So... Uh yeah. This is my book that I'm currently working on. Feedback is encouraged and appreciated.

The silo looked as it had always been. Something was off, though, but I couldn't put my finger on it. It was the same dusty brick-red color it always was in the summertime. The ring of mushrooms was there as always.  The sunset happened just as it had the night before, and the night before that. Everything seemed normal.

“Leigh! Supper’s ready!” My mother called from the back door of our farmhouse.

Disrupting me from my thoughts, I hurried in a daze back to our large yellow farmhouse.

Sunlight streamed through the windows in our kitchen, the patterns on the floor constantly changing and reflecting the colors of the setting sun.

I slid into my seat, and waited for mother to sit down as well.

   She never got the chance.

A scream erupted from the kitchen just as Ginger, my cat came bolting out of the kitchen door.

I leapt up, about to run into the kitchen, but a small voice whispered “Don’t.”

“What?” I twirled around to face Ginger. “Did… Did you just speak?”

“Yes, I did.” She drawled. “And I said, don’t go in the kitchen. Hemlock will take care of it all.”

Ever since we had gotten Ginger, I had thought I heard voices all over the place. This would explain it, despite being completely illogical.“What? Who’s Hemlock? What’s going on? How can you talk? Have you been able to talk the entire time? What happened to my mother?” I spoke quickly, crashes coming from the kitchen.

“I honestly didn’t think they would be here so quickly. And I’ll answer your questions later.” Ginger’s tail twitched. “But for now, we should be getting out of here. Take that salt shaker and frying pan. Follow me.”

I decided not to question the talking cat.

She jumped off of the table, and stared at me expectantly. She dashed off towards the door, and I followed obediently. When we got outside, Ginger took a sharp turn towards the old silo.

As we passed the kitchen window, I got a glimpse of a huge furry shape. I hurried along.

Ginger stopped as soon as we reached the silo door. She tilted her head towards it.

   “I’m a cat. I can’t open doors.” She said.

   “Oh. Right.”

I pushed open the door and Ginger slipped inside, then turned around for a second.

“Come on.” She said as she disappeared into the darkness.

I’ve sent Rook after the girl’s mother. He will be reporting soon, with news of the girl’s status. I think her name is ‘Leigh’. Uncommon name. Then again, all of our names are uncommon somewhere. She’s just uncommon here, as most of us are.

So good! Awesome! Can't wait to read more! I was kind of confused at first... Maybe add a little more background before jumping right into the story?

Heh, thanks. I was worried if it had a pacing issue, and adding more background is a great idea.

Waiiiiiit a second... S. Clockwork, are you Clockwork Sparrow by any chance? Sorry... Weird random theory. There was a CBer who went by that name a while ago, but she kinda disappeared.
