Into the Nova

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Into the Nova

Into the Nova RP

"We're sending them out," said Admiral Hall, her hand to her ear transceiver, "The Nova has stood on the edge of our system too long. There is only one way to find out what's on the other side of that thing, and our crew is ready and willing to launch." She frowned, listening to the voice on the other end of the transmission. "We are well aware of the risks. Our best enginieers have contructed a ship able to withstand immense pressure, heat, cold, acid, and anything else the Nova can throw at us." Hall looked out of the window of her office on the Space Station Ebony. Her glass-domed office gave her a view of the Earth on one side, and a view of the hangar on the other. Password: Supernova. In the hangar, she could see the sparks of plasma welders on the ship that was the S.S Starbound. "Of course, Mr. President." she said, and hung up on her transciever.

Behind her came a knock on her door. Admiral Hall sighed and turned around. "Enter!" she yelled. Captain Reginald Dunham stepped through the door, his olive green jacket wrinkling about his knees. "How is she coming along?" he asked.

"Well. I have no doubts that you will be pleased with her. The Starbound will not fail you."

"When will I see the crew?" Dunham asked.

"Now, if you wish."

"Please," said the anxious Captain Dunham. Admiral Hall once agin put her hand to her tranciever.

"Show the crew in."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a sci-fi RP. The crew of the S.S Starbound have been assigned with the mission of journeying into a strange swirling portal to some other place deemed 'The Nova'. Your Charries are the crew of the ship. As you write your sheets, I will write Hall introducing them and Dunham making his comments. After they're all introduced, we will begin the voyage.
A few rules:
1. No OP charries.
2. Two Charries max.
3. I'd appreciate it if you made your charrie sheets detailed, as it makes it easier for me to introduce them when I do.
4. Try not to make all of your charries super high rank.
5. Have fun!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There are four departments aboard the Starbound:

Medical (pretty self explanitory)

Bridge (pilots, navigation, etc.)

Security/Military (again, pretty self-explanitory)

Engine and tech (Mechanics, engineers, etc.)

My charrie (Reginald Dunham) is the captain of the ship.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's the sheet:
Name:
Gender/pronouns:
Age:
Rank:
Department:
Appearance:
Personality (strength & Weaknesses, please):
Backstory:
Special Skill (nothing O, just something they're good at, EG: Mental Computation, drawing):
Also, age range should be about 25-57. They have to be experienced officers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'll post my sheet after the first person posts. See you aboard the Starbound!

Okay then.

Special skill: Hacking

I suppose being good at fighting isn’t considered a special skill...and remembering things ties into calculating, so I’ll say his special skill is calculating things quickly.

Special skill: problem solving. That's what I was going for anyway. it's okay if he has other, smaller, talents though, right?

Ah shoot, meant to join this earlier! Sorry about that. I'll make a minor charrie to compensate. :)

Name: Arie Orione

Gender/pronouns: she/her/etc

Age: 25

Rank: (Can I ask about this? If it were Star Trek she'd be an Ensign, but what's your ranking system?)

Department: Medical (but she's well-rounded and can sub into engine/tech-- she studied both in school. Her passion is medical but her parents were engineers who wanted her to follow their footsteps. She's not the best at engine/tech but can be of service in an emergency.)

Appearance: shoulder-length red hair, bright blue eyes. Pale skin-- not dead-pale but fair, to be sure. Usually has a healthy flush of pink. About 5' 4''. Wears the standard uniform, but accents it with a silver choker necklace. Hair done up in a messy bun, usually. Strong hands, but slender.

Personality (strength Weaknesses, please): Excited to have been chosen. Wondering a bit why-- sure, she's pretty good at what she does, but she feels she isn't outstanding. Always there to lend a hand or a cheerful smile. Can be stubborn, though. Sees the goodness in other people, but not in a naive way. If you make her mad-- oh, just don't. She's not above pranks. However, since she's kind of young, she does tend to do things by the rule book instead of by her heart. Weaknesses include her rule-book tendencies-- she's afraid to follow her heart in fear of hurting someone else because her instincts were wrong. She's also not physically strong.

Backstory: Her parents were engineers aboard another ship who have since retired. They wanted her to follow in their technological footsteps, but her passion is medical and helping people. She knows her way around the lab and office like you knwo your own bedroom, and often chooses to spend time there. Her choker necklace has special significance to her-- TBD, but probably not important at this moment.

Special Skill (nothing O, just something they're good at, EG: Mental Computation, drawing): she has a good sense of direction (if that doesn't work then she's good at imitating, which she might be good at anyway).

Other: not really? Again with the rank question.

Alrighty, here’s mine.

Name: Jimmy Burns

Age: 44

Gender: M

Rank: A regular security guard

Department: Security

Appearance: Light caramel brown color short hair, dark amber eyes, a firmly set slim jaw line, lightly tanned skin, 5’11”, wears a security uniform (I don’t know hat they look like, or if you just want it to be regular police clothes...),

Personality: He’s quite a laid back type but only on subjects that he has a firm stand in. He enjoys talking, and is generally kind and friendly, but definitely not naive. He has a general rule he follows, that all humans are created equal, so he tries to look out for others instead of him self, but doesn’t really have any close friends. He does, however, make “friends”, and people tend to like talking with him. He has a hard time with trust however. He is the most loyal human you will ever meet, but only if he’s known you for years, even if you are trust worthy. He likes to get things done by himself, but will sometimes ask for help. Sometimes. He’s also pretty sly when he wants to be and quite perceptive.

Backstory: He was born into a very rich family in England, and they owned hundreds of acres. He would love to play in the woods and visit a few family’s that lived on their land. Jim and his father were not close, but Jim loved his mother. He grew up with five siblings, two girls, three boys. His Uncle Jack would often visit them after his traveling abroad, and soon Jim wanted to travel with him. So on his fifteenth birthday, they went to America, where Jim would later live with his uncle for a few years, then off to collage to study the law and later becomes (became?) a police officer. Then one day, he fell in love with a young girl. But long story short, his heart was broken, and is a little touchy to this day.

Special skill: Getting to know people, I guess.

Other: N/A

Finished!

*clears throat and shuffles feet awkwardly* Ummmmm. Sso... um, General Waffleson, would you mind terribly if I switch out my character? You see, I have this... issue, that sometimes I think out one character and really like her but then I get and idea for another and find that it's way better than the first. In this case, I've had two characters with Leonora's appearance and very similar personalities... *sigh* so yeah. Annnyhow, sorry to switch around on you... I'll post my new charrie soon.

Alright, let's get this show on the road!

Cpt. Dunham~

The launch was set, the crew was prepared, and the Admiral had finally given the final signal. It was time to launch. Captain Dunham seated himself and tapped a finger to his ear to activate the intercom system aboard the ship, "All personel, this is your Captain speaking. We are clear for liftoff in T-minus 1 minutes. Please report to your stations." Switching the intercom off, he turned to Head navigation officer George Hollan, a short man with an aloof hier about him. "Hollan, are we on course?"

"Affirmative, Captain Dunham. All systems are ready to go."

"T-minus 10 seconds..." Captain Dunham said over the intercom, "9 seconds... 8 seconds... 7 seconds... 6 seconds... 5 seconds... 4 seconds... 3 seconds... 2 seconds... 1 seconds... liftoff."

With a shake as the afterburners powered, the S.S Starbound shot into space, beginning the mission...

INTO THE NOVA.

Name: Erin Taylor

Gender: Female

Age: 20, pretending to be older than she is

Rank: a little bit under the middle in the ranking of the technicians who do repairs and stuff

Department: Engineering and Tech

Appearance: Straight, darkish brown hair cut about two inches past her shoulders sort of jaggedly, diagonal bangs, a pale complexion and deep brown eyes that can show a lot of feeling

Personality: Erin isn’t afraid to speak her mind, but she isn’t wordy. She’s very, very stubborn, and sometimes her temper can flare up. Erin isn’t very good with social stuff, and honestly kind of awkward. She’s loyal, and sometimes reckless when she feels like she messed something up. Erin’s extremely smart, very observant, and has an amazing memory.

Gotta finish later!

This probably isn't possible, based on my limited knowledge of the space program. Let's just blame it on futuristic technology and hope maybe the set-up/intensity of space travel has...changed? I guess I've just been thinking "Star Wars." I don't know. I clearly didn't think this through. Oh well. Let the magic of fiction erase away all inconsistancy.

Onyx~

3...2...1...lift-off.

This is it.

I'm in.

I should be with the other engineers who helped build the Starbound, clapping and cheering and thinking about how I'm going to go home, call my family, and forget about the whole business for a few days.

Gosh I'm a reckless idiot. I didn't even think I'd make it. But here I am, curled up amidst the hissing machinery, decorated with knobs, buttons and levers galore. My heart is pounding and I can't seem to catch my breath after that initial dash to get on board. The security had been hard to bypass, since only the highest officials were allowed to witness the takeoff. I'd gotten in here before anyone else; waiting while hours worth of routine checks were preformed, and yet I still couldn't subdue the addrenaline racing through me with every quick, shallow breath.

I close my eyes and lean my head back against the hot metal-plated wall. We all know that the adventurers on this voyage may very well not return. Something made me spend months researching how to stow away on the voyage. Maybe it was curiousity. After all the time I had spent working on the ship only to hear the tiniest slip of a rumor that I was being considered for the voyage, I couldn't stop thinking about he Nova. Maybe I have something to prove. Maybe I just want to do something with the pent-up anger and frusteration that's been boiling up a nice angsty soup inside for so long.

Or maybe I need to get my head examined.

Whatever the reason, I'm here now. I'm heading straight into the heart of the Nova.

And I can't go back now.

~

Hope this is okay!

Stella~

“I smell death,” I announce, walking with a bang into the medical bay.

Several people nod respectfully or stand ramrod straight before proceeding to their duties as soon as I pass them.

“I smell bleach,” a girl shoulder length red hair mumbles, tapping on a tablet.

I turn to her. “I like your humour. What are you doing...? I don’t see a name tag.”l

“Name tags?” she asks, slight panic raising in her voice, her green gaze meeting mine. “We were supposed to have name tags?”

I laugh. “A joke, junior. Name?”

She stand straighter, putting the tablet down. “Ensign Arie Orione of the Medical Bay, Doctor Pax.”

“Well Arie, what were you doing?”

“Checking the medical records of passengers, Doctor.”

“Right-“

Before I can continue, the medical bay doors burst open with someone from engineering hissing in pain.

“Already, Schmitt?” I ask, recognising the mop of blue hair, before walking up to him.

“Burnt my hand,” he sheepishly laughs in pain. “Wasn’t watching the metal.”

I look at it, lightly touching the red skin before sighing. “It’s barely a first degree. I’ll have Doctor Orione give you some antiseptic and you’ll be fine. Can you handle it, Orione?” I ask, turning to Arie.

She smiles. “Of course.”

“Good,” I say, moving to the waving hand of Doctor Krade.

“Bones,” she greets with a smile. “I knew we would both get aboard the Starbound one day.”

“Me more likely,” I reply with a snicker.

“Oh shut up, you-“

Once again the bay is interrupted by the sound of the doors opening, and in steps in the emotionless silver haired man I somehow call my friend.

“Ewan,” I greet, walking up to him.

“Bones,” he nods. “Good news to report?”

“Everything’s set, we’re all acquainted, an idiot already injured himself, and it’s a good day to get blown up. Good news to report?” I mock.

“Bones,” he says, this time with irritation itching in his voice.

I sigh and give a small smile. “Really, everything’s fine. Get back to bridge.”

He nods and turns around, practically marching back off.

“The Academy really turned him serious, didn’t it?” Doctor Krade asks, looking towards me.

I turn to her. “No, he’s always been this way. Now let’s fix some people before this ship falls apart.”
