I woke

Chatterbox: Inkwell

   I woke

   I woke up early that morning, but I told myself it was OK; it was my birthday, one of the few days we had a real reason to be truly happy. Exited, I jumped out of bed and raced into the kitchen, where dad was waiting for me. He grinned.

"Hey, there's my fifteen-year-old!" He hugged me."Why do you have to grow so fast?"

"Dunno, that's how it works, isn't it?" I pointed out."How it's worked for 2109 years."

My eyes slid over to the wood table. Presents! Three of them: one each from Mom, Dad, and Ellie. Dad's were usually the best. Mom entered, Ellie with her.

"Morning, Liv! Happy fifteenth," Chimed Mom.

"Yeah, Liv!" Ellie squealed,"Open mine first! Please!" She was bouncing up and down, up and down. I love El, but she was so hyper sometimes.

    "OK, El, settle down," I laughed, reaching for her gift.

It was a bundle of lilies, placed in a water-filled glass cup. Ellie knew I had needed a new still-life model to paint. Elanor's gifts were always sweet like that.

Next was Mom's. She had gotten me a new pallette of paint. Perfect! I had thought. I can use these to paint Ellie's flowers!

And, last but not least, was Dad's. Hmmmm, whar could he have gotten me? Could it possibly, maybe be-

"HOLY CRUD IT MOVED."

And without further ado, I opened it.

I'm finally sharing this story with the world, yay! Anywhoo, this is the first part of chapter one of my novel Nobodies: Saving the World. Not very interesting right now, but it gets better, trust me. Admins, it gets a little violent later on, but not super gory. Hope you guys like it!

I gave up on the italics thing, but here's part two:
~~~~~~~~~~
At first I thought it was just a little ball of fur- before I realized it was accually a tiny, tiny puppy. He took a look at me with his miniscule eyes and gave me a soft little yap.
"He's the cutest thing I've ever seen," I announced, picking him up gingerly and ploppimg him on my right shoulder. He gave me a content little sigh.
"I'm sorry he's so tiny," Dad apoligized,"German Shepheards usually aren't born that sm-"
Before he could continue, I wrapped him in a huge hug. I loved my gift. I really did- my little Reuben.
~~~~~~~~

He was named after a hero in a book I had read. Reuben wasn't unheathy or concerning- aside from the fact that he could fit in the palm of my hand. I didn't complain, though- getting Reuben was a very big treat, considering the world I live in.

At around 2070, govornment leaders decided to spend America's riches more wisely. They selected five cities- NYC, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, and Orlando- and consentrated all the country's money on them. They prospered like crazy with all the new, fancy technology- while the rest of us were left here to rot.

Dad hated the govornment. He spoke openly about how he felt likethe situation we lived in told us we worth nothing.

"But remember girls," he would say to me and Ellie(who is my sister),"That is not true. We all have great purpose in this life; some are simply arrogant to the fact of it."

I love how Dad never talked to me like I was a child who didn't understand, or that the whole stupid thing didn't- doesn't- exist. He was always upfront and wise and daring.

For breakfast we had eggs and toast. I fed Reuben my yolks and crusts- my least favorite parts. I laughed at how he inspected them carefully before finally consuming them.

When we had finished eating, I brought Reuben with me into my room. We lived in a small house, so it was just off the kitchen/living room/dining room. I took him staight to the mirror propped somewhat dangerously on my dresser. I took a peek at it and saw myself life I always am; just a little yaller than Mom at "5'8", thick, long black hair at a slight slant, so that the part in the middle is nearly to my butt, but the sides are just to the bottom of my rib cage. There is this one chunk of bang on the left side that I love to keep there.

Biggish blue eyes- I look like Dad rather than Mom. Ellie inherited her good looks- shorter, pretty face, hazel eyes, some freckles. The only big difference in thier appearences is that Momis blonde, but Ellie is more stawberry- blonde.

For a minute I just watched Reuben sniff and growl at my mirror, then I got an idea. I retrieved Mom and Ellie's presents from the kitchen area, set the vase of flowers on a wood side table and placed my dog next to it. I got out a fresh canvas and my easel, and I began a new painting using Mom's fresh set.

When I paint, I am lost in another world. Consentrating on my subject, I more that just stroke a brush on a piece of paper. Art is my thing. Always has been, always will be.

Fortunatly, Reuben was up for a little nap right then, so it was much easier to paint him. He looked so sweet right there, culed up next to Ellie's lilies.

I wish I could just paint as my job- unfortunatly, I can't in the world I live in.

My name is Olivia Grace Nixon- Liv for short. And my life kind of sucks.

But it didn't feel sucky that day- or at least, the begining of that day. I f only it stayed the way it was right then- but, alas, it did not.

so I posted that I'm doing a slight name change, but I don't know if it showed up yet, so yeah. Now I'm Soren Infinity. Anywhooo:
~~~~~~
We lived fairly well for some random little family in Utah. Mom and Dad both had jobs. We lived in a little community- these are very common. We had a roof over our heads, food on the table, and clothing on our bodies.
We were extremely greatful for all the extra things, the little things that brought us joy. For example, after dinner that night, we shared a rare treat- a cookie. It still pains me to think of how many extra hours Dad would've needed to work at his job in the corn fields just to get us that one little piece of joy.
I was lying on my bed, thinking of how wonderous that day truly was, when I slipped off into a dream. The five of us (me, Ellie, Mom, Dad, and Reuben) were having a picnic under a tree, when all of a sudden it got very hot. But it didn't take me long to realize that the heat was not just only in the dream...
I sat up quickly, which caused Reuben, who was curled up next to me, to wake up also. Immediatly, he started to sniff the air tensely. I gave it a whiff myself, which made me realize it smelled like smoke. Smoke?! Oh no...
I only had the chance to scoop up Reuben and snatch my lucky bracelet(Dad's gift from the previous year; woven from a bit of baby blue yarn, soft pink yarn, and white yarn braided) before I hurried out of my room and to the front yard, which was our meeting place in case of a fire like that.
Panting, I had set my dog back on my shoulder and tied my bracelet to my non-dominate left hand and- feeling very brave- looked up.
Flames were spearing rapidly over my house, making me more and more fearful by the second. Desperately, I called out my family's names- to no reply. That simply inclined me to scream their names louder into the empty, empty night.
I had refused to believe what that scene was plainly showing me. They couldn't... they couldn't be...
Thinking fast, I stole a bucket that was lying aroud some ranfom person's house and raced to the community's well. After severall rounds of spriting back and forth, the fire was finally put out, and, trembling visibly from head to toe, I stepped into the ruins.
Molten waves of sadness and fear rushed through me as I searched the heap of ash and burnt wood that had once been my home. I had to paifully dig through half- disintigrated objects that were once precious to Mom, or Dad, or Ellie, or me.
I never found them.
To me back then, it meant that they had escaped out back.
By now, I've learned to face the truth that I always really knew deep down.
When I finished my search, I took a deep breath, turned away with Reuben still on my shoulder, and only ever looked back when I was sure I could no longer see the life I once had.
Thanks everyone! On to chapter 2:
~~~~~~

The next week past in a haze of stealing food, feeling utterly thirsty, and coming to the realization that I needed some wilderness survival lessons. In that time, I also decided that my birthday was no longer my birthday; it is simply Fire Day, the day my family was torn apart and my life destroyed.

After that terrible week, I stumbled across a little society that called themselves that Abandoned Warrior's Society, or the AWS. It soon became my home.

The first of my friends I met was Naomi. I was walking around one of my first days here, not really puying attention to where I was going, when I felt someone bump into me from behind. She turned around quickly and I took in her appearence: chest- length blonde hair braided off to one side, bluish- green eyes, short, some freckles, rosey face.

"Oh sorry!" She apologized.

"It's okay," I assured her, "I wasn't looking where I was going."

She smiled, stretching out her hand. "I'm Naomi. Want to come to my hang?"

I shook her hand. "Liv. And yes, I would love to."

And just like that, I had my first friend and a new home- I still live in that place. It's the basement of an old building that you enter through a window. It actually makes for a great hang.

In the months that it was just me and Naomi, I quickly adapted to life in the AWS. I aquired a job teaching kids around 6. I use my art talent to teach sometimes. My salaries give me roughly enough to meet life's needs. Because there are so many street theives, I also got myself a sword - for self-defense uses only.

Once Naomi and I were heading back to our hang when we heard noises coming from the inside. We both knew what it was...

Sorry gotta go! I'll be back later!
