Chatterbox: Inkwell

Hi CB! I just made a beginning to a little story I had the idea of for a little while, please tell me what you think of it!! It's in Comic Sans, it would be remarkable if it stayed that way when this is posted xD (I got the CAPTCHA wrong, and it's still not in Veranda font, but it's in some other one??? It'll be Verdana when I post this, or I'll eat my hat)

I walk down the sidewalk to my home, thinking. I begin kicking a pebble with my feet. My dress shoes are brown, torn, and messy, even though they used to be white. Mom had bought them yesterday. Now that they are already destroyed,
I don't have a problem moving forward by scraping them on the sidewalk, it's
kinda a walk but more of a drag.
Kick. My dress is in a
similar condition to my shoes, brown, torn, and messy. Just as messy as my
shoes, a lot more torn. Though my shoes are fully brown with mud, you can still
see some specks of white…That is if you look really closely.
Kick. My hair and skin are the same story, though where the brown
of the mud has darkened the white of my shoes and dress, it is lighter on top
of my dark chocolate-colored skin and black curly hair. I scowl. It’s all her
fault.
Kick. Tiffany has done
many mean things in the past, and she has struck again… I guess I have some
sense of justice, because I almost immediately realize it feels wrong to blame
it on Tiffany, awful though she can be. It’s all my fault. Kick. I
curse under my breath. It is my fault, not just this situation either. Kick.
I mess up so many things for myself, and for what reason? Kick, kick.
Walking faster, I grit my teeth. “FOR NO REASON AT ALL!” I scream out loud. Kick!
I send the rock flying and stop in my tracks. I don’t want to go home. I had
been looking down at the sidewalk and the pebble, but now I look up at the sky.
It’s almost dark. For a while, forgetting about time, I watch the sun set. The
sunset isn’t very spectacular in a little neighborhood where the houses are
crowded so close together that when you’re in your home you could hear a pin drop
three houses away. Townhouses are houses, not homes. Well, maybe they could be.
Mine isn’t, I realize. It’s a little colder now, on a day in June that could
never be called cold. No, the night isn’t cold, but the change from very hot to
intermediate with a chill breeze is so sudden I can’t help but shiver a bit, forearms
on bare upper arms. Fireflies. The night that is now dark glows with fireflies.
The night sky has never been remarkable in this town, but the little star bugs
coming down to earth have always enchanted me. I look at them for a moment,
their green glow that can be cool-colored or warm-colored, perfectly in-between
for the first time I remember. It is a beautiful sight in the dark, and I stand
still, transfixed in the splendor of the simple fireflies. They flit about
randomly. Or so it seems. After a while I realize they were forming a path. A
wobbly, imperfect line, but a line nonetheless. On a whim, enchanted, I follow
them into the trees. The forest seems a little closer than it had been before. Just
a little… a good amount… enough to be curious…The magic spell falls off me. Why
is the forest so near! It was at least a car drive away from my house! Have I
wandered here before? No? Yes? No. It isn’t possible, I never knew of a forest
here! There was no forest here!! But it seems so familiar, like a dream… I
remember when I was just older than a toddler tripping on the roots of the huge
trees, scraping my knee and crying, sitting against the trunk of a great tree that
dwarfs the rest. I pause. This tree. I feel the barky texture, the soft moss
growing on one side. I bring my face closer to the tree and smell the moss. The
fireflies stop forming the line and resume flying in their ordinary firebug
manner, flitting around, lights flickering. Two roots from the tree make a
perfect sitting spot. Shouldn’t the tree seem smaller than it had before? No,
it seemed completely natural that the great thing might fit me always. On a June
night, in the center of a great forest, with the soft grass under me and the leafy
canopy above me, with the stars flying around me, I fell asleep in a forest
from a dream.

Hmm, this looks interesting. Weirdly enough, back in March I began (and almost finished!) a story that also involved magical trees and fireflies. I like your writing style.
