than 'four' staircases. I stand in the doorway to Level Foor, catching my breath. I decide not to touch the doorway, since it could activate.... a lot of different types of traps. Not a lot of challenge yet. Unless they want to kill me of exhaustion. Aheh. I wheeze slightly, for a few moments, and then stand up straight, the hairs on my neck prickling. I feel like... someone is watching me.... My ears perk, and I stand comepletely still, listening for any tell-tale signs of breathing, while holding my own breath, my word at the ready. None. I slowly exhale, one ear still perked for signs of the unseen watcher. The feeling still hasn't gone away. I twitch my tail irritably. Someone's watching me? Hmph. I'll show them. I step behind the door as I swing it open against me.
I hear nothing. No darts, no poison-tipped arrows. Mmm. I wait several more moments. It could be a trap that activates a few moents later, when I get my guard down. Nothing. I wait for longer, the moments ticking by, the doors' rough grain tickling my fur. The silence is unnerving. I carefully tip-toe around the door. A ling, empty hallway. Mmm. I leap over the threshold,-the perfect place for a pressure-plate- roll, and lie flat on my belly. Just in case there are poison darts. I hear no tell-tale thumps as a pressure plate is activated. Too easy. I crawl over the floor, keeping low, but ready to leap up at a moments notice. The floors' stone is cold and slightly sticky against me. I look down. Almost dried blood, spattered on the floor. Looks like someone else didn't get through this test. I glance at the walls. Blood on them, but only in a few specific paces. Ah. A quickly closing test. The walls close in until they crush you. Hah! I crawl over the floor until I reach the door. I hop up onto the threshold, ready to push the door open when-
Click.
A pressure plate-right on the threshold-probably the place was littered with it-I am such an idiot. The wall rush in, quicker than I had thought they would, and start to crush me-a lever! Yes yes yes! I reach, feeling bones start to crack, and-my paw is a millimeter away from the lever-pain pain pain-with one tremednous effort I reach and pull down onto it-the walls stop. They withdraw, leaving me crumpled on the floor. Pain racks through me. Aaaah. I lurch over to the door and push it open, heedless of any traps in wait. I hope there is a healing potion or something behind thi door. A comepletely black room, with black stone, black floor, and shiny black table, looms up at me. I push the door shut behind me. I have only a few minutes left to me before I black out. I stumble to the shiny table, and see.... and indentation, right where a jar would be placed... I peer muzzily at the writing carved beneath the indentation.... ^Place crushed skull in jar here in five seconds^ Apparently the writer had a sense of humorr..... black spots cloud my vision, and maybe it's just my imaginations that medium-level monsters are peeling themselves off the walls....... my vision swims, and I black out, my last view being a monsters' mouth.
~~~~~

I wake up-comepletely fine. I slump against the pillows. Of course. I have to fail a level to get passed the next one.

*********

Hope that was good! Maybe Stilloe could be the one watching Aster

I'm tired of waiting

Benvolio~

I did it! I finally found The Tower of Reincarnation! Soon, very soon indeed, my master will once more be among the living. Right as I started going down the cobblestone path, an old, stout, haggard man stood in my way. "Stop, traveler! For if you go into that Tower, you will surely never be seen again! Many a great rumors have told about the terrible deaths in the Tower! The best course of action for you is to leave and not even utter the Tower's name!" I ignore the old man and continue down the path. Finally,I reach the door to the Tower and open it. I know that what the old man had said was true, but I must complete this challange in order to live on. Before I enter, I give myself a good 2-3 hours of crank time so that I don't suddenly colaspe while fighting the monsters within these Tower walls. Stepping into the Tower, I see that on the walls are extravagant carving depicting the ancient &543&6&$3's Reincarnation Cycle. ~

Thats all untill tomorrow.

Sorry I did this during lunch in school, but I went to the wrong schedueled lunch, so there's more now. Continuing from where we left off...

Benvolio~

It's just so incredible how detailed and intricate these markings are! This bizzare spectacle wraps around the entire room. The markings are even on the floor and celing. In the middle of this lobby stands a deep coblat blue fountain, radiating with an ancient power, spewing crystal clear water. I take small amount of the water and take a sip. Somehow, I knew that I had to drink it. Somehow, I'm even able to taste it. The water is reinvigorating, and tastes sweet. It's delicious, so I take a little more and store it.~

Okay now thats all until tomorrow.

Continuing from where we left off...

Benvolio~

In fact, I think I'll take more than that. I take about 1.5 liters and store it in a good sized container. Then I look at the fountain again. On it, like the walls, floor, and celing, are markings dipicting eight sitting men. The first looks weak, the second tired, the third wounded, and the fourth crazy. Under them are four more men, the first looks very strong, the second energized, the third healthy, and the fourth with a cleared and obviously sane mind. I see that the first four are drinking from filled bowls, but the last four have empty bowls beside them. I realize that it is depicting the effects of the water.~

That's all for now.

oooh! Nice. Perhaps you become completely dependant on the water source to survive, while simply carrying around a flask will make it so that when it's all gone you will go mad?

submitted by Chinchilla
(March 30, 2018 - 3:45 pm)

I think he meant the water heals. Notice that when the bowls in the depiction were filled,  one was weak,  one was tired,  one was wounded,  and one was insane. When the bowls were empty. The weak man became strong,  the tired man became energized,  The wounded man became healed.  And the insane man became sane. This water isn't like a drug, that you feel good on it and awful without it. It days that these men we're unwell before they drank. And because they drank they became better.

But hey,  that's just a theory.

A GANE THEORY.

(Sorry,  I couldn't help myself)

Benvolio~

I look around the room again and see a door open ajar. I go through the door and see a massive hallway, with a seemingly endless amount of doors. I look through one and see a woman leaving a room. I look through another and see two humanoid creatures deciding which way too go. The next door I open, I go through. Almost immeadiatly I regret my decision. In the center of the room is a horrifyingly ugly creature, and I've only been in the room for two seconds. After three more seconds it kills me.

I wake up, no more like electrified awake, in the room that the woman left earlier. I still have everything I had before I died... Wait a minute... How am I still alive? I thought that I died. I definetly had been mauled by that ugly rat thing. Of course, this place is magic. I leave the room. ~

thats all for now.

Benvolio~

Wow, what a change of scenery. First a fancy and vibrant entrance, now a filthy dark hallway. Also, this hallway judging from what I see, might smell deeply like decaying corpses and feces. Suddenly, arrows, darts, and the like, come raining down behind me. They also are vey close to hitting me. I run, and make it to the door at the end of the hallway.

LEVEL 3

I have defeated a monster half my size by stabbing its heart with the bottom end of my cane. I also, for some reason, am currently kicking it around as if it is a soccer ball. I am also enjoying every second of doing so. What is wrong with me? Finally, I decide to leave the room and almost get crushed by the walls.

SOME TIME LATER

Huh, who knew that could happen? Well this is akward.~

Out of time .

I shall make the group together once and for all. (without Wolf becuse Aspen is taking too long)

Benvolio~

Okay, now this already bizzare situation just got even wierder. I somehow stumbled upon a little camp. From my "amazing" powers of observation, I guess that there is three creatures in the the little camp. The camp they made had traps surrounding it, and I saw them and tried to avoid them. I still somehow got trapped from two meters away. But what makes this even more akward, and even a little funny, is that we are also surrounded by little gremlins wearing policemen clothing. It is just too funny. I start to laugh very loudly, awaking the three others.~

Out of time.

OK, I don't know what Artistic Misfit is doing but I am very interested in what's gonna happen next so I'll leave it alone....  for now.

Normally,  We would start in the same room. But I think Misfit here is doing something.  Like there was a glitch with the curse. Since Benvolio is a robot. Don't prove me wrong Artistic Misfit!

Stillo~

"You awake?"

The wolf man jumpsss up.

"I take it you saved me? "

I shake my head

"No,  we both died."

"What do you mean,  'we both'? "

"Well... "

Earlier

I place the powdered ssskull jar on the table. The Wolf man corpssse lays there. But the monstersss ssseem to loossse interessst on it, they ssseem ssscared...

I turn around jussst asss the giant hammer came crassshing down...

Present

"Is it me, or is floor 4 a massive -"

"Thisss isss not funny. We need to get to the top if we want to get out of here."

"Why can't we- oh yeah,  because the freaking door vanished! "

I sssigh.

"Well,  it looksss like we're gonna have to work together,  the name'sss Ssstillo."

"Aster."

Okay just ignore the singing mage sorry....

Quinn~

I know this is danger territory. The man on the corner was screeching about it. Don't go into the northern lands. Don't go into the Tower of Renovamen. Don't... Don't.... Well, the world has left me with no choice. On instinct, I keep my head down. People are more likely to let you by if they don't know you're a Ranine. Even though I'd be surprised if I saw a person, I angle my head downward anyway. But I lift it up again, because maybe soon I won't be "that untrudtworthy creature in the corner," I'll be the one with all the mony. Maybe soon I wont be "that criminal who we still haven't managed to catch," I'll be "the one who succesfully climbed the Tower". The Tower of Renovamen. When I look up, I see it coming up on my right. I walk towards it, and when I finally reach it, I know that the street man was telling the truth. I can't even see my goal, as the top of the tower is engulfed in clouds. The huge building rises, up and up and up, more majestic than I imagined. For an instant I debate climbing it, but quickly put the notion away. I slowly open the door. A white room greets me. A chest lies in the far corner. On instinct I close the door behind me and go to the chest. Nothing. I sigh and look up. The door has vanished. I try not to be surprised. Everything else the man said was true. I square my shoulders and open the other door.~

Sorry, that's all for now. My sister is bugging me for a turn.

Aster~

I am actually..... very surprised I'm now traveling with a giant lizard-like thing. If course, I shouldn't be judging, considering I am essentially a mutant wolf-thing. Eh, we're all weird in some way. Okay.... Level Four.....

~~~~~~~~
Phew. We're now in the room with the lizard jar place. I also brought along my crushed skull but Stillo said that he could use his instead. He quickly steps back from the black podium, and the giant hammer swings downwards against nothing. The monsters retreat into the walls, and I start to stride forward when-"Stop." Stillo places a hand on my shoulder, and nods to the floor. Ooooh. Checkerboard style. Ugj, I hate those things. I shrug. "We could just crawl accross the floor on our bellies..... bit the checkerboard style is kind of obvious. Wouldn't you want it to be hidden?"
"Unless it's just to distract us from another peril. Or maybe both work. This floor is so-"
"Hard? Obnoxious? Dum? Lame? Weird?" Stillo glares at me, his tongue flicking out of his mouth.
"Annoying. Please don't joke around, this is serious." I nod, and put a frowningingly serious face. I mime smoking a pipe and seriously wave to the checkerboard. "Quite right mate! What is the next move, comrade?" He scowls. I drop my act and stare at the walls. Mmm. Hole in it. It's a [retty big hole. Huh. I wonder what could be inside it..... Big enough for a monster to come out of it..... Or a traveler to fit in it....."Wait." I say; "What if that's the way out? That imposingly obvious black door over there could just be there to lead us off the trail," I point to be big hole. Stillo frowns. "I don't know, it's a risk.... maybe you go the hole way and I brave the floor? I'm pretty quick on my feet..."
***************
So, maybe Quinn could rush up quickly and enter Level Four? Then we could introduce your character quickly. Also, any ideas on what the traps should be? I'm all out of 'em here.
