I'm just wondering

I'm just wondering if any of you have ever written (or heard of, for that matter) a precis. I'm working on one for my composition class, and they're pretty tricky. If any of you have given them a shot, how did it go?

You take an article or essay and rewrite a replica of it twenty-five percent as long while preserving the core essence/article. Very hard.
